An Honest Opinion of Crysis 2 (spoilers)

Post » Thu Nov 11, 2010 3:22 pm

I, like many of the PC gamers who bought Crysis 2 on day one, was very very disappointed. It was nothing like Crysis, it was like the slightly slow brother in the family you keep hidden in the closet for most of the year. The story mode was terrible. No Nomand, no Psycho, what is this world coming to? Prophet, barely an afterthought. Alcatraz, a dead guy in a suit, literally and figuratively. With no voice and the inability to really think for yourself at all in the game, you're more or less playing as a Nanosuit. The main character should be called, Nanosuit containing Dead Extra #1. The story did pick up near the end, though it left so many plot holes it was pretty bad. The alien virus story disappears fairly quickly, you never hear what happened to Nomad or Psycho, etc. The ending is a big cliffhanger, but with so much behind it unanswered, it feels like Crysis 2 is a little island missing the connections to the original. Overall, I found the story mode to be a gigantic flop.

However, the story mode is not the bread and butter of the game. The multiplayer is. I too experienced many of the horrible and game crippling errors that prevented having any fun in multiplayer. This week the Crytech team fixed a lot of them, or at least posted work around. (The most annoying for me was the unlocking dog tags and equipment glitch, but the fix is pretty easy and now it all works.) Getting in to multiplayer can be tough. I've spent a lot of games dieing four or five times in a row and qqing hard. The real gem of multiplayer though is its complete opposition to other fpses. Most modern fpses focus on accuracy and killing fast. In Crysis 2 the game is about fire fights. You're a Nanosuit operator, not some flimsy cardboard pansy. Firefights last and both sides can take hits before dieing. Though the weapon selection is a little lacking, it's still an incredible game. Just today I played Extraction and went 15/0 over the two rounds. I was brought to almost dead multiple times, but with some quick reflections and suit function swapping continued on. Though the game is glitchy, and it may not ever be the successor we wanted to see, the multiplayer is a true gem among fpses, especially computer ones.

TL;DR Crysis 2's multiplayer is incredible and we can't continue to judge the game based on its lack of caliber to Crysis. Crysis multiplayer svcked, pick one or the other and deal with it.

You should post 'SPOILER' warnings before you post details like that (although having played through halfway I kinda suspected what you posted) - a few people are still waiting for the SP to be fixed before completing it.

Or dont read threads titled "my thoughts about crysis 2". pretty good chance a thread with a title like that might talk about the SP.

So any post that mentions an opinion on Crysis 2 should be assumed to tell you important plot points.

Cut the arguments please.

Added "spoiler" tag... it's not a difficult process and avoids issues like this.
