Hjerim vs. Proudspire Manor

Post » Mon May 12, 2014 3:49 am

Granted I mod all the houses to make them more appealing to me personally, but even after that I still prefer Hjerim just like I did in vanilla. Proudspire is just too... cold. I guess it's all the marble. Hjerim just feels far more warm and comfy inside. Plus, Proudspire's layout is so cramped and annoying, it has a lot of floor space I guess but divided up between the three levels it's just a PITA to move around in, and that's even after I've expanded the interiors a wee bit to make it somewhat less confining; there's just no getting around the fact that 2/3 of what you want and need is one or two staircases away all the time. Even the vanilla Hjerim felt more spacious than my modded Proudspire. And IMO it is WAY overpriced in terms of actual value, must be that old real estate thing of "location location location" because it happens to be in Solitude and that city's been the capital for so long.

And like some people before me, I prefer Windhelm as a city. But, I also prefer the snowy mountainous parts of Skyrim to the more temperate regions, so that probably part of the reason.

He rim you can get to quite easy from the main gate (normal fast travel point for Windhelm). Proudspire Manor is not so close to Solitude main gate but is near to the front of the Blue Palace.

Edit: I've just been to Hjerim. It is easier to fast travel there from the Palace of Kings rather than the main gate

Hjerim. While it's rather dark and gloomy compared to Proudspire, I find Proudspire too claustrophobic in comparison.

It depends. Did you adopt kids? If so then I would go with Proudspire as theres kids for your kids to play with. Otherwise Id go Hjierm. Definately the best vanilla house IMO.

Nope. Not that I know of. Hjerim definitely had some issues though.

Aw, it would have been more appropriate if you had said that secret alchemy room was to die for.

For me, neither of them are quite comfortable for my taste. Hjerim seems too dark and gloomy and Proudspire is...well, I don't know. It just feels boring? Feels too much like a castle? I don't know what my deal is with Proudspire but I just don't like it. Probably my least visited home out of the houses I have experience with.

Hjerim feels perfect for Skyrim. The weather outside is frightful but inside it's so delightful.

Living in Proudspire Manor felt like my character had hung up his war hammer and retired. It might work for a damned faithless Imperial, but certainly not appropriate for a true Nord.

As much as I like the look of Proudspire, I like Hjerim better. Better armory display, secret room for alchemy and enchanting, and very open. Proudspire has an unworkable cooking pot, unfinished housecarl quarter, and very cramped, though I do like there are three doorways to the place.

Proudspire. It's large and nicely decorated. As the Dragonborn who has taken out Alduin and made Skyrim safe for the Empire, I deserve to live in luxury.
