I hope the game won't need a supercomputer to run?

Will the game need a super computer to run? I've got an x-box but I'd definately prefer it if I had mod capabilities. Anyone know if it would be possible to turn off some of the more exotic graphics and such.

My guess is that if your pc could run Oblivion then you should be able to play this,

Nothing has been released about the specs of the game yet, so everything is speculation at this point

no clue as of yet but as ive said in another thread i am hoping it will utilize multi core. it should have the basics such as AA, AF, resolution, texture quality. it may go more in depth like CoD WaW and give options for dynamic foliage but this is all in speculation. the only thing i can recomend to cover yourself is you have a year. plan a new pc build and do alot of research (unless you are already a pc guru) and build you a new system over that year. i currently have this planned out for myself

AMD Phenom II X2 555 Black Edition which should seems to have a good chance to unlock to a quad
4gb ddr3 1333
ASUS M4A88TD-V mobo which can unlock cores and over clock
RAIDMAX HYBRID 2 RX-730SS 730W power supply
HIS H577FK1GD Radeon HD 5770 (Juniper XT) 1GB 128-bit GDDR5
COOLER MASTER HAF 922 case

theres a few more things for cooling im going to add in but those are the important parts which come to $543.94 +tax and sh&h which if you spread it out over a year and buy part by part and watch for sells and special offers you should be able to make a nice machine that can run it no prob at high/max settings.

I hope the game doesn't lag as much as fallout new vegas. The stuttering is so annoying. I can play just cause 2 and crysis no problem but it just kills me to play fallout.

Might take a super computer to play on highest details but for normal details, you should be able to play it on an average computer like most games.

The stuttering is the bad programming in Gamebryo. Luckily enough, Bethesda stopped licensing Gamebryo and is using an in-house built game engine.

No you won't need a super computer to play the game. You don't even need a super computer for Crysis on custom graphics.

And going by the level of detail I saw in GI, I'd say at most you'd need a gaming computer that would probably cost, by the time Skyrim's released, anywhere between $900 (for just plain being able to play it may be on medium) to 1500 (for high to best graphics). Any higher than that then you're buying pre-made, which is stupid unless it comes from certain sites that build computers the way you want them, or you're trying to put all of the best hardware into one system.

If you can handle New Vegas, you should be able to handle Skrim, that's my guess, at least.

Either way, you could always customize the graphic settings to play on your rig.

$900 - $1500 would be a price I'd expect to see for a premade, not one you'd build yourself. For ~$600 you can build a kick-ass rig.

Mine was $1000. I went little overboard with the moniter, speakers, and video card.

Edit: I saw your new vegas exorcist. Its used in http://pc.gamezone.com/editorials/item/five_things_we_want_from_the_elder_scrolls_v_skyrim/.

it really wont at this point computers are a lot better than consoles so it shouldn't take a super computer, my computer cost about 500 to upgrade in order to play games like black ops, so I dont think it will be a problem
Geforce 8800 (don't know that ATA equivalent) seems to be the stopping point for graphics requirements so as long as you have that it shouldn't be so bad

Just get your current computer's athletics skill up, and it'll be able to run anything. :D

*crosses fingers* I'm really hoping that's the case sincs right now I don't have the money for a new computer. I do have an Xbox 360 so that version is an option, but my preferred platform for playing Elder Scrolls games is the PC, so I would only get the 360 version as a last resort.

Bethesda has always been pretty good with technology and optimizing it for the PC.

We know that skyrim will be on current generation platforms so you can bet you'll be able to run the game on minimal settings if your computer is equivalent to that of a 360 or PS3.

I'm not talking about the price for monitor, speakers, etc. Just the PC itself. If you shop smart and wait for some sales, you can build a beast of a PC for ~$600.

And that's pretty sweet about the video. Is that a popular site? :)

If it runs better on the 360 then it should run better on a PC that could run Oblivion also.

Bethesda is terrible for optimizing for the PC. Off the top of my head, Oblivion is actually the worst recent title I can actually think of in this regard.

If your playing any game with console settings and resolution unless its just a crap port PC hardware will run it just fine. Hardware that was midrange 2-3 years ago. The screens dont even look like it would need a high end PC to run across 3 monitors. Let alone on one screen with medium or low settings.

Mine cost me $4500 but mines an m17x laptop and it will be able to play every game made in the next 5-6 years on highest detail.

Of course it doesn't look like it needs a high end PC to run it on high details in the screen shots because they are low resolution, resized screenshots. If you have the GI issue with Crysis in it, compare the two screens. The Skyrim one looks just as good if not a little better than the Crysis screen.

It may be compressed but lighting techniques, poly count all that still show. Not to mention its console screes which an 8800 from 2007 could do without blinking. Game wont even look close to Crysis on consoles of course not. On PC maybe but Im sure at highest settings.

Considering the "Very Low" graphics option in Oblivion, you should have no problem playing the game. It depends on how pretty you want it to look. I'm sure there will also be plenty of mods that will push it to it's graphical limits.

Bad news if your spending 900-1500 on a computer you built....
