I hope obsidian makes another fallout...again.

Post » Tue Nov 17, 2015 2:52 pm

I didn't finish the first Fallout, skipped the second, played the ever-loving hell out of F3 and FNV and am loving F4.

New Vegas is my favorite Fallout game. I realize that sounds crazy to some of you but it's true. It's a complimentary game to F3; You've got free-roaming with a bit of RPG story in F3, you've got RPG story with a touch of free-roaming in FNV. I've gone on and on defending New Vegas in other threads so spare me from doing it again. But if Beth asked former Fallout developers (doesn't need to be Obsidian) to develop another game I'll definitely play it.

Best of both worlds.

By the way, I'm only about 30 hours in to F4 but it seems like Beth paid attention to what Obsidian did with NV. The game is very reminiscent of NV in many ways; I'm aware that many elements of NV were inspired by PC modders but I play on console so all I have to go on is that. But the combat, crafting and moral ambiguity seem inspired by the early games and NV.

F4 is prettier than F3 but damned if it isn't darker.

Uncle Al, are you thinking inXile? That could be rather intersting as well, Wasteland 2 Directors Cut is very good as well... Having Brian Fargo have a go as well would only be fair:-)

Sure, why not?

There are quite a few old Fallout programmers out there besides the ones that have become 'names'. Could be cool.

FO3: Played to finish once. Started once more but just got bored of it.

FONV: Played to finish 2-3 times? Started about 100 more games that ended because getting overpowered.

FO4: Not sure. Might play through it once one day, but not in a hurry.

FNext: If done by Obsidian I know it will have RPG elements and replayability options I will value more.

So I'm all for another Obsidian game. Story telling in their FO game and DLCs are superb. Never bothered with FO DLCs.

Obsidian told a great story (several if you count DLC's) and made memorable characters. Its something new alright to Bethesda. Beth is better at crafting interesting to explore and spectacular worlds, but their storytelling leaves much to be desired. Truth be told Fallout 4 is much better then 3 in this regard.

I prefer FO3 over FNV because of the map but I totally agree with the OP. But I also prefer FO3 over FO4.

FO3 may have been weaker than FNV when it comes to rpg elements, but FO4 was a just a disappointment for me. There is very little room for rp - the dialog wheel is atrocious.

-The dialog choices are limited.

-The dialog choices are similar with each other in most of the cases.

-NPC reactions/consequences are limited and most choices lead to the same reactions.

-SPECIAL/perk/skill checks are gone. Only generic % charisma checks left.

A new FNV please. I prefer the map not being as good as Beths, at least I'll get to play my favorite rpg again.

I have a sneaky feeling, that Obsidian won't be available anyways. Paradox Interactive recently bought White Wolf, which includes World of Darkness. Appearently, Obsidian have already been contacted by Paradox.

Same thing here. I've logged about 50 hours in it trying to see what others liked so much and couldn't find it. For me, They missed the mark just like they did with Knights of the old Republic Revenge of the Sith. I frankly don't want them near anyone else's IP I enjoy again.

II suppose its really no skin off my nose though, I'll just skip the game.

New Vegas was absolute garbage. A convoluted ridiculous story that I really couldn't wait to finish. If Obsidian go anywhere near another Fallout I certainly won't be buying it.

A game with Fallout 4's quality combat mechanics and Obsidian's amazing story?

Where do I toss money?

Holy [censored] what the [censored] is going on with this thread? Can people even bother to explain things when they claim that the game is ''garbage''?

I agree Fallout NV svcked bad I played it for a 25hrs and never touched it again! Please Bethesda don't let Obsidian ruin another Fallout!

P.S. I don't know why there is so much crying on the forums about Fallout 4. The game is awesome and its much better then Fallout 3 and Fallout NV. The thing to remember is times are changing and you either adapt or move on. I am 41 years old and I know that they are making games for a new generation of gamer's. I don't cry about it, I adapt!

I preferred FO3 to New Vegas.

I can understand why NV has its fans. In particular, it was far more faithful to the Fallout lore. On the other hand, I don't think Obsidian understood the strengths and weaknesses of the engine as well Bethesda did. I can applaud them for turning deathclaws and giant radscorpions back into the unstoppable death machines they should always have been, for instance, but the price we paid for that was a game that only really had one safe route until you got to New Vegas itself. The first play through it didn't matter so much, but after that I got really fed up with the run right down the map and then back up again that I'd generally lost interest when I got to Vegas. Either that or I'd cheat and toggle map markers to start there.

So it's always been my opinion that NV might have been a better Fallout, but that FO3 was a better game. (I also didn't like the music in New Vegas which colours my perception of it a lot more than it probably should).

That said, I much prefer NV to FO4. They gave us a near perfect tabula rasa for the player character, and kept the skill system intact. That counts for an awful lot in my book.

Things evolve. So does fallout and its mechanics. I hope they won't go anymore into FPS into future and still keep VATS but change with Skills and SPECIAL is imo a good thing.

Yeah. I mean it's not like you can run down the river bank to Rivet City, or head north to Big Town and Paradise Falls. You can't head west in search of Canterbury Commons. It's not even as though you can just hang around Craterside Supplies helping Moira Brown write her book.

Oh wait, what am I talking about? You can do all those things.

Honestly, you'd have a hard job finding a direction you can't explore in when you start FO3. You're going to have difficulty making the same claim for NV. I suppose you stay in Primm and grind 20 levels out of respawing powder gangers, but it doesn't sound like much fun to me.

[edit]

I should probably also mention the option to nuke Megaton and run down to live in Tenpenny Tower.
