Hitboxes

Post » Wed Dec 14, 2011 12:41 pm

Id like to see damage differences to head/body/leg and arm shots introduced to skyrim. I play as an archer and i find it pretty stupid to be able to kill someone just by hitting them in the foot with an arrow. Just 3 different categories would be good. Different damage for head, upper body and arm/leg hit. Anyone else want this feature?

EDIT: Ok, didnt mean hitbox, meant damage differences..

Yes, though as an archer also I'd settle for just head shots.

Hitboxes are already in the game. :P

Hitting them in the foot with an arrow? I have completely missed by a foot and it still registers as a hit. I would like to see critical hits for headshots, slowed movement for hits to the leg, and chance for disarm for shots to the weapon or hand. Bethesda did it in Fallout, dunno why they didn't bother for Skyrim, probably adds too much additional work.

yeah... totally killed somebody with an arrow to the hand. That said, it wasn't that big a deal. I just figured that my bow of horribleness caused him to go into shock, which shut down more than it ought to, and he died.

I'd rather see Bethesda fix their menu and user friendly interface as their top priority in all their games.

For some people it's so boring they have to pretend, well let's pretend that the game had content to support what role players were pretending...

Yes would like to see that, I see no difference between an ankle shoot, or head shoot.

Seems you indeed got the wrong concept in your mind, OP. There are hitboxes, or else NOTHING would hit. Swords, magic, arrows and soforth. You are talking about Locational Damage, which details what body part is more vulnerable. Skyrim doesn't has that indeed but see it as an advantage, if you wear full armour and no helmet and the NPC hit your head, it still would be distributed through your overall armour rating and level up your armour skill. ;]

It depends really. I don't want it to be INSTA KILLTM but maybe a x2 for head and 1,5 for body and 1x for limbs would work.
But they would have to have locational damage in melee too. But then again they would have to give more freedom for blocking, so you can keep it up to protect your head or whatever.
And parrying with off-hand weapon for dual wield.
I always go for the head or torso anyway for RP reasons.

What do you mean by hitboxes, I don't want to see hitboxes, the shooting system is fine in this game, you shoot an arrow past sombodies ear and it misses like it should, with hitboxes then you could hit an arrow anywhere near an enemies body and it would still hit, really dumb.

You are confusing things. Hitboxes are EVIDENT in the game, it depends on the devs how large the hitboxes will be. Some games allow you to shoot close as possible near someone's hand and still hit nothing and others are more generous and allow the air beside the NPC's head to be a viable target.

I wouldn't know for sure though, I am a Mage and I only pay attention to setting the torso of NPC's ablaze.

Their needs to be locational damage, the lack of it is just absolutely ridiculous. 1x for a shot in the torso, 2x for a shot in the heart and throat, 3x for a shot in the head, .5x for a shot in the leg/arm, but a chance to slow movement (leg) or disarm an opponent (arm).

Also, they also need to reduce the hitboxes themselves. You can miss the opponent, but the game will still give you a hit. This needs to be removed so that you need to actually hit the opponent for a hit to register.
