If you win enough at casinos, they will give you a suite.

Well I know for a fact Mr. House offers those on his side a Penthouse, so I would also assume NCR and Caesars Legion some sort of housing as well.

afaik ALL the factions offer you a house. Whether you get to keep it or not depends on whether you stay on a factions good side or not (ie it's not forever like your Megaton house was)

the lucky 38 has a house you can get and supposedly there is a house on the strip itself you can buy/get somehow.

In all likelihood there's going to be some kind of permanent player housing.

Casino housing may or may not be permanent. I think it will be. Previews in the past hinted at this by describing the 'free suites' as major rewards for losing a lot of caps at the tables. This also strikes me as one way to encourage people to play the mini games. If there's no major benefit to the mini-games aside from (a very unlikely) jackpot win, why bother?

So basically if you decide to not side with anyone, then you cannot get a house?

There must be some other place for stash your items if you want to play through and kill everyone.

I wonder what happens to stored gear if you lose housing. Maybe you can't get it back unless you become good friends with that faction again. What if you stashed a quest item there.

Well, one of the things Beth does is make it so you can't drop or stash quest items - you must always carry them around, and they never burden you. It's pretty dumb from a 'WTF? I just got captured and they left me with all this gear just because I told them it's important for a quest!?' perspective, but it does nicely avoid situations like what you describe there. It's unknown if New Vegas will make use of that feature or not, though.

Having just started playing, I found a couple of beds I could sleep in in Goodsprings.

One is in a brown house located south of the saloon, not far from a wrecked travel trailer and pickup truck. The house has a couple of beds, a refrigerator and other storage containers. Haven't tried any containers out yet to see if they're safe. Easy Pete went into the house to sleep on one of the beds, but he didn't seem to mind my using the other one. No well rested bonus for sleeping there, so it isn't my bed.

Also, there's mattress you can sleep on in the gas station where you meet Ringo. There are also a few containers in here.

I'll bet I can get a house of my own by helping the town beat the Powder Gangers, similar to getting the Megaton house by defusing the bomb in FO3. Will try later on tonight.

If I remember rightly, you could not 'drop' quest items in F3, they were bloqued in your inventory, and in some cases stayed even after having finished the quest...

What I'm wondering is if you pop your stuff in a container that respawns every now and again, you might lose it.

Oh well, I guess that I'll have to wait until FNV comes out in Europe !

Well, that kind of svcks.

OTOH, as long as I can find a few safe containers to stash stuff, the well rested bonus for sleeping in your bed really isn't that big a deal. It just means you don't get an XP boost, and I thought you leveled up too quick in FO3 anyway.

I have not played yet but if I done a load of jobs for someone and they did not reward me in some way, I would, I would, burn the building down. . .

Saw on a stream that if you do the right stuff in Novac you get permanent residence in a Motel.

Yep,
Spoiler
once your reputation in Novac is high enough, all you have to do is ask the lady in the front desk building for a room, and she will say something like "I couldn't charge you for everything you've done for the town!". You then get a key to the room :)
