Horned Helms Just so you know

The horned helmet better distinguishes the culture of the Nords from the culture of the Imperials, so calm down OP.

Yeah, it bugs me aswell, I just hope there are some better looking helmets. And then again I'm more of a hood, or no head gear type of person anyways.

Stop being so pretentious. He never complained about your "history lesson". You are the one who can't handle a simple argument without reverting to insults.

Hey man just because we have no real evidence of them wearing horns on their helmets doesn't mean they never did. The legend had to come from somewhere, even if it was just from one big dumb viking whose buddies talked him into wearing goat horns on his head.

This guy wore a skull on his face. http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e35/wookilar8/vid131.jpg. None of his troops did.

In Skyrim, you are a unique character. Are bandits and fighters guild members going to be wearing the Dovakiin helm? I doubt it.

You are not a common soldier. You are a beastly dragon killer. You are the worlds last hope. You are the biggest badass on the block. And you make sure everyone knows it.

In the end, that helm can be meant to instill fear and apprehension in your opponent.

At least, that's how I would justify wearing it on earth.

The "Dovahkiin helmet" isn't special, it's standard Nord steel or iron gear.

Then everyone gets horns.

How do you know this, by the way? I've never seen a screenshot with an NPC wearing it.

Well just something that has bothered me being of norse lines, the horned helms... dont get me wrong i love them in Skyrim and will be using them since nords arent really norse just based off them, but to say they are norse is idiotic, i suppose not so idiotic sense this is a common error in movies and tv shows. Norseman did not have horns on their helms this is something hollywood has made up.\ just so you all know just bothers me for some how. with that aside They look pretty sweet and i love the new look of the armour sets.

To be honest, a lot of warriors from all cultures over the history of mankind have made weapons and armor from animals. I wouldn't say that a norse has never done this. None of use were alive to know and there was no cameras back then to prove it. I do feel you on the Hollywood culture overriding peoples knowledge of the actual culture. I am Alaskan, and I get tired of people thinking I was an Eskimo... and that they actually thought I had lived in an igloo. This isn't just a norse thing.... It is a stereotype thing.

I disagree.

They may be special in the game.. but as looks are concerned... seen it before, several times. Some pointing up, some down. Like vamps and werewolves... that story has been played out.

I couldn't careless. The 13 Warrior is arguably one of the most historically inaccurate movies ever made but that takes nothing away from the film. It's definitely one of my favorite movies of all time. I've seen it more than 50 times and it's good every single time.

I love the way Bethesda takes influences from all over human civilization, throws into the blender and flings the contents to all four corners of Nirn.

The developers probably couldn't come up with anything original, so they just used the cliche Norse horned helmet.

Thanks for the update man ill write that down, they are based off of the norse though genius, sorry u cant handle a history lesson

I'm confused. Are you really having trouble understanding why it doesn't matter, or are you being facetious...?

True, they're inspired strongly by Norse culture. But they're Nords. They're not from Earth.

I agree, it's silly that people think that Norseman used to wear horns on their helmets. They didn't, that's a historical fact, we can move on.

But in TES, the Nords can wear whatever the hell they want.

The Ottomans didn't dress like the Redguards do, and the Romans didn't dress like the Imperials do. Why? Because they're not the same thing.

That's...that's really all there is to it.

They used horned helmets in rituals too praise fertility etc. Not every day.

But yeah, this is a game. Not real life.

Most of them wouldn't have had helmets at all, just something fashioned out of leather. Helmets were expensive kit.

The Teutonic knights had some pretty imposing horned helmets. I think they're depicted in the Maciejowski Bible, or somewhere similar.

But yeah, the devs have obviously gone for the fantasy Conan look rather than anything historically accurate. As the game is set on Nirn with magic and monsters, and not Earth, that's perfectly fine.
