honest opinion on Crysis 1 for consoles.

Post » Mon Nov 28, 2011 8:33 pm

ok then, I'm a couple of hours in (not much I know) but so far here's what I can see.

Crysis 1 looks amazing on consoles, definitely not as amazing as on a super decked pc with everythingcranked up but definitely amazing for the hardware it runs on.

It runs smooth,it is bright, colorful and gorgeous. The shooting mechanics are solid, the nanosuits work delightfully and yes....speed mode is as fast as it was on PC (tho it was always an FOV issue). Power Jumping does not feel as good as it did in crysis 2 for some reason. The lack of damn nanovision and tactical mode is a bit of a pain and I miss ledge grabbing . Objects are destrucible, they can be picked up and thrown, most trees can be shot down or run over....but the game seems to lack a certain sense of weight that Crysis 2 had especially with the guns. I love that attachments are available for all weapons and that "semi auto" is not an extra attachment.

Armor mode, Cloak and Speed Mode drain suit energy MUCH faster than in crysis 2. Given the choice I'd rather have nano modules to boost the suit rather than more weapon attachments. All in all the difficulty level is higher in Crysis 1 so far. Having a voiced protagonist feels much better than having a silent one. The freedom of movement is also refreshing.

All in all...Awesome

You do have nightvision and binoculars in the game. Basically, those are your Nanovision and tactical view.

Also, it seemed that using speed mode, armor mode, and cloak mode it drained the energy meter slower than in Crysis 2. But I didn't really notice too much.

I know, but they are no way near as useful as actual nanovision and tactical mode from Crysis 2

Yes. You can use your fists. But you have to select them to use them. Plus, if you use your fist you automatically do power punches when you melee. When you are holding a weapon....you just do a simple melee attack. Holding down the melee button does a power melee attack.

OK thanks :)

Also, I noticed that we have to select grenades before using it like in C2, obviously not as convenient as the PC control.

The thing about the suit modes draining energy faster is a point of balance. It makes the game rely heavily on tactics and intelligence.

Crysis 2 didn't have that, now you'll see why it has nothing on the original.. providing the AI isn't the same retarded C2 AI of course.

You know by saying that you call Mr. Yerli a liar ;-)

And no ledge grabbing? Thats annoying for me... that would have improved C1.
Is there a stealth- kill option? (Edit thats what i missed the most in Crysis 1... i wanna play it RAMBO style ;-)

I have it for the PS3. I am just so glad I get to play this finally. I attempted to fire it up on my PC on low quality, but holy crap that was funny to see. I would have to probably put $300 more into my PC to play it at an acceptable level.

I don't care if the graphics aren't near what the PC has, they are still damn good. The game looks great and the single player campaign I think is a lot more fun than Crysis 2.

The lack of ledge grabbing is somewhat annoying but it doesn't really matter with such a fun game. I also like the simplified nanosuit controls on the console better.

Bottom line, the game looks and feels great on the console. I'm so glad they brought it out for the consoles otherwise I would have never been able to play it.

I definitely see the potential for a multiplayer. It seriously felt like I was playing battlefield when I was running around in the the boats and tanks. Either way, I'm just happy with the single player.

My view, as someone who has the game on PC as well, this game looks amazing. (most of the time) There are one or two places which have hideous textures, but they are few and far between. I'm on the tank level, and holy crap, it looks good. PC maxed out does look better, but it is close. I just wish in one or two of the places which have rubbish textures, Crytek would go back in and polish them up with an update. The first level is the biggest offender so far.

@bearlily

From what ive heard its not quite even near the maxed out Pc version for several reasons.

I trust Rukumouru on his review so far.

sorry I still dig Crysis 2 more even tho crysis 1 so far is amazing. The feeling is just better there to me. I prefer urban settings (especially is ravaged) to naturaln environments (savefor deserts and arid settings). The lack of ledge grab is annoying but not "broken". The Nanosuit 2 still looks better than the nanosuit 1 and and I miss my modules and Nanovision. I must say using vehicles this often in Crysis 1 is far more satisfying than those 2 limited drives in Crysis 2.

Weapon wise, as I said, I love the extra attachments and the fact they are all available toall weapons of the same kind but....why is there no silencer for my precision rifle so far? and if there ever was a choice beterrnextra attachments or more focus on the nanosuit I'd pick the latterany day

oh...and no there is no grain bug in Crysis 1

PS....psycho is a riot

The focus in Crysis is on the nanosuit, it's just not overpowered like it is in C2. Int he former you need to use the right mode while maintaining tactical routing and positioning to survive, especially if you aim to take the enemies out properly, which is without causing alarm.

Personally, I prefer the N1 visually too for its more 'spec ops' look, but of course that's just opinion.

Ahhh, what a shame, they have re-recorded much of the North Korean's speech. They are really funny on PC version - "You American pig!", "I'm gonna find you and kill you", "Yankee shankee!", "I'm gonna get you f**cker!", "You Western bastard!". And the way they would sometimes act all scared and let out a shriek when you surprised them was absolutely hilarious - haven't seen any of this on the console gameplay videos. They have lost some of their personality...

Still, console version looks excellent considering the limited hardware. I'm glad console gamers can finally enjoy some of the essence of Crysis as this now means now that Crysis 3 has to be excellent because now console players will not put up with such a step back as Crysis 2 is in many ways. Console gamers will hopefully now understand the frustrations of the disappointed PC fans - it's hard to go from something as fluid and open as the original Crysis to something as limited, simplified, closed and linear as Crysis 2.

I've played it nonstop for a couple of hours. It's really tough to put the controller down :)

Some impressions:
- The levels are not as big as I expected. I didn't play PC version so I dont know if they're the same or smaller than the PC version. I just read Rokumaru's review, he said the levels are still open and big but I feel that they're just as small and linear as C2. Also, there's less the foliage in the jungle.

- Rokumaru claimed the speed is dumbed down but I'm not sure. It's much faster than the sprint in C2 and we still can use normal sprint when there's no energy.

- Now the armor mode use energy but it drans very slowly, so I dont complain about this change.
- The destruction is great. We still can shoot palm trees, banana trees, destroy huts and sniper towers.
- Like Rokumaru said, they changed the Koreans voices, they're not as fun as the Koreans in PC. They're much better than the CELLS in C2, never get stuck in objects but sometimes they're cheap, for instance, I was shot by a guy even though I was cloaked and about 15 ft away from him!

So far it's really tough to play stealthily, because if you shoot 1 guy in the head with silenced guns, the other guys immediately shoot at you, so I have to play rambo style.

sorry.... I just feel nerfed. The suit is supposed to make you feel superhuman not just "slightly better than human"

and yes...sometimes cloak feels useless

huh? You're not playing it right, the areas are HUGE and no where near as linear as Crysis 2!!! You realise you don't have to stick to the roads and paths!! I think as you play the same levels a few times, you will learn to explore and find pockets of action you didn't find before.

Just beat it earlier today. Thoroughly enjoyed it (moreso than the second one, though I do like that one alot as well). Was surprised at the quality they were able to achieve on the xbox. Frame rate dips a tad in certain parts but that's to be expected and doesn't get to the point of being unplayable. I was surprised Onslaught ran so smoothly lol.

To be honest I liked the feel of the nanosuit better in this one. Yeah, it doesn't have the weighty feel of C2 but the energy drainage feels like it forces you to be more spontaneous with your suit powers instead of just relying on one all the time. Also, the enemies seem more aggressive which makes for more interesting gameplay.

@Mountaindude, It's "Rukumouru", bro! ;)

Yes, the sprint speed has been very slightly reduced from that of the original Crysis on PC. However, it's not half as severe as the Crysis 2 slowdown, and the Sprint drains your energy much slower. I don't dislike it, and I was very pleasantly surprised. The faster, spontaneous hyper-speed bursts in the original just suit my playstyle better, and it also seems it accelerates into full speed faster than on the console Crysis.

Also, playing stealthily is actually ridiculously easy, exactly as it was on PC. Do the following:

Cloak - Aim at the guy's head - Decloak and instantly shoot (preferably in Semiautomatic fire mode) - Cloak as soon as you're done pulling the trigger.

Rinse and repeat, slaughter entire enemy platoons right in front of their faces undetected. The same tactic works exactly the same in Crysis 2, both PC and consoles if you have Stealth Enhance.

EDIT: The most ridiculous part is that this works with unsilenced guns. Even with loud as hell shotgun blasts to the face. However, remember to keep at least 20-30 meters between you and the nearest korean or they will raqe you even if you cloak.

ALSO: You can do this to NanoSuit koreans as well, but only with one weapon: The almighty shotgun. Shoot them on the head from close-to-mid distances with the Laser Pointer and the long range (tight spread) shotgun shells. One hit KO. Not even the Gauss Rifle does this.

EDIT 2: And you can do it to Ceph in Crysis 2 when using the Sniper rifle, as headshots are still OHKO against them.
