Holidays would be really nice, it would really add to the atmosphere and believability of the world imo.

That would be an amazing add to the game that they missed out on in the last game

It could be even faction celebrations only, like dark brotherhood celebrating dark mother birth or thieves guild celebrating something like november 5 :D

Absolutely. It would make great strides in making the world feel more alive. Like the people in it have a purpose other than being there to cater to the PC. Hope this idea makes it into the next installment.

I think minigames might be overdoing it, but yes I would very much enjoy having holidays to some degree. I think having NPCs occasionally comment on upcoming holidays might add more realism to the game. Oblivion made me feel bad for the NPCs, doing the same thing day after day... many of them never even left their houses. They must be so depressed!

Off course, it makes the lore come to life.

There should be a lot's of 'special' days, but most of them should be subtle events like NPC's dressing up for the occasion, special dialog options, discounts, etc...
Big festivals would be awesome, but if the engine can't handle NPC's building stalls and decorating the town it would be silly if a town suddenly transforms out of nowhere (and knowing Bethesda, you getting stuck in a materializing table or something :D)

Holidays should be in a separate section in your diary and you should be notified a few days prior to the event to minimize the chance you accidentally miss any, especially if they are quest-related.

That is only if The Elder Scrolls V is a direct sequel to The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.

So in Elder Scrolls V they are just going to erase all of the events that happened in Oblivion if it isn't a "direct" sequel?

You know people do celebrate big events annually that happened hundreds of years ago.

Unless its the Netherlands, here we do not even celibrate the day we became independent.

But yes, celibrations should be included. And much thought should be put into it. I dont want to see simple copies of the most reknown existing holidays. Subtle references are fine, but nothing as major such as christmas lights in trees, someone that looks like santa or something like that. This is not world of warcraft after all, but a game with actual depth.

No, I didn't say that. It's just if it isn't a direct sequel I didn't think there could be a celebrate Martin Septim day, in reply to an earlier comment.

Oddly enough, there are some "Holiday" voice files in Oblivion. Just gonna toss that out there.

Maybe it was just too hard to do and they ditched the idea?

But since the empire fell they might not celebrate the last great act from the now defunct Septim line. I could see this in the next game though, a group of people based around the old Septim dynasty that want to continue it somehow.

Well this poll has quite a vast majority for Holidays and Celebrations.
I hope the devs take a look at this thread for ideas for the next TES

This gives me the idea of adding an full-fledged economic system into ESV because you know that holidays are most often set for economic reasons and also because many religious holidays have been formed into economical purposes. The whole idea of the economic system could also imply some knew aspects to the game play.

I voted "No" since I hate the way World of Warcraft got ingame events during some parts of the year. Sure the idea is nice but whenever a game tells me when to play I just stop playing it. (As I did with Wow)

However, if the events in Tes V would be linked to the ingame timespan then maybe.. Sounds like a sweet idea, but overall I think I rather have my Tes V without timely occurences every now and then.

Yeah, this'd be very innovative for the series. Th closest thing to it is Bloodmoon I think. Not sure if that would be considered a holiday but it's at least for Hircine.

Absolutely. That is why I love the mod "The Holiday Mod". It gives you a birthday, your companions a birthday, holidays, festivals in the streets with new and exciting victuals and gifts. There are even globals and sale days. It was genius, that mod. There are also fireworks that you can purchase that look like ancient Chinese fireworks that you can set off and watch them explode in the sky. I always buy the fireworks, and once used them when the Main Quest was finished to light up the Red Mountain night with fireworks.

Lately we’ve been more lenient about TES V topics here but they have unfortunately begun to overrun this forum so we will be cracking down on them again.

  • If you want to discuss features that you would like to see in an upcoming Elder Scrolls game, or expect to see, please use the http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1147719-tes-v-ideas-and-suggestions-188/

  • Speculation on when or if such a game will be announced belongs in the http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1147858-official-tes-v-speculation-thread-89/.

  • Finally any discussion of future Elder Scrolls games that involve multiplayer of any sort belongs in the http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1119156-official-tes-multiplayer-thread/.
