Hjerim vs. Proudspire Manor

Post » Mon May 12, 2014 4:26 am

Just a fun poll between the two houses I'm considering.

I know I will buy them both and decide then, but I'm curious which house others prefer. I haven't had Proudspire on any game save, but I love Solitude and would really would enjoy holing up there.

Hjerim really surprised me; I thought it would be gloomy and dark, but after I furnished it, it looks quite warm and nice. Only dislike the lack of chests and strongboxes.

So, what do you think?

I like them both, but Hjerim's top floor armory can not be beat :)

You should try Proudspire once, I just dislike the layout of Proudspire Manor and prefer Hjerim.

Proudspire. Because you don't have to get involved in the Civil War to be able to buy it.

But isn't that bugged all to pieces still? I lost a lot of artifacts in that armory.

I prefer Hjerim. It's more 'homey'. Lots of storage, and more mannequins. And it has all the merchants, Smith, and enchanting table in one spot.

Hjerim every time. Better house, more mannequins, more storage, vendors are in one convenient spot. And proudspire's tileset reminds me of Anvil, and I hated Anvil's tileset.

plus I feel like if you're living in complete opulence (ala Proudspire) you're playing the game wrong. But it's up to you.

I feel like this one of them masked Imperial vs. Stormcloak threads.

Not that you meant it to be like that, but i think CW allegiance will probably determine the votes.

Hjerim. for some reason Solitude as a city doesn't appeal to me at all. but I like Windhelm.

Plus the lay out of Hjerim is great. My stormcloak characters always decorate the upstairs with great Nordic stuff like weapons and armor with stormcloak stuff as well. I just really like the lay out.

As far as ease to get however, Proudspire for sure. But I voted Hjerim.

This is an excellent point  Gotta be involved in the CW for Hjerim.

I don' recall ever losing anything in Hjerim's Armory, but that doesn't mean I haven;t  It has been a long, long time since I took part in the CW

Not for me, really. Solitude just never struck me as a place I wanted to settle down in. There is a mod for Proudspire that makes it even better than Hjerim, though

Hjerim is my favorite of the two houses. Too bad you have to go through so many quests to get it. Last time I lived there it wasn't bugged for me.

I like Hjerim better. A lot of the rooms in Proudspire feel too small, while Hjerim is more open.

I usually buy Proudspire just for Jordis

I'm not incredibly keen on either, but given ghosts are an actual thing in Tamriel, I don't generally fancy the idea of living in a house used by a murderous, impicitly incistuous (or wanted to be) necromancer... Proudspire's nice, although it wouldn't suit most of my characters (but was awesome for my vampiress who married Anwen - close to Castle Volkihar, extremely respectable, and not too far from my real base of operations, Winstad Manor.)

Hjerim for the house itself, but Proudspire because of the location. Solitude is a much more vibrant place than Windhelm. And the NPC's are a lot more interesting, IMO. And not as mean.

I usually go with Breezehome or Lakeview Manor because they're kind of inbetween. Vibrant, beautiful outside, and the cozy inside. (But I guess that's off-topic)

Proudspire Manor is the perfect location to house your family.

Edit: just to add.. You can fast travel there via the Blue Palace rather than the Solitude main gate.

Proudspire, I prefer the layout of the house and I prefer Solitude. Feels better to raise a family in and never liked Windhelm that much.

Same with Hjerim. Palace of the Kings has a fast travel marker also.
