Holy Crap Guess What I Found

Post » Fri Nov 18, 2011 9:35 am

So I was at my parents' house clearing out old games for the goodwill, and I stumbled across a little gem. I was literally thinking earlier today about how I wish I had gotten a chance to play Morrowind. Everybody always talks so highly of it. So after Skyrim I was going to see if I could scrounge up a copy from somewhere at a reasonable price.

Well as I am going through my games...BAM! Morrowind, GOTY Edition with Tribunal and Bloodmoon. I was like WTFBBQSAUCE??? I never even bought this game....I don't know how it got there, but I sure as hell took it back to my place. So after I am done with Skyrim, I got a new obsession.

Cool story?

Skyrim may have the intense graphics and visually/aurally interactive NPCs, but Morrowind is the KING of RPGs. Prepare yourself, n'wah. :toughninja:

Being able to play Morrowind from scratch? I think you might be right.

Lol thanks guys. So I have a ton of TES to play....

Do you think it would be wise to start a save on Morrowind before I am done with Skyrim?

I probably have at least another 100 hours to go in Skyrim....

Impoosible, that you imply you've already played it for 500 hours. :P

It would be good to start Morrowind before you are done with Skyrim; considering Morrowind's story takes place before Skyrim. The gameplay and graphics are different than Skyrim too,

Jup, first play morrowind. Otherwise you won't understand the story.

This isn't actually true; Though Morrowind is a great start to the series it isn't required at all to get into Skyrim.

True. Every ES game is its own stand alone experience with just hints of references to the older ones

Morrowind first. Trust me on this, it was so hard to do combat in morrowind after coming back from Oblivion, I can't imagine combat after coming back from Skyrim. However, this means postponing Skyrim playing and discussion by about a month minimum.

I'd go with Morrowind first too. Went back to it recently and while I still love it, the swing-and-miss combat can be utterly infuriating for the first ten levels. Persevere though, and it's the deepest, most lovingly crafted, most interactive RPG of a generation.

It's also really, really funny. "Do you like pillows?"

Yeah i think you're both right.
I guess what i meant was that if you know the story of the Nerevarine you could enjoy Skyrim alot more, otherwise how could you know why Morrowind was destroyed?
(I heard some books in Skyrim refer to the destruction of Morrowind)

Yes, Vivec lost his powers and the meteor struck Morrowind, but why did Vivec lose his powers? The Nerevarine destroyed his source of power? Why? Who is Dagoth Ur? And so forth. You can always read this all in the Imperial Library, but the best way to know the story is to play it yourself, i think.

At least by playing you know the first part.

Christ I can't wait to start this....

But now I have to ask, Morrowind or Oblivion first? I have both, haven't played either.

I assume Morrowind...

Doesn't really matter.
You'll probably breeze through Oblivion pretty fast (it will still take a loooong time to see everything) but the Main Quest and a few Guilds will let you see most of what the game has to offer.
If you have GOTY, the Shivering Isles is really unique and fun.

Morrowind will take longer to get into, and longer to see everything. There's more content, more struggle at lower levels, and it also has two great expansions that can't be successfully done until you're at least level 20.... because the enemies will destroy you.
