Hit boxes?

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 12:12 am

So I remeber that they didn't put them in Oblivion because they didn't want to force players to wear a helmet as some players like to see their face.. But I didn't like seeing people with arrows sticking out of their head walking around.. Also adding hit boxes could let you cripple someones leg with an arrow if you are chasing them.. This could be good for hunting as well.

What are your opinions and views on hit boxes in Skyrim?

(Edit: added poll.)

Edit: I mean hit boxes for diff damage on diff areas. Location based damage like some people have said. I know that oblivion had hit boxes and so did morrowind for that matter.. That's how they did collision detection. Sorry for the confusion, my bad :(

''Lets not force hitboxes because warriors must not wear helmets. They are fairies who care about the fashion''

This is [censored]. Hit boxes SHOULD be in the game. Along with a limb system that lets you injure the enemies. Wtf no helmet wear.....

Smorez thinks hitboxs's would be a great addition to the game, and people who don't like helmets smorez laughs at.

I just want the enemies to respond realistically to locational damage. I remember playing GTA 4 and having a blast shooting random pedestrians in the legs and watching them limp away, or shooting them in the arms and watching them grab their arm and run. It made them feel more alive, and less like random NPCS

Also I was thinking for the amount of hit boxes it should be the same as the different pieces of armor, and I would be so happy if they had the armor like in morrowind!

This would be cool. No VATS to go with it, though, that would svck.

I'd be accepting of them, but ONLY for headshots. Oblivion was already incredibly skewed towards player skill instead of character stats, I don't want that to grow too much more. I'd personally rather see some more driven-by-character stats return (I doubt in full out hit/miss, but in events where, based on your skill level, you will do either a lot more damage or very little damage every once and a while instead of normal damage).

Absolutely yes where is the poll? It would bring better combat and just about everything.

Added poll for you.

To the guy who wanted more character skill. This could be done like in deus ex 1 where it would shake your aim.. With swords this might be harder but still quite possible.

I think a better term is "location based damage".

I think everyone pretty much agrees that we need hit boxes in skyrim. i was so upset whenever i got a headshot with a bow and it did nothing. also they need to fix the marksman system because bows should be like a 5 arrow kill at least instead of 30 they were to weak.

even if they add hit boxes they can still use armor to an advantage which is severely underestimated in TEs. just because you get hit in the leg with an arrow dosent mean ur leg is crippled.armor protects alot.so they should have hit boxes but make sure armor is incorporated into the equation

By law a "candy" option is needed in all polls.

As for hit boxes maybe they could be turned off in the options? Personly I wouldn't like this. But customization is alwase good.

Definitely. The biggest concern with this should not be "character fashion" but as has been said, player skill vs character skill. As has also been said, the solution could be inaccuracy of weapons at low skill, or the chance to do damage or doing less damage on what would normally be a solid hit (like a glancing blow.) Besides, most people are actually pretty good at protecting their face/head. It's vulnerable because it's out in the open, fragile (hollow bone filled with meat rather than meat tube filled with bone) and it has a lot of sensory organs that can get messed up. But usually in order to hit it, first you have to either throw them off guard, or wound them some other place such as the leg to open up their defenses.

I want hit boxes. Some of my characters didn't wear helmets in Oblivion, because I didn't care for the look, or I liked the look of their hair (specifically my orc with golden braids). However 2 of my high level warriors had their helmet hot keyed, and when they entered into combat they slapped their lids on. Cyrodiil's WCB is very strict about that :P Now my characters did that for mostly role play reasons, and to a lesser degree their armor rating. The hopeful implementation of hit boxes in Skyrim would not at all change how I play, my ranger is still just going to wear a hood, and try to duck more. And my vain orc is still going to take his helm on and off, and hopefully not forget too often to put it on when swords are swinging.

I like how 'Candy' gets as much votes as 'No'.

I think adding a hit box system would add to the feel.

Certain parts of body

head
Chest
Abdomen
Limbs

Like if they made it 50 blade skill to accurately hit someone in the abdomen the right way aka stabbing through the lower intestines and thrusting upwards into the ribcage. Things like that would be dice roll accuracy and hit damage and will have different ratios for certain bodie parts.

Torso would be easy to roll accurately but not as much of a damage hit.

Limbs would be hard to hit but when hit they would lose a decent bit of health.

Head would be difficult to hit but when hit you do triple-double damage and a roll to see if you do critical

hell yea we should have hitboxes, and I also think hitting someone with an arrow in fx. the eyeslids of their helmet should ignore the helmets armor

Just something minuscule to note, I'm pretty sure that unless the blow kills someone or knocks them out, you can't have an arrow stuck in their head. That only happens with essential NPCs, which they shouldn't have anyways.

Well technically there are hit boxes in Oblivion.

I understand the Op is referring to hit boxes set up so as to allow locational damage. This is easy to do in terms of implementation. So yeah I'm down for having it.

I actually want dismemberment too. Not over done like it F3, and none of that cartoon sound to accompany it. but if you catch a goblin just right... *kerrchunk!* . and a head is rolling.

Anyway I believe this is an easy, worthwhile feature and is on my list of tes5 feature predictions.

I'm pretty sure I had seen it alot.. Try shooting them in the head when they are asleep.. I could be wrong..

I don't want that, because it means that open helms are weaker then closed helms. I think you have to have seperated armor, ie Morrowind style and then you have individual armor ratings for the various hit boxes. So wearing a helm is 'x' armor rating for the entire head. To continue with that, repeated strikes to an opponents left shoulder will damage his left pauldron, and once the armor breaks he'll be taking direct damage to his health, regardless if the rest of his armor is holding strong.

I agree completely! Also need armor and damage types to go with it.. Aka arrow should go threw chainmail easily.
