I am a horrbible father and dont care about my son :(

Hi there!

*Minor spoiler maybe?*

I always liked Fallout because I felt you can play it as you want. Now I have a voice that is... I dont know I kust dont like it at all. Feels bland and just absolutely not as I imagine I would sound in a post apocalyptic wasteland. No problem, "mute character" mod saves the day.

Bigger problem to me is that family story thing. I absolutely hate that my superior goal is to rescue my son... dont want a son, dont care where he is and what hes doing. Did not like the whole family intro thing which is totally fine since this is fallout and i can go my own way right. Well now a have arrived the first time in diamond city. At the very entrance there are several NPC that will not properly communicate with you when you dont tell them what your goal is / who you are looking for. From 4 answer options 3 state basically "Im looking for my son". The forth option is to stay silent, which will end the dialog. Come ooon, now I feel like that i can never loose that soncrap and it will haunt me throughout the game and that does absolutely not feel free or immersive. To ME (only in my opinion) this feels like complete [censored] and ruins a good part of the fun. I would rather completely disable the main story line and if there was a mod that would do that it would be great but I guess the whole son-thing is so deeply rooted in the game that it will be hard to remove?

I guess there will be no easy fix for this? At least I had the chance to give you my honest opinion here :)

And if you like the son-thing, no probs good for you, as I said all above is just MY OPINION :)

Now I feel bad and want to note some positive things too: ;)

- The whole scrap/base/crafting is amazing

- The TAA antialiasing combined with a lumasharpen sweetfx preset is doing a great job

- Rare mobs are a good thing

- Contrary to earlier concerns I like the dog ;)

- I love Bethedsa for making games so mod friendly

- Some textures do look really bad and there could be some more polygons... uh positive... I MEAN THE GAME LOOKS GREAT AT MEDIUM DISTANCE^^

PS: No native speaker i hope i picked the right words

Yea i do understand your concerns here.

While i'm currently still on the main quest and enjoying it, after a few playthroughs i'd love to have

an alternate start mod where i'm not from pre-war and actually an inhabitant in the wasteland.

I guess a mod would be what you need. And if you're playing on console, you're out of luck i guess.

I don't think consoles can handle such a mod due to its massive scripting.

I made an earlier thread about how Alternate Start Mod is gonna be done due to the nature of the main quest.

I must say...other then completely abandoning the main quest, I really have no idea how such a mod

would be able to somehow tie up to it.

Thx for your reply. I am at a point at the moment where i could either ignore the whole thing or just do it. Guess ill do it since i dont like that "uncomplete" feeling and feel like ignoring it throughout the game will be difficult and frustrating.

A thing that just came to my mind: Lets change the model of the son to a special modded mininuke and replace the word "son" with the word "awesome mini nuke" in the game files. Damn voiceovers ruin this plan though ;)

Just like Skyrim; it looks great! If you don't look too close. Or too far  (Though distant LOD is improved too, BTW).

Can't really comment on topic, i still haven't properly started the main quest line

Well, a game's got to have a story.

It's not like it's the focus of the game. With Beth, story has always been incidental.

I actually wanted to find my son really bad but I'm at a point in the quest now where I need to do some of the side quests to get help finding my son so now I'm really off track lol

My character wants to find his son, but retains enough sense to know he was frozen between the witnessing of his wife's death and escaping. He has no way of knowing when his son was taken. He's been thawed for almost a month in-game now, and he's still avoiding Diamond City. His zeal to find his son is tempered by the dread that it may no matter in the end. There's no frame of reference between when his son was taken and when he was let out (and that bothers him too...how is it he was released prior to asphyxiation and not anyone else? And what did the guy mean by "backup"? My character, in a very quiet corner of his mind, wonders if his son is dead, and he was awoken as the "backup").

Absolutely. Did you try DynDoLOD? Looks amazing!

I agree but feel that in fallout 4 the main story less incidental as in other bethesda titles. Guess thats a good thing IF you like that main story.

Forget him. You are an adventurer, what use is a child to you? How will you protect it? There are no Powerarmor child suits. Although that would be awesome!!

He just weakens you, let him go

Your post shows another problem (for me) regarding the main quest... What could be more important than getting back your child??? How would you be able to do any sidequest at all and speak so bland and calm or even sleep? I feel that the seriousness of the main story collides heavily with the "here and there" questing approach that usually comes with bethesda games.

Ok enough whine i have a HUD to fix^^

btw the problem with your son would be that he won't recognize and accept you as your father/mother anyway, after growing up without you.

Maybe look at it this way-

The people who took him, said you were their backup plan. So if whatever they do to your son fails, they will come looking for you.

So you may want to find out what's going on purely out of self interest.

It's funny because the Sole Survivor doesn't emote at all.

In the missions where you confront your son's kidnapper.

"WHERE THE **** IS MY SON, YOU BASTARD!?"

I was like...woah!

At first I was iffy on the idea of having a son, but after a bit I discovered my character would do anything to protect and find his son. I personally like it.
