I'm hoping that any type of crafting skill is worthwile

Post » Fri Apr 15, 2011 6:04 am

I'm not saying that I want any crafting system to be huge and intricate in Skyrim, but I want them to be useful.

I don't want to waste my time making something only to have it replaced next time I enter a dungeon.

What are your guys hopes/thoughts about this.

I hope that a crafting system will allow us to create unique items that have gameplay value as well as in game economic value. It would be cool to be able to create items that have better effects than the generic stuff that we find in dungeons. I do think that legendary items (such as Umbra) should still be the most powerful items available, but hopefully the crafting system will allow us to create some pretty sweet stuff at high levels.

Most of all though I am hoping that I can cook ingredients to alter alchemical effects.

They should look at the FF14 crafting system, and NOT do any of that.

Take is as a "DO NOT DO" list.

I hope it is fun and rewarding. As in, I can quickly get in and out of crafting, and have a fun time playing a smith for a bit if i want to.

I would love to find old ore lists for special weapons and go out and find some super rare ores to make new weapons. Then it would also be cool to be able to upgrade any weapon by getting more of those rare ores.

I think it is possible the only craft that is going to get a skill is smithing and the other crafting will just be present as mechanics without related skills. They will have their owns rewards but will not be skill based.

My hope is that at a low level you can barely match up to what the stores have to offer and at a high level you can make something that owns anything else you'll find :toughninja:

I hope the raw materials has a lot of variety when it comes to quality as well. You have to find good materials to make good weapons!! And you should use some time smithing to even make the smallest things :flamethrower: , I want smithing to be complex, not a simple drag and click on ingredients kinda thing :meh:

Well, this is like many other features, if it's implementation is not satisfying it can be moded. The important thing is to have the feature.

I agree whole heartedly. It would go very well with a hard core mode, especially if you could use natural elements to say, skin animals, make a tent and some clothes and fashion a bow and arrow or something.

The empire has fallen. The nords are at civil war. Anywhere is anarchy. Sole places have kept a bit of feudalism.

The economy status of the whole Tamriel is at the pit bottom, especially at Skyrim with the civil war going hot.

Every item that you loot, is ragged, tattered, rusty, damaged, and generally worthless.

The few better items that you loot off the bosses and ring leaders and their stashes are far between, and you are growing, and require better items.

It is time that you do it yourself and learn the tricks to make better items from the remains of those old pieces of arts found here and there.

Since there are only 18 skills vs. Oblivion's 21, either we lose more than 4 skills, or the crafting is as you suggest, or perhaps linked to other skills.

Pretty sure we're losing heavy armor, light armor, mysticism, blade, blunt and either mercantile or speechcraft, while gaining one-handed, two handed with a remote chance of gaining some sort of a generic armor/armoring skill.

Crafting armor and one-handed or two-handed weapons could be linked to the appropriate combat skill. I have no idea what would govern the effectiveness of cooking, which has been confirmed.

I'm sure it will be useful. Starting with Oblivion, Bethesda has made sure to not to include useless skills.

some sort of a generic armor/armoring skill.

Unless you can think of another skill that starts with the letters "smi", smithing is all but confirmed.

Although the plot of The Infernal City suggests an association between alchemy and gastronomy, personally I don't see it.

I hope there will be some sort of survival skill related to cooking/drinking/eating/sleep deprivation.

It would be cool if the smithing was kinda related to DM, but more satisfying. Like it takes time to actually make the item. And you could effect the hardness of the sword for example, by changing the temp of the furnace. Also find ore for different kinds of material.

For smithing I would like to, say put iron ore into the crafting place and play a minigame and depending on how well you do it will come out as rusty, plain iron, fine iron, hardened iron, and perfect iron. And of course the best quality is perfect and the worst is rusty. but i think this would make smithing fun if they did something like this and if they made the minigame challenging it would be even more fun.!!! Remember its just an idea
