[REL] Hold it

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 11:34 am

I think the only way to do that would be to completely reset the NPC. You'd have to kill and resurrect them...not very feasible really.
Wouldn't the magic http://lovkullen.net/Emma/What_is%20the_72_hours_bug.htm reset switch help here, or have I misunderstood?

And I pick Tengwar!

Yes, it seems to. If you leave a cell (e.g. Seyda Neen) for at least 72 hours & return, NPCs then appear to recalc their Hold It items... so for example, one of the Seyda NPCs went from holding a sack (I think it was) to holding a pipe, after I'd gone to Balmora & then went back. So, they do seem to reset themselves left to their own devices. Which is pretty cool. ^_^

Right now, npcs have a chance to get 2 items actually: a 'shield' item and a 'lantern' one so even if the 72h bug doesn't help, each npc has a slight chance of changing the items it holds at night :) That and using leveled lists was the best I could do to add to the randomness.

Glad the idea of a trademark colour has caught on, just one tiny problem: pink is not my favourite colour. Oh well, being girly has never killed a girl I suppose.
I guess I should get used to it: there.

Thank you for this mod, great idea :)

It would indeed be cool if you did something for the Children of Morrowind as well

Actually they already do, when given a teddy bear they force equip it.
That being said I could make lollipop and guar toys :)

There are already carryable teddybears and lollipops, some of the small chldren carry them already. (All redguard small kids are carrying a teddybear, because the lovely little voice-actress happened to say "Do you like my teddybear" in one of her voice lines :))
The guar toys or the other toys in the mod aren't currently equippable, though.
And maybe some of the teenagers are participating in the housework and would for instance carry a broom (they'd hate it of course ;)).

I'll definitively make a COM addon. Between those who already have a teddy bear, a toy weapon or a MTC card, the hold it - COM addon should be just right.

I've been thinknig of the items the kids could have...
- Toys already in COM
- I like the idea of teenagers doing their share, but it would mean that they get stuck with a broom forever (during daytime at least). So I'd either not give any working tools to kids, or, give them a new greeting like "My Mum says I should help but I just want to play with my friends!" or something to that effect.
- toy figurines
- kids could carry crayons maybe, but I don't remember seeing any models for those.
- ??? anything else comes to mind?

Sounds decent so far, though I would pass on the idea of crayons anyways as it would feel out of place to me personally. Perhaps some of the younger ones with treats and such would be good, too. I could even see some of the kids carrying books as well, like the fairy tales and nursery rhymes.

Just my two cents on this one, keep up the great work, but I need to get to work on me mod here more so I can run my full reinstall and see about getting my perfect mod balance (that this mod has certainly made itself a part of).

Ah yes, the fairy tales! Added to the list. Maybe they'd be even better with a disctinctive cover.

Also, getting the perfect mod balance is WIP of mine as well ;)

Yup. And it gets better with each new update.

A suggestion for Emma's kids: they could hold candies or fruits (i.e. the oranges and apples models from NOM)...

Fruits are a great idea, kids could have them but cooks and some commoners as well. Added to the list :)

So for the next update I have already made: a key, a folded shirt, shears and I'll be making: fruits, prongs, toys/treats from COM, toy figurines for the kids, butcher's cleaver.

Some of the older kids from CoM are apprentices/students - they could be holding books or scrolls (of the more serious variety I mean, not the fairy tales). And some of the older kids that are helping their parents run shops and stuff could have brooms. I always thought some of those kids looked rather resentful, like they'd rather be outside playing :)

Absolutely.
Unlike vanilla npcs and in the other addons, I won't be using leveled lists to give items to the kids, I wouldn't want to find a teenager in a mage guild holding tight his teddy bear! So about have of the kids who don't already have sthg will be given 1 items depending on their age and location.

This is great. Gives more life to the NPCs, and helps to fool my friends into thinking MW AI is better than what it is! lol!

I love this! It really helps bring the world to life. I may use some of these for the tower servants in UL if that's alright (with proper attributions of course). :)

I'm glad you enjoy this mod, it was my very 1st release (back in May!) so it has a special place in my heart :)

You might want to check http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=7749 as our 2 mods compliments each others nicely. In fact, her NPC benefit even more from HOLD IT as they have a chance to get a different item every time they spawn.

Fantastic mod, though too many folks from Starfire's mod seem to be carrying around muck showels, hehe :) but really, I love it.

At long last an update!!!

A new addon for this mod: this time it's the Children of Morrowind that get the Hold it! treatment :)

New items have been created, some based on meshes included in COM: nix hound toy, candy, fairy tales books, apple, cookie, azura doll.

Cool, I always use COM for the believability factor it adds to Morrowind. And this will help even more :)

Great, I love this mod! :)

Now I have vanilla NPCs walking around with stuff, children walking around with stuff, and Starfire's NPCs walking/sneaking/teleporting around with stuff. Awesome!

For some reason I had never installed this. (maybe because I don't use NOM, MCA, COM, or Starfire's NPCs,)
But now I do have the basic Hold It installed, and was thrilled to see some people carrying objects around.
This is great, thanks!

I love this. :) More toys to spoil the children from the Morrowind family mod. They already have all the teddy bears that came with COM.
