Hoods and Beast Races

Post » Thu Dec 15, 2011 5:27 pm

My Argonian has lots of horns, but that was a mistake on my part. I like the way he looks in hoods, so that's what I'm wearing. Yeah, it would've been a nice touch if they had made it so things like horns would affect the way a hood looks, but I fail to see the importance of this issue, it's purely cosmetic and you don't even look at yourself, half the time

Who said the sixes were 50/50?

You're reaching. It doesn't matter if the gender division is perfectly equal. 60:40, 70:30 (it's definitely not that extreme) — the basic intent is the same. Keep in mind I'm responding to whining about the Dragon Priest masks, here.

Why shouldn't a Khajiit or Argonian be able to wear a mask that makes them seem humanoid, by the way? It makes sense to me. I can wear a cat mask or a lizard mask in real life. Your complaints are bad and you should feel bad.

That 20 percent is my favorite 20 percent. Also of note is Wood Elf ear clipping and long hair clipping. Sloppy.

Frivolous nitpick. No one cares.

The tips of my dunmer's ears poke out of her glass helmet. It's a tad annoying, but guess what? They can't catch every problem before launch. I'm not even a fan boy, my posting history will show me generously smashing on Bethesda for some of their design decisions. It's just that your complaints are frivolous and childish. Complain about something that matters, please.

Skyrim is a pretty fair distance from Elsweyr and Black Marsh, and Argonians and Khajiits are relatively rare there. Presumably, those masks were carved by humanoids to look like humanoid faces. Are they supposed to magically morph to look like cats and lizards? 3x the workload for Bethesda's artists for the sake of exactly matching the beast races?

If you're on the PC, don't worry, there will be fursuit mods.

In that mentality there still are Khajiit caravan's that should provide the right raced head wear, which would end up floating around the shops.

I think the developers got lazy.

I don't know why they can't acknowledge some people play as beast races. This issue really make me annoyed, it really just makes you a Human with a tail.

I just started playing a beast race. Khajiit, for the first time in my entire elderscrolls history, I'm always an Imperial or Dark elf. Bummer.

some exclusive beast helmets/hoods would be nice
but I can see why they didn't do it because of gameplay
would svck to have only a handful of head gear to wear if you're a beast race
and considering the culture of skyrim is pretty much exclusively humanoid they would be pretty rare

Beast races get the shaft once again.

I just tell myself to "follow realism" and accept that the mask wasn't made for a lizard face. svcks though.

I don't know if this is what you're referring to but i know that my thieves hood looked different on beast races; it wasnt covering part of their face like it did with the human/elf races.

i made a wood elf and my thieves guild hood didnt even work
correction the effect worked but the hood didnt show up

Any kind of head wear on beast races looks overwhelmingly stupid and lazy.

Yes, 50% of all races being male and 50% being female is directly comparable to 20% of the races having slightly different facial structures. You've got me there.

This.

Which is why i never use helmets or hats. Good thing there are circlets, allows me to still utilise the head slot for enchantments.

Once the CK is released there'll no doubt be again a mod for human headed khajiits (Ohmes-Raht subspecies), so that solves the head deforming issue :hehe:

I don't really mind the khajiit changes too much -- the major changes with them is that it cuts off their ears, but one could imagine that their ears are laying flat beneath a helmet or hood.

The bigger issue is with argonians who have horns (which is pretty much all of them). Their noses are also extremely long.

And closed-faced helmets.

I have to wonder what the designers were thinking. I'm HOPEFUL that a work-around is possible for would-be modders, such as the infrastructure for race-specific models.

Perhaps its too much of a bother making a seperate face/character/whatever for the argonians. Anyway i feel skyrim's rather weird, it seems to be missing many small things that could be put in fairly easily :spotted owl:

Bingo. Exactly Skyrim's problem. And despite taking five years to develop makes it feel rushed.

The only real option for closed helmets is not allowing argonians to equip them, a-la-Morrowind.

How can you complain about Khajiit/Argonians' face changing while wearing masks that were specifically made for humans? Would you prefer they were completely unable to wear dragon priest masks?

The open-faced helmets are fine, so I don't see why the closed-faced helmets wouldn't work.

I hate how the Elven and glass helms cut off the cool back on my Khajiit character, leaving just the visor and WAY too much of my neck exposed.
