Hoods and Beast Races

Post » Thu Dec 15, 2011 9:46 am

I am extremely dissapointed with the way hoods look on the beast races. Both male and female Argonian/Khajiit thieves/mages get only one hood model and it's very open and innefective at concealment. Post pictures to prove me wrong? I really, really wanna be wrong. This is my only issue with the game, and it's anol and stupid but... HOODS!

I don't know if this is what you're referring to but i know that my thieves hood looked different on beast races; it wasnt covering part of their face like it did with the human/elf races.

That's part of what I'm talking about. Hoods are purely open and don't reflect Khajiit ears or Argonian horns.

the Nightingale hood changes my Argonian to a human shaped head. Regular hoods though, I don't mind as much, I tend not to cover up anyway 'cause i love how his head/face/ came out.

It's way more egregious on Argonians, for sure. Can I get some screenshots of Khajiit/Argonian Characters in Linwe's, Shrouded, Guild Master's, and Nightengale sets? I would do it myself, but I play on Xbox and that represents days of effort rather than minutes.

I don't really mind the khajiit changes too much -- the major changes with them is that it cuts off their ears, but one could imagine that their ears are laying flat beneath a helmet or hood.

The bigger issue is with argonians who have horns (which is pretty much all of them). Their noses are also extremely long.

And closed-faced helmets.

I have to wonder what the designers were thinking. I'm HOPEFUL that a work-around is possible for would-be modders, such as the infrastructure for race-specific models.

THIS! I only wear hoods or hats.

Another reason why I only wear hats and hoods.

The open-faced helmets are fine, so I don't see why the closed-faced helmets wouldn't work.

The Nightingale armor changes faces of Khajiit and Argonian characters into men/women with tails. Khajiit and Argonians look [censored] awesome. But the head options they have are just deplorable.

Skyrim is a pretty fair distance from Elsweyr and Black Marsh, and Argonians and Khajiits are relatively rare there. Presumably, those masks were carved by humanoids to look like humanoid faces. Are they supposed to magically morph to look like cats and lizards? 3x the workload for Bethesda's artists for the sake of exactly matching the beast races?

If you're on the PC, don't worry, there will be fursuit mods.

Not really a shock. This game was only about Nords, and the rest of the races were just kinda thrown in.

I don't mind how they look on beasts, what got me annoyed was my nords hair clipping through the hood, I had to use the console to shave him bald so I didn't have this ridiculous patch of hair just poking out on the back of my head.

No.

There isn't a totally equal mix of races, unlike in Oblivion, because Skyrim is a mostly Nord province. In fact, the implementation of the other races seemed quite thoughtful to me, with Khajiits tending to be nomads, wandering merchants and thieves, Argonians tending to be menial laborers, the Dunmer as refugees, mages and mercenaries, Altmer as mages and scholars, Redguards as foreign visitors and recently integrated immigrants, Imperials as the meddling invaders and merchants, Bretons... not too sure about them, and Nords as the vast majority — in short, FAR more thoughtful than Oblivion.

Do you expect to go to Japan in real life and see 25% Caucasian people, 25% African people, 25% Hispanic people, and only 25% Japanese?

Yes, 50% of all races being male and 50% being female is directly comparable to 20% of the races having slightly different facial structures. You've got me there.

That 20 percent is my favorite 20 percent. Also of note is Wood Elf ear clipping and long hair clipping. Sloppy.
