[REL] Hold it

Hold it
By Danae

What the mod does:

It adds some shields and lanterns that look like common household items to a trader in Tel Arhun.
It also gives some of these items to NPCs via leveled lists if you choose to use the replacer (which really should be called an 'adder'...)
So practically, this means you will see commoners holding a broom, alchemists holding a mortar, mages with a staff (that shows), etc.

The options you have:

Hold it resources.esp : the items are available for sale at the Tel Arhun trader. They will not be found on any vanilla npc.
OR
Hold it replacer.esp : the items are available for sale at the Tel Arhun trader AND a number of random npcs will have these items equipped
Additionally you may use any of the following:
Hold it ? SF npc addon : OPTIONAL randomly gives items to the npc added by Starfire's mod Starfire's NPC addition. Do not use if you don't have Starfire's mod activated.
Hold it ? MCA addon : OPTIONAL randomly give items to npcs added by Morrowind comes Alive by Neoptolemus. Requires MCA.esm to run. I have not given any items to the more problematic npcs, namely the courtesans, the hostile npcs and the drunkards indoors for those who have MCA patches that remove them
Hold it ? NOM addon : OPTIONAL randomly gives items to NOM npcs. Requires Necessities of Morrowind .

NEW Hold it ? COM addon
: OPTIONAL randomly gives items to COM children. Requires Children of Morrowind .

More details:

The replacer(s) give some 'hold it' items to npcs, you may also aquire some of these items and give them to companions / employees. Bear in mind that
npcs will display the 'lantern' items only in some dark surroundings or outside during nighttime. The shields items will always be displayed unless the npc has a better defense without shield or with one he already possesses.
'Lantern' items:
basket, Daedric banner, ash statue, fish, bucket, small chest, piece of folded cloth, drum, flower, shiny globe, some gold coins, , hourglass, incense burner, iron pan, kettle, loot bag, piece of scrap metal, mortar, parchment, pie, pitcher, platter, quill, skull, wooden staff, Daedric staff, glass staff, tankard, bath towel.
'Shield' items:
fish, bone, bottle, loaf of bread, broom, bath salts, piece of folded cloth, coda flower, fishing rod, flask, blue flower, yellow flower, book, hammer, coat hanger, hourglass, iron pan, kettle, lute, piece of scrap metal, parchment, pitcher, potion, quill, rolling pin, sack, scroll, much shovel, soap, soul gem, wooden staff, Daedric staff, glass staff, cookie, apple, nix hound toy, Azura doll, candie, 4 fairy tales books.

The pinks cool :) should keep it as your trademark so to speak. Just wanted to say that I love this mod and it is one that I would never play without. It works flawlessly and really adds so much life to the npc's. Thank you so much for this and I am flattered that you took the time to make an addon for my mod. :goodjob:

I really HAD to make an addon for your mod since I can't play without it either ;)
Thanks a lot for your support!

EDIT (in pink, it's a trademark of sorts ;)):
Starfire has discovered that her fishermen were given the script of the 'wild commoners' by mistake.
I have followed her advice and replaced the scripts of the fishermen so that they won't be aggressive ever. So if you were among the 1st 10 people to dl the new version, you might want to dl again (unless you have no qualms killing the occasional aggressive, albeit suicidal, misguided fishermen  )

Thanks Danae, re-downloading!

I'll be using the fix for the fishermen in your fabulous mod as a sort of interim patch for Starfire's NPCA. All around win/win!

Wow, this really adds a lot to the game. In fact, now it seems bizarre that no one was holding anything before. *chuckle*

Thank you all for your comments :)

There's a few more items I'd like to add: a key, prongs, folded shirt, butcher's) cleaver... If you come across something while playing you think could make a nice addition, please let me know!

Not an actual type of addition but another mod patch could be COM addition where children would hold their stuffed animals and so.

Actually they already do, when given a teddy bear they force equip it.
That being said I could make lollipop and guar toys :)

Wonderfully imaginative & inventive mod, thanks for this! :foodndrink:

(You might need to mention in the readme that you need to merge objects if you're using a head replacer - such as Beryl's - though, since otherwise the changes made by this mod cancel out the other, meaning NPCs revert back to their original appearance ... merging the two with TESTool works perfectly though.)

I didn't notice the heads switched back to the original ones but my latest install of MW doesn't have a head replacer so I could have easily missed this.
I thought that if the head replacer is an esm or that if it's an esp loaded after 'hold it' you should get the head you wanted. Could anyone confirm (or not this?) I'd be annoyed if merged objects is the only way to go as I know not everyone uses this option.

Thanks you everyone for your comments :)

Have you considered adding these to leveled lists to somewhat randomize what people will be holding? You can easily categorize them so that people don't end up with what they shouldn't (Fargoth with a Daedric staff, or Divayth Fyr holding a muck shovel.) I think that would be a fantastic addition to a fantastic mod!

Yes, that's what I've done with this version (1.4) , each class has a chance to get an item from the relevant list.

If there was a way to randomize the items npcs recieve when re-entering a cell or simply after some time has passed, that would be awesome. Is that possible at all?

:banghead: Should have read it closer...and in the same day that I post. :goodjob:

I think the only way to do that would be to completely reset the NPC. You'd have to kill and resurrect them...not very feasible really.

Well then, npcs will have to be happy with the item they recieve on day 1! At least Starfire's npcs get to change theirs every time they spawn :)
