Wait, weren't you the one chasing people off to another forum for being "Fallout fans blinded by nostalgia that can't let go of the past" and now you site the "people who created Fallout" as a legitimate reason to preclude aliens?
Oh gods yes please.
Or that Simpson joke:
"Danger danger, my claws are flailing wildly"
I skipped Anchorage & MZ DLCs because there were so much negative criticism on those two DLCs.
I had plenty of time to read about it because I played FO3 on PS3... and Microsoft used FO3 DLCs to be XBOX Time exclusive in console war.
There's a difference between being looking back at the originals with nostalgia goggles and being against something that completely goes against what Fallout is supposed to be about. Fallout is about humanity first and foremost. Aliens have no place in this universe outside of an easter egg.
Things like the crashed ship in Fallout 3 and 4 are fine. Things like Mothership Zeta and the Cabot quest aren't.
Clearly, and empirically wrong.
Don't like it; ignore it.
You can't argue against a point that the creators of the universe themselves made.
You can when it's owned by someone else and they change it.
Just ask George Lucas about his input into the new Star Wars.
It's be nice if a thread here could stay on topic
As just a stand-alone area, unconnected to Fallout lore, Mothership Zeta was not bad. It was interesting, funny in places and overall had a good design for a linear area. I liked it a hell of a lot more than The Pitt, Lonesome Road or Honest Hearts.
But it was still very out of place for a Fallout game in terms of content. The whole "aliens" concept was always meant to be either an easter egg or just a light tongue-in-cheek joke in the Fallout games. A gag that showed up here and there but was never meant to be part of the setting's lore. So for many, myself included, making an entire DLC about it went a bit over the line from just a gag to trying to make it part of the setting's lore. It was still meant to be silly, but if felt too serious and the concept just rubbed a lot of people the wrong way. It's one of the few cases where an "it was all a dream" or "another simulation like anchorage" ending would have been perfect for many players.
I think it's actually a rather relevant part of the conversation. MZ was a very silly DLC compared to the others produced for Fallout 3 and New Vegas. Even Old World Blues, which had a lot of silliness in it, tried to stay more in line with the tone and history of the setting then MZ. The description for Automatron mentions the Mechanist, who was a costumed super hero in Fallout 3 in one of the sillier side quests. So that hints that this DLC might be a bit silly. So a comparison to silly DLC from the past is quite appropriate.
From the description though I'd guess that they might push it to "Mechanist vs Antagonizer" levels of silliness or even as high as "Old World Blues" silliness, but I didn't get the feeling that they were aiming at Mothership Zeta levels of silliness. Either way though I would appreciate a bit of silliness in my DLC. That humor is part of what I love about Fallout games (and why I couldn't get into Wasteland 2).
I for one thought Mothership Zeta was a hoot. Cowboys and aliens and Samurai? I'm in!
I'm not going to, I liked it, you didn't. Anyway.....
A return of robot dogs would be nice, or better being able to convert dogmeat to a robot dog.
You....I like you. You explained yourself in a far better way than I ever could.
I disagree insofar as the new content is handled according to the Fallout "thing". Mothership Zeta was...interesting. Kinda. Didn't really like it or hate it. I agree completely that it did NOT fit into the Fallout universe as executed.
Nostalgia aside, there were many aspects of Fallout 1 and 2 that were simply better. In actuality. Dialogue and role-playing opportunities were superior. Conversations / dialogue had more impact on the overall story. Challenge was brilliant -- rewarding diligence without holding the player's hand.
The dialogue was far better, yes. The challenge I think has more to do with the terrible (imo) combat the originals had.
I could go for another Old World Blues experience. Oh, I just want to give a Sentry Bot a motherly voice to make me feel loved.
I like these [censored] pointless [censored]posts on how "aliens aren't realistic".
Infact I'm gonna go make a topic about why they are actually so stupid.. see you in a sec haters x'D
It has nothing to do with realism (Fallout has never been about realism) and everything to do with them not fitting or belonging in the setting outside of easter eggs.
Agreed. I like when games include a nod to their predecessors in entertainment.
I really do hope that it pushes the level of silliness to hitch in with the Silver Shroud quest. There is so much potential for hilarious dialogue if you're dressed in the Grognak or SS costumes. I really hope we can take The Mechanists costume and complete our super hero set
I hope we get some new Silver Shroud dialog options to go along with it.
There are other robots than the ones that Bethesda have put into their game. I'd like to see more. Fallout Tactics had a few that we haven't seen; http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Loadlifter_robot, http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Pacification_robot, http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Security_robot. The http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Behemoth_(robot) however might be over doing it lol.
Yeah some wackiness would be great seeing it was a little lacking (which ok) in the main game. Would also like Beth to fix the race track so that we can race our robots against the raider bots (or if you killed all the raiders some other guy takes over and makes it family friendly).
