Honest Hearts...yeah...what the...

Post » Mon Dec 05, 2011 3:51 pm

K...Friends are wiped out...gotcha...people shoot me, I shoot back....I'm following the target on my map that says "find zion map"...Kill lots of critters and natives. One critter "Giant Green Gecko" was hard. Stumble upon more natives attacking me, stumble upon a guy named Daniel who is atacking and kill him. Find the map, the next step says get to Mojave desert.

I'm thinking the game is just beginning cause all I've done is stumble about and kill geckos, plants, and people attacking me....

..and the DLC is over. I didn't exchange a single word with anyone. I have no idea what happened and why these people were attacking me. $10 for that??

C'mon game designers. I understand I must have messed up somewhere, but everything I did was in good faith. It's not like I shot somebody in the face trying to talk to me. I'm just shooting back at people shooting at me and trying to get to the point on the map I'm being told too.

Makes me dubious about buying anymore dlc content.

You played it wrong.

HH is missing some essential markers on character. Daniel is vital to the storyline, as if Follows-Chalk and Joshua Graham. When you begin the DLC, your team is killed by the White-Legs. You proceed across the bridge to be welcomed by ONE attacking native and ONE nice native. The nice native is Follows-Chalk. If you kill him, you ruin the entire game. You talk to him and he tells you to speak to Graham at Dead Horse Point. You do, he tells you they need to defeat the White-Legs so you do some quests and eventually make your way to the Sorrow's little area in the North. You do quests for Daniel as well.

The only hostile natives are the White-Legs. No Dead Horses or Sorrows. You cannot kill Follows-Chalk, if you do, everyone becomes hostile. Like I said, it's missing some essential markers. Follows-Chalk should be marked as essential.

Yup, that one White-Leg on the other side of the bridge on top of the hill is supposed to be killed for you by a friendly, Follows-Chalk. If you killed him then you're going to have to reload. They should have done the "cut-scene" thing they do where your character stops moving and can't draw or shoot weapons. It caused a lot of confusion for players who were trigger happy.

You're going to have to reload.

I love that it actually gives you the quest "Chaos in Zion" if you kill any of the good tribals or any of the good main characters.

You probably killed follows chalk. Reload the dlc and once you cross the rope bridge don't shoot anything.

I completely disagree. Players too trigger happy to check their targets should get a lesson on why they need to change their habits.

+1.

NV is an RPG, that means listening to dialog, reading notes, watching holotapes, and checking your targets since there's no such thing as friendly fire(like RL). In Fallout 1, Allies, Enemies, and Companions alike were highlighted in red during battle. It was up to the player to determine whether the Super Mutants or Tycho or the residents of Shady Sands was their enemy. New Vegas continues this by allowing players to kill whoever they choose, necessitating great care with AOE weapons and trigger happy players(how do you survive like that in Fallout? Don't you run out of ammo?)

Even in CoD(as of CoD 2), players are supposed to check their targets before firing, else they lose because "Friendly fire will not be tolerated". And CoD & it's clones are the lowest standard of gaming as far as I am concerned.

Plus, not marking Follows-Chalk as essential means the player can choose to be hostile with Zion if they want. This ensures player agency, a major sticking point of RPGs.

Sorry for the rant, but I hated being unable to kill Elder Lyons no matter how strong I was.

I didn't think the devs would consider a 'beat the DLC in 20 minutes' angle of playing. x3 But I guess they have to. I guess I know why he wasn't marked as essential and why there wasn't a cut scene. I guess they don't want a repeat of Broken Steel where you were forced to help BoS. Still, there could have been plenty of workarounds.

Amusingly it seems that's exactly what you did.

I'd like to join! Anyways yeah, I thought this topic was gone a long time ago. I remember when HH first came out and there were so many threads on him the DLC was horrible just because they shot Follows-Chalk at the start lol.

I am also a member. I used my enhanced deducting capabilities to discern that, while the other tribals were shooting at me on sight, this lone tribal who just stood up from behind a bush like John Cleese was telling him to didn't even have his weapon pointed at me. I thus decided to take a minor risk and approach him with the knowledge that my fully modded Holorifle could easily vacate his skull of any squiggy brain matter before he even got his second shot off.

It sounds like you shot Follows Chalk.

The thing to remember is. Do not, however tempting it is, put on the shiny new white legs armour from the white legs at the start. Because Follows Chalk will attack you and you won't be able to do the dlc.
Also, don't shoot Follows Chalk for any other reason.

Also wearing White Legs armour around allies will make them turn on you. So don.t wear it unless you are alone.

I'm in, do we get some kind of membership card or do we just get to sit around and be smug about how good we are?

I think being smug should be enough, but I myself wouldn't decline accepting some sort of certificate.
