I hope the new survival mode will be for all difficulties

It sounds amazing, but I really don't want to deal with the bullet sponges that make up the highest difficulties...

Same here but I think the most sensible solution is to have the survival options available in all difficulties, plus a survival difficulty with the new settings fixed. Personally all I want is to need to eat, drink & sleep. I'm even waiting for the official update to see whether I use it or just add a survival mod, i'd much rather just chose some of the official settings in my current game.

It changes the damage calculations so that everything takes and receives more damage. It won't be bullet spongey, the damage ratios will change to do the exact opposite.

No, just no. I don't want to have to drink or eat and if I wanted that in my game, I could easily do it now. So no, just no.

I think the suggestion hinges on availability of the survival options, not an imposition of them across all difficulty settings.

They may also change health, weapon, and armor values. Don't know if they will but it would be an easy enough thing for them to do.

If the OP wants it like NV, fine. I turned it off in my game.

I played survival mode in FNOV, which was to me the best way to play. It did not increase (to my knowledge) the combat difficulty over the "normal" setting. It basically demanded that you eat/hydrate/sleep within a given time frame, which to me, is survival in the wilderness or a hostile world. At the end of the game you got an achievement for completing the game in survival mode if you never opted out during your game play. It did not affect combat. It did not affect when you could save. This is how it should be.

Exactly. I'd like the OPTION for all difficulties... nothing set that is mandatory.

It all points to it almost certainly replacing survival difficulty. Unless they made a radical change since the "leaked" information. But atleast (as mentioned) the damage calculation are redone, so no bullet sponges. Hopefully.

I personally think Bethesda should introduce a custom difficulty setting. Choosing this option would then allow the player to set their preferred difficulty using a combination of toggles/sliders/ numeric inputs.

No sliders or toggles, just one mode that replaces current Survival mode, be brave.

From what I've heard as well, it is only replacing the survival difficulty that is in place which imo is the best for all worlds. I suppose I could see why someone would want to play on Easy or Normal and still have that option but if your gonna play hardcoe...well hard is in the title.

I was hoping for toggleable "hardcoe" mode like NV, but I'll live if it's just a survival difficulty tweak.

It sounds like the Adrenaline perk will fix any sponginess.

only for this mode so it's really no different to what we have now except enemies and player dies easier, which is silly because enemies are already easy.

It's not about being brave. There's nothing scary about the mode, NOTHING. It's the same as the normal game with some new additions. I want the save options toggleable for me because console gamers do not have console commands like PC gamers

I hope not, should be an entire different mode not difficulty based.

The hidden info in the game-files describe how to enable the new survival mode which is the same way you would activate the current survival mode.. I doubt they'll change it. I mean it also overhauls the damage calculations it's not like NV's hardcoe mod. The new survival mode touches what other difficulty settings touches. Unless they provide toggles for everything and if you choose to toggle the new survival modes damage calculations it overwrites your current difficulty damage calculations.

I'm all for as much options and freedoms for the player as possible, so I could always hope for it.. but I doubt it.

if the "new" survival mode is just a substitute to the current one, in the way it is proposed now, this game is dead for me.

playing with the complete new ruleset would bore me to death.

switching back to an easier mode would have the same effect.

good thing is: i never got me the season pack for DLC ;)

My understanding is that the new survival mode will be a free update. So wouldn't you have to stop getting all future patches to avoid it?

sure, i could block updates. even with the "forced upon me" updates by steam i would know how to block them (i worked in IT networking for 20 years, i know how to make a host believing he has connection while he can't get anything on my rig).

but if i have to do this, the whole game is a failure for me.

I think regardless of where people sit on what features it has, this is one thing we can all agree on B)

not only that.

i know for sure that some people would like some of the new features without selecting survival difficulty.

my wife for example... she plays any game completely different than me.

she's more rpg, surely would like some of the new features.

but she doesn't like fighting so much... avoiding it is another gamestyle.

if the "new" survival mode is just a replacment for the existing one, she'll never benefit from it.

and there is me. completely different gamestyle, and still i won't get any befefit from it if it's just replacing the current survival.

lose/lose situaion here.

Don't fear, judging by your comment above about steam I presume you're on PC. I'm sure there will be plenty of option in the form of mods for you to tailor your gameplay experience, specially so when the geck is released in april. It might not be optimal relying on mods to give you the game you want but atleast it's great that bethesdas games are so open for modding. So don't give up on Fallout 4 yet, both of you :)

It's not always possible to please every player and their playstyles but in this instance I must say the best choice they can make is to go for toggles and player customization. Even if it would mean much more work and longer development. I guess they wanted to focus on a complete overhaul of the difficulty instead of stacking a few new features on top. Still we don't know for certain, they might have changed their approach.

I'm one of the lucky ones though. I want a harder game but not the way they made it hard with the current survival (it seems to upset some people but yes I call it bullet-sponges - and I don't like it). I also want more rpg aspects and things such hunger, thirst, diseases etc. suits me perfectly. So most things in this update is to my liking. I imagine it must svck for those who were actually enjoying the current survival mode though, since it seems as it will be nothing like it.
