The Horkers in Skyrim aren't actually the same as those in Solstheim - the Nords just call any type of seal-like animal "Horker."

Well, I mean, what else would you call them? They hork, don't they? That makes 'em Horkers.

Really try to not think about how things were in previous games when in Skyrim. The inconsistencies will bury you quite quickly.

Dwemer stuff being commonplace and treated like everyday findings is something I found odd. Not so in Morrowind. Is there any evidence ANYWHERE that the Nords show any interest in Dwemer ruins? Like at all? I remember nothing or I just have not encountered it yet maybe. But seems off that they don't even acknowledge the wealth of technology that is present in those ruins. I swear the over all view is...meh just dwemer. Even in Markarth there is only an Altmer researcher really interested in the ruins. There is hardly a whisper anywhere else. They really tried to paint the Nords as ignorant in Skyrim imo. Why would the Dunmer and Imperials have expeditions and such in Morrowind investigating the ruins but nothing in Skyrim. Disappointing imo.

Remember when all the Horkers died in Bloodmoon? That was Hircine cursing them with his essence. Now by the time of Skyrim, the survivors have changed from being passive towards those who aren't a prey or threat to being extremely territorial, just like Hircine likes them.

Doncha know big guys can't think, dur dur dur. I mean, the head of the Bardic college of Skyrim is an Altmer, and the Dean of Skyrim history is a Breton.

Well, seeing that the Nords are very proud of their ancestors and such.. Well, why should they really care about Dwemer? I was thinking the same thing as you, but then I thought "Well to a 'true' Nord (and there are some in Skyrim that show interest in the ruins, but only a few) if it's not of their own, it's nothing important to them."

As for there not being expeditions, yeah I'd suppose it is a bit off. But I just use the logic that "Stormcloaks are driving them away" or "They've been explored already". Seeing that many of the ruins are close to civilizations, and also there are definite signs of exploring in the ruins.

Well, according to another thread the horkers are responsible for Winterhold's falling into the sea.

Horkers are migratory beasts, being native to the northern coasts of Skyrim and traveling to Solstheim to find mates. As such, when encountered in Skyrim, Horkers are all the more likely to be territorial: note that they will not hunt passers-by as other pugnacious beasts might. It might be fair to say that Skyrim Horkers are not more aggressive but rather defensive than their Solstheim counterparts.

Then again everything in Skyrim is on steroids. The bears, the horkers, the werewolves even. Not a surpirse since the land if full of Nordic bravado.
