XP hit indicators?

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 9:18 am

Seriously, does the game really need that? Is it going to have kill streaks like the other [censored] games? Really, remove all the superfluous crap. The less it reminds me of the COD series, amongst other games, the better!!

There are no killstreaks.

You get way more XP for helping your team and completing objectives than by killing other people. This is to encourage teamwork.

Think of it as a hit indicator . In the end it will only help you because the higher xp you get , the more damage your shot did to the enemy ;)

I really don't mind this feature at all. It feels nice to be rewarded after doing something positive for your team. Maybe there will be an option to turn it off? Who knows?

I dont mind it. I think of it as an extension to Assist kills. So I know thats the enemy I shot and I can see that I'm getting something for shooting him in real-time.
Where in older games (before Assist kills) you could shoot an enemy to an inch of their life and a stray bullet (Or not so stray) could steal your kill, no recognition to you at all.

True, but even without the hit indicators, I couldn't care less about getting killstealed in a TEAMgame, as long as they don't do it on purpose over and over again.

But you would still need Assist kills. Without them KSing would be a problem, especially in a team game where more than one person is shooting at the same enemy.

I like assist, but it's not required imho. Whoever does the final shot gets the kill, but it's all about the objective. Like I said: I couldn't care less that they killsteal me when I'm defending the HE charge.

Getting killstealed in a game like COD is way "worse" because it reduces your score and KDR, while these two factors are not important in Brink to be good.

True but I guess I'm just too used to Assist Kills now. It just removes the worry of gettin KSed since I play games like COD, B:BC and halo.
Even if getting KSed won't really affect you (Other than losing like 20 exp) since Brink isn't about Kills, I still need Assists.

I think I've read or heard that almost every display-feature of that kind (also the supply-indicators for medics and soldiers) can be disabled.

Ive never been someone who cares about people stealing my kills in any game, but i find it really awkward when someone complains about it. Because then i feel like i cant help them out, which often results in them dying several times in the match that they wouldn't have otherwise.

I don't mind it, as long as it's an option to turn off or if you're able to set the opacity. Player side cfg's to the rescue.

I think stuff like that will rather be server side cfg ? The opacity and possibly color might be client side.

This is what I was thinking as well. At least it SHOULD be an option and not an absolute.

I'd just call it an over informative hit maker.

I like it when people watch my back. I mean what's the point of being on a "team" in a game except that it evens the odds out that not EVERYONE is gunning for you if you're not gonna work together? That's the way people treat it. In battlefield you kind of get the illusion that teamwork is happening... but really everyone's scrambling to capture the next objective so they can get those points. They should patch conquest and give you points for HOLDING a base. But you make more points if you run off and let the enemy take it come back and try to kill him (points to kill them) and take it back (points to get it back). You get points sometimes when you manage to kill guys IN the base but it's minimal. I can't count how many times I've seen someone run off so they can exploit taking back a base for more points. I hope there's not crap like that in brink that makes people run off and let you get killed when you're trying to defend an objective because if they come back and ambush the one or two guys that killed you off they will get more XP.

I like this feature. When i first saw it, it looked really cool to me, and the fact that you could see every point you get, and watch it add up is very RPG-ish, with is cool

Still too CODish for me. I don't know how that makes ppl feel like they are doing anything for their team, you should know if you are hitting them or not. While I'm not expecting a huge amount of realism, i think it brings it that much closer to arcadish.

I'm not getting on these forums anymore tonight. I read more about effin call of duty then BRINK on the BRINK boards. Everything is too call of dutyish. Not CODish enough. It needs theatre mode. It needs kill cam. Give it kill streaks. NO DONT LET YOUR GUY RUN PEOPLE RUN IN COD!!! It needs a chopper gunner. Where are the attack dogs? I'm only going to play the game on the PC but I don't want the people on the xbox to even have a smidge of aim assist even though it's not going to effect me at all except for on thanksgiving when I play at my cousin's house. The guns are too accurate. They need to shake all over the place when I shoot like an old man with cerebral palsy trying to pee during an earth quake. The mini gun shouldn't really be a mini gun it should just be a glorified SMG so I don't pee myself when I see a heavy carrying one while I'm playing as a light. Whenever I don't understand something I call it arcadish. This complicated math problem is really arcadish and gaudy and I don't like it. It's not simple and streamlined like call of duty.

Write paul wedgwood a letter if you don't like it. But he's too busy making a game that's gonna make call of duty Blops look like rogue warrior. I don't care how many "units" it sold.

Honestly I HOPE that they add the xp coming off every hit... It reminds me of Borderlands, and its such a great system. lets u know where your xp is coming from. and when those sniping campers on the back of the map finally get a kill and they get a measly 10xp pop up its gunna make them move
