HORRIBLE companion AI... Anything to be done?

Post » Mon Jun 21, 2010 12:01 am

I love how even if you tell the companions to not attack unless YOU are attacking, they wander of towards the first hostile they detect. This is maddening inside buildings. I went into the sarsaparilla HQ and Rex and Cass just started sneaking around all over the place on their own. Ridiculous. Just cause theres a red dot on my damn radar doesnt mean I want my damn companions to go sneaking off trying to kill it.

it's worked better than fallout 3's did but yes i wish they wouldn't always just run off and attack things but at least they can handle themselves

Rofl... I remember challenging myself to see if I could complete the game with Dogmeat at my side WITHOUT him getting killed - and that dog was DETERMINED to go sprinting halfway across the wasteland after a yao gui or some other Big Baddie that I couldn't even see yet.

Since I'm a hardcoe mode player, I'm likely going to do the same with Rex. I will admit, though, that if they are absolutely intent of committing suicide, I might get a little frustrated.

Sneaking usually stops them from doing that.

Yeah "passive" mode could certainly be a bit more... passive. Had one of my companions run up 2 flights of stairs and around a corner to get at a ghoul...while in passive mode.

My only thing that i wish we had with companions would be if a small "c" could be shown when we go on to the world map.... because i keep forgetting where i leave them half the time

I think we may be playing different games then.

I've only had Cass freak out once. I was sneaking and stuck on Caution (no pips on radar) and Cass sneaked around the entire vault blasting mantises and rats.

Edit: She has a really nice ass.

They are, oh are they ever.
It doesn't help that they're pretty much magnets as well. 99% of the time whatever it is that we're engaging in is just going to ignore me and go straight after Glass and Wreck.

I mean Cass and Rex.

Passive prevents them from attacking things that they detect that don't detect them.

It doesn't prevent them from attacking things that they detect that do detect them. That is considered self defense by the game.

The way that sneaking helps is it makes all of you less likely to be detected, therefore your companions are less likely to run off.

Any time you sneak and see "Caution" appear, it's extremely likely your companions are about to run off.

Completely false, they do indeed sneak up on and attack things that are RED and in an entirely OTHER room or even another FLOOR, and yes they are indeed set to passive.
