I hope Dragon Mounts are in !

Post » Mon Mar 14, 2011 3:53 pm

Of course I'd want it to be in the game and it's surprising to see the negativity considering it would provide the ability to fly. Anything that brings the ability to fly in the air is something appealing to me. I feel it's one of the most important progressions for the series - to be able to fly. To me it's a bare minimum that should be provided in games. But I think the ultimate evolution of the flying concept should be that your character itself can fly and attach itself to any single point in the game, whilst flying and not.

It's more than possible to be able to ride dragons, despite the character being a dragonslayer. The type of genre the game touches on just provides this. One need not think so narrow, that just because the story involves killing dragons you can't mount one through an endless amount of possibilities for how.

As cool as the concept sounds, I just fear that it would end up being really cheesy. I think it'd be hard, but they could do it well, but I'm not expecting them to do it at all.

Better Idea: One of the dragon shouts actually turn you into a small dragon, that lets you fly around to reach higher areas with secret treasure, but while you are in dragon form land enemies are not attackable.

This was done VERY successfully in Divinity: Ego Draconis - it was realistic, fun, the flight speeds you could get to if you were flying downwards were awesomely fast. There were no downsides.z

I'm sure some lore geek is going to shoot it down though, although I don't see anything that could conflict with it. There's morphing already in the world. Heck, if the dwemer could turn themselves into a god, this really isn't that far-fetched, is it?

The only time I want to be able to ride a dragon is while killing it. Imagine leaping from a cliff or a tower onto the back of a dragon and proceeding to stab it several times with your sword, riding it to the ground as it dies. Similar to Gandalf and the Balrog in The Two Towers (movie version).

The idea is cool enough, but it probably couldn't be implemented properly. Maybe as a temporary use Dragon Shout.

If they add dragon mounts, this'll be the last Elder Scrolls game I ever buy, because it'll prove Bethesda has caved in.

I've got to say no because the dragons are really advanced formidable creatures that would not let a little man or elf ride them.

Then how is it that a "little man" defeats all of them?

To the Emperium, dragons were sacred and now we have an ES coming where we get to play a cliche dragon slayer. No BGS hasn't caved at all...

Would be WAY too cheesy imo. Plus you're gonna be fighting tons of dragons I don't think it's going to fit well with the lore.

I know that they've caved, but it's not 100% caved.

Not really. If you read the earlier Elder Scrolls concepts, EVERY PREVIOUS GAME has been little more than a prequel to the return of the dragons to Tamriel. They didn't cave to public opinion, and they no doubt recieved all sorts of feedback since Daggerfall hit shelves about why there were no dragons. this was not BGS Caving, it was an elaborate and long-planned finale for an Era of Elder Scrolls Lore.

This is no "Generic Dragon Slaying Game", its an important time in the Canon of the Game.

If we can RIDE dragons, they've caved. If we're really a dragon in disguise who didnt know it (see Battlestar Galactica Cylons), they've caved. If dragons are level-scaled, I can't even say how much they've caved...

Please Bethesda, make dragons something to be feared.

They could also pull off character urination "properly". There are some ideas that are just plain stupid and shouldn't make it into the game.
This is one of them.

Sorry, but I don't care if you object or not: that's going in my siggy.

Riding a dragon is virtually impossible, for many, many reasons.

and yet there was a mod for it in oblivion, funny that.

riding a dragon would be awesome, stop being an elitest dragon nerd because you feel that your dragons will not be "TEH EPIC OVOR LORDEZ " in skyrim

 Why is everyone so obsessed with riding dragons? New's flash: its not cool, only cheesy, especially considering what we know about dragons from past lore.

Ok, I don't get you guys/girls?!?!?

You don't want to ride dragons because of the lore? Where does it say that you can't ride a dragon?

THE LORE:
I read this about the dragon symbol that is EVERYWHERE: "The most potent symbol of the Empire and the Imperial crown, the dragon banner, is said to be based on an Akaviri design as well. Some sources claim that the Akaviri long ago rode red dragons as mounts in war." (http://www.imperial-library.info/content/guide-akavir#influence) - down by the Heraldry title.

Then I read this: (http://www.imperial-library.info/content/daggerfall-story-lysirius)

It is the story of Lysirius - about a guy who "tamed" and made the Dragon fight for him. He RODE THE DRAGON to fight in battles in ELDER SCROLLS LORE!

You are a DragonSLAYER,
and you are DragonBORN,
You speak in DragonTONGUE.
Why can't you speak to the dragons and "TAME" a dragon to ride?

EXAMPLES:
(This is a stretch, but...) Have you ever seen the movie How To Train Your Dragon? In this movie, Dragons are tamed and used to help out against "evil" dragons.
Have you ever seen Wall-E? He is a robot that helps humans against "evil" robots.
Have you ever seen ToyStory? The good toys help against the "evil" toys.

IMPLEMENTATION:
Make the "Dragonborn" able to tame a dragon and RIDE the dragon for a SHORT period of time (45sec-2mins). Make it part of the quest. You have to tame a Dragon to fight back 5 other Dragons attacking a settlement all at once.

Once the "tame" is over, the dragon lands and bucks you off (or you have to kill it).

Advantages - You ride a dragon
You kill other dragons and FIGHT FIRE WITH FIRE!
You feel empowered and like a true DRAGONBORN
You can only do this ONCE and it only lasts long enough to be an AWESOME PART OF THE GAME

Disadvantages - You get a scale SPLINTER IN YOUR CHAINMAIL!!

Now what do you think?

Todd even said they do things in game and they like to "go big". They do take chances and learn from them. I don't think riding a dragon is that far off.

(see my earlier post, I don't think dragons should be ridable for the entire game)

I dont want a dragon to ride either, but please dont get self righteous on people as tho you are lore master, this stuff will be new lore with what could be new rules, you dont know anymore about the story then the rest of us so dont be saying impossible and game ruin-er you have no idea what can and cant be implemented into skyrim at this point, and all have the right to dream no dream is stupid

New events do not change past events... He wasn't being self-righteous, he was utilizing his knowledge. Nearly all of the people who say "game ruin-er" have actually played the games long enough to know what wouldn't fit... Especially those who know the lore.

Are you still defending them?

Did you read my earlier post?

Dragons have been used as mounts before and ITS IN THE LORE!
