'Home Plate' Workbench

Post » Thu Mar 17, 2016 8:52 pm

I love this little niche we can call home - in the madness of the wasteland, I like carving out spaces and making them feel hospitable. But Home Plate's limited workbench makes that much harder. There are two main complaints I have with it:

I get that it doesn't make sense to build prefabricated houses or anything, but for goodness' sake why can't we access floors or walls? I think the Home Plate residence should have a normal, unrestricted workbench, because the things that don't fit in the space we have to build would only show up in red anyway. And I would rather have my creativity stifled by lack of space than by some designer who was like, "eh, nobody is gonna need partitions in here. Or flooring. We'll give them more power than they could ever want, but just in case they want to go light-box crazy, the won't actually be able to string up more than this arbitrary number"

I also understand that it's kind of a waste to assign someone on a supply line to this location, but to also cut me off from my materials (and make it difficult to export any materials I've scrapped inside the house) is a little ridiculous - maybe when it's first purchased, assign an automatic supply line between there and either a settlement of the player's choosing or Sanctuary? Because I had to fast travel to and from that location 3 times in order to export all the building materials once I was done designing it ('done' being a relative term, I was sick of travelling back and forth with an inventory full of cloth and steel just to keep building)

Just wondering what y'all think... I personally feel like I wasted 2k caps

It should stay limited, but there should also be more options. It is a small space after all.

And I believe you should be able to have supply lines reach Home Plate, because why not?

I'll agree about the supply line, I haven't spent enough time there to have an opinion about what I can/can't build.

I'd also like to have the option to send my companions there, so I can host a party in Diamond City. :foodndrink: :foodndrink: :foodndrink: How's that sound?

Sounds great! There's already a doghouse on the roof in case you feel like chilling with Dogmeat, but he has to actively be your companion to go there with you, which is sad. Would be nice to have it function more like a little home than a deserted warehouse.

In all reality it's the best place to live as it's location is so centralized. Especially if you aren't using fast travel. The fact that if you do end up storing any junk there that it won't get shared out means that you either can't utilize it as a good stopping point for dropping off junk or that you will use it but end up having to lug the junk to another workbench at a later time.

I'd like to see the restrictions lifted so we could make walls. It would also be really nice to be able to do something with that empty metal room on the roof of Home plate. :)

The Homeplate Workbench only works inside Homeplate. That empty metal room on the roof is outside.

If your on PC there's a mod on nexus called Home Plate Full Workbench.

I haven't tried it myself as I'm not doing much settlement building in this play through

I'm fine with it the way it is. I have 28 other settlements to build whatever I like. Also, I'd rather not have cows in my townhouse.

I wouldn't mind a few more options for building inside, but I think that the benefits outweigh the detriments.

My ONLY real complaint is that I can't scrap that ridiculous bathtub on the roof. If they would expand the build area to the top level, but keep all else the same, I'd be very happy.

Can you build workbenches like the power armour rack in Home Plate? If so I might use it as my power armor/robot workbench spot.

I just take the keys out of the ignition before I head inside. Why build one, when there's a free one outside?

Nice. If I can build the new robot workbench then the bottom floor is getting turned into my new workshop for workbenches, power armours and robots.

It would be nice to be able to, at the very least, build walls and floors. How the heck are you going to make a private bathroom, anyway??

EDIT: I also would like to be able to send companions there. Would be a nice spot for any of your "lovers", or a place for certain characters to lie low while things blow over.

Agreed. I would love to set up Homeplate for everyday use. I keep returning to Sanctuary only to see Mama Murphy standing on my bed staring at the wall (wtf?). The only reason I have done nothing to it is because I prefer to have all of my assets cashed in one location and have no desire to continually truck them the which ever settlement I feel like building.

I bought Home Plate on my first playthrough and never used it. Now I don't bother, I use Hangman's Alley as my central spot.

I bought the Home Plate two days ago for the first time and I'm not really sure what to do with it. I'd have liked the ability to buy themes from a DC merchant like the houses in FO3 and then add to that with Workshop decorations.

I know. Though it would be nice if they could extend it to include the roof.

Just build a second tub next to it, then you and Piper can pretend you're in a Cialis commercial together.

the power armor station can store items. especially water. diamond city and goodneighbor have those conveniently near shops.

the workbench is much a waste of caps. since there are weapon and armor benches cooking and chem stations in the diamond city.

The only upside is settlers in diamond city quit saying "if you aren't living here you are nobody"
