[WIPz] HiRez Armor Textures

Post » Mon Sep 06, 2010 10:05 pm

Description
=========
Pretty much what the title suggests, I think. I'm using the vanilla textures as a base, and adding in new details to make them look more realistic and aesthetically pleasing. Feedback is highly desirable; in particular, I'm wondering if the effect can be too subtle in places.

Now this is some beautiful work!

Finally. Armor that matches all the other high-res stuff

Can't wait to get my hands on this one. :)

Great job I prefer your job to this of Darknut that make the textures ugly >.<.
Thank you!!

Why the pauldrons's texture ont the first pic haven't the same amount of detail than the cuirass?

Looks good, dont see much of a difference with Darknut's hi res...but they do look good...If I might be so bold, some years ago there was a chitin armor that was colored black, I always love that armor but the textures look really low res nowadays, if you cvould manage to do a variant set of chitin with you hi res technique it would be magnificent

You could take darknut's textures and then mess around with the saturation and contrast and then rename each texture what they needed to be. :3

What resolution are you going for, Jiub? <3

It varies, depending on the resolution of the original texture. Roughly speaking, 256x256-->1024x1024, 128x128-->512x512, 64x64-->256x256, and so on.

@Papill6n-- Thanks for that comparison image, do you mind if I add it to the OP? :)

@Cabron-- I started on the chitin tonight (not finished with bonemold yet, but wanted a change of scenery lol), I'll keep your suggestion in mind.

I'm always on the hunt for armor re-texts that look great, but don't make the rest of my game, which isn't MGE'd to hell and back, look like utter crap in comparison. This really hits the spot, looking forward to using it.

I wasn't able to get a darker look that I was satisfied with, but I'll keep tweaking it. I have a sneaking suspicion that this version is too saturated anyway, I'm curious to hear other opinions on it though.

EDIT: A note, the bright areas on the texture are part of the texture itself, not a reflection map. I don't plan on doing anything fancy like that for this project, and since my textures are based on the vanilla, they'll be compatible with AnOldFriend's and Bahamut's anyway. That's good enough for me.

Great work so far. :celebration: I can't wait to see the daedric retextures. The daedric armor in Morrowind has always been my favorite set of armor - even if it does weigh a ton.

Looks pretty damn good. The only (minor) suggestion I'd make is that the black upper arm parts on the pauldrons could also do with improvement.

EDIT: @Helena-- Oh, yeah, don't worry :) All armor textures will be covered, the bonemold screens are WIP so I haven't gotten to those yet.

Started on the Indoril armor, but it's kind of tricky to show in-game because my meshes are reflection-mapped, making it hard to see the actual texture. So here's a NifSkope shot of the helmet.
