i hope we see some new weapons...

Post » Wed Dec 22, 2010 3:58 am

well, im sure we'll get the usual: long/short shorts, daggers, claymores, war axes, battleaxes, warhammers, staves, maces, etc...

but i really want to see spears come back, i mean, why were those ever cut out, anyway? then they go and tease us all throughout oblivion by having spears/pikes stuck in the ground with skulls impaled on them, laying them all over the place, but not allowing us to touch them... that was just EVIL! :banghead:

anyway, to get to my main reason i made this... im kind hoping they'll give us a weapon i've always loved... SCYTHES!

i wanted to wield a scythe for so long in these games, but i never saw one... my hopes shot up to the heavens when they released the mehrunes' razor DLC for oblivion... i mean, in that dungeon you could find FARM TOOLS you could wield as weapons!

...unfortunately, they only made heavy hoes and rakes...

my hopes crashed back to nirn as i realized bethesda just jerked me around again!

i mean out of ALL the tools you see NPCs using, which one would you turn into a weapon?! COME ON!!!

i'd rather have a scythe than a stupid rake or a hoe... sure, they looked painful, but a scythe would've been the best, even if it was wielded like a battleaxe/warhammer...

i really hope there will atleast be one scythe in skyrim we can use... i play on the consoles because i dont have the money to keep up with computers, i dont care what you people say, consoles are cheaper, atleast where i live... there are no people anywhere in the city i live that give good deals.

well, im done with my small rant... now im wondering, which new types of weapons would you guys like to see?

if there is already a topic exactly like this, im gonna be so angry... cause i didnt see one!

oh, and PLEASE dont suggest anything even remotely similar to guns [crossbows are fine], cause i'll smack you...

It's more logical to ask for templates. As soon as they exist, modders can use them. Two that I have on my mind (other than Morrowind standarts) are flails and click-hold-to-fire weapons.I do NOT want to see guns in the game, but I'd like to have the template in the CS.Possibly this could also be used for melee weapons like Ripper from Fallout,or there was a Daedric Sawblade mod.Note that I want these as MODS.

New materials would be great :) I'm thinking, stahlrim from Bloodmoon... If that'd be applicable in Skyrim.

And new weapon types: I'd like to see katanas and dai-katanas, tantos and wakizashis... And more lore-centric weapons! I'm sure there are others besides the Daedric Crescent, et cetera (and I suppose that could be brought back since the Empire no longer exists)

And crossbows. Would be a great addition, and I'm quite certain 200 years is long enough to have developed them.

that still sounds like a gun to me... even if its function isnt exactly the same.

no fallout-eque weapons!

also, i said new weapons IN THE GAME... not added by mods... unlike you, im thinking of the people who arent rich and born with gold bricks in their diapers. :slap:

I'd like to see some more mundane, everyday items available for use as weaponry. Kitchen knives, walking staffs, branches (maybe even with the option to set them alight) pokers, farm tools, throw-able stones...

If Skyrim has any quest involving Hircine, and his spear does not appear, I'll be extremely disappointed. I mean, c'mon!
Spears aren't boring. I don't know why game developers consider spears obsolete... Polearms are so much more diverse weapons than, say, your average twohanded axe/hammer. Actually, polearms can be just that, but longer.

crossbows were already developed, in morrowind, there were both steel and dwemer crossbows.

bethesda just left them out of oblivion to focus on normal archery.

i guess crossbows were originally a dwemer creation, and their designs were copied to create steel crossbows, though they didnt seem to be all that much used, i think... probably the imperials who made the steel ones.

Makes sense if your going to include an ability to light campfires

The problem I could see with scythes in a TES game is that it simply wouldn't look right. In order to strike with a scythe requires it to be turned based on the angle of the attack, which to my knowledge, just doesn't sit well with TES animations. :/

I'd like to see:

Spears (Obviously need to return or Bethesda's going to have to deal with so many angry nerds)
Pikes, halberds, poleaxes, other polearms
Thrown weapons (And I don't just mean knives and stars, this is freaking Viking-land! Throwing axes, throwing spears!)
Perhaps a flail?
If we can now attack while mounted, I'd dig having a lance.
It'd be nice to have crossbows back.
Some improvised weapons would be swell. (Busted bottle, chair leg, table, etc...)
Torches?

Uh...Mods,are community made free plugins, using them is totally up to the player. So I don't get how wanting templates to be used with mods make me "born with gold bricks in their diapers".The ones sold are called DLC (Download Content)

well they have a completely new engine for skyrim, so animations for a scythe-style could work... until we see a video showing the animations, we have no idea what its capable of...

besides, that still doesnt excuse them for not including scythes in oblivion with the mehrunes razor DLC... using the battleaxe/warhammer animations, a scythe should've easily been done, just like the rake and hoe...

i could say the same to you... you COMPLETELY missed what i was referring to... computers cost a TON to keep up-to-date with, and from what i've seen here, they cost several hundred, or thousands or more to afford high-end computers to be able to play these games at decent settings plus adding all those mods onto them...

THAT is what i was referring to... like i said, maybe you should follow your own advice and anolyze things before insulting me. :slap:

i wonder if there will be weapon-related perks, as well... not just to make us better at them, but to allow for new attacks... would finishing moves be perks we learn, or would our character just automatically know right away how to kill enemies with special moves using a weapon he/she's hardly skilled at?

if spears are back, it'd be interesting seeing their finishing moves...

I expect we'll get a good selection of weapons but it would be nice if the engine allows for new anim groups for custom weapon types so us modders can expand things more easily. During OB I was certain OBSE was going to open up custom animations on a per item basis so I modelled things like crossbows, spears, polearms, wands, etc but aside from Crossbows of Cyrodiil nothing was really implemented. Damn hardcoded limitations.

Yes. Perks and finishing moves should have to be learnt, either from a book or an NPC, preferably the latter.

Oh, I can just see it now, running through Skyrim with an imp-kebab... :chaos:

I think he meant that he doesn't want to buy an expensive computer to run a game that he could run on a 300 dollar xbox. Which I agree with, because I am cheap also.

it's probably something like goring them, and then impaling them through their chest. Or, stabbing in the chest, and then beheading them with a side sweep to the neck. That would be pretty freakin awesome.

Some people have day jobs and work for their money. Regardless, I just wanted to chime in and say that you're way off. Computers aren't that expensive at all. I bought my comp for 600, that included my monitor. Threw in another 90 bucks for a graphics card and I could run Oblivion on the highest video settings. So that's a total of 690 bucks. And not only did I get a gaming rig, I got a whole computer with it.

Look at an xbox or ps3. What did those cost when they first came out? Heck, how much do they still cost now? Several hundred bucks. And all you get is the console. I'm sure just about anyone out there who has an xbox or ps3 also owns a computer. So that's even more money than just owning a gaming computer...

If you buy parts yourself and build your own gaming computer, it doesn't cost very much at all. And it's definitely cheaper than buying a console and a normal computer. Plus I can do so much more with my computer..
(And no, you don't have to be any super tech wiz to build one, you can find instructions online.) Besides, console users have to buy the next console to keep up, and as I said, those aren't exactly cheap.

Not trying to be mean. I just hate it when people start talking crap about how only super rich people can afford to play games on a computer. Just makes no sense at all.

I'd like a double barrel shotgun.. a beretta and uuh.. na just joking.. haa haa haa..

Spears would be cool, also scythes but it's not elderscrolls-ish imo, sure it's really cool in those manga games or w/e with super scythes that burns and [censored] but in elder scrolls.. naaaah, wouldn't fit imo.
