Hong Kong advice

Post » Thu Aug 25, 2016 9:43 am

I will be studying for a year in Hong Kong at HKU and depart monday.

If any of you have any tips, advice etc for living in the city that would be great.

This is also potentially one of my last topic/posts on these forums as i will no longer regularly visit in HK, and by the time i return to the UK next year, everything may have moved to Bethesda.net. So just in case, goodbye to everyone here who i won't see on the new site.

Hong Kong is awesome. I love that place. Don't be afraid to make friends there. I did and I had a blast while they showed me around.

Pretty much all you have to do is act like a normal human being and you'll be just fine.

advice:

remember, other nations have far different societal norms and customs, especially when going from a western Nation to an East Asian one like you will be doing..

before you even get on the plane, do quite a bit of research into what is and isn't acceptable in the nation you are going to visit.. a rather common example in many east Asian nations is you really shouldn't give anyone a tip, as to those in many asian nations it is considered disrespectful..

anyways, enoy yourself man

He's a royal and rich so can get away with being a total dike, you probably can't.

Hong Kong is cool. Chinese people are cool as well. I guess just be careful and be safe and achieve what you are going to study.

Hong Kong is probably rather used to Brits being Brits*, though, so there shouldn't be as much danger of faux paus as there would be elsewhere in China.

*I mean, the city was founded on the principle of selling opium to feed a tea addiction (and being willing to declare war on a country to expedite matters).
