Horrible

I cannot [censored] believe I paid for this stupid game. How can call a game a fallout game and you dont put skills in it. You dumbed down the UI for console support. [censored] it I can mod it. But skills for gods sake. It is an essential part of the game. As long as I have high Agi I can be a ninja and marksman, tumbler, thief. You are smart you can do a nuclear physicist with a few perks and whatnot.

This is dumping down beyond measure. You are a PC games company for gods sake. What is wrong with you?

Even though I wouldn't have used so strong wording, I agree with much what the OP is pointing to. Not an Obsidian fan per se; but an RPG player. And Bethesda is pulling a "mass effect"-stunt by removing or dumbing down more and more of the rpg aspects of the game. Not happy!

Well, I do miss the item condition and degradation. I miss that aspect very much.

most skill points were used to get perks. sure did more damage with higher skill points. but did mega damage with lower skill with some weapons. so i don't have a problem with usage of skills being gone.

though it is possible that there will be a mod to put skills back in the game.

I feel the same, and a lot of stuff feels clunky for PC (UI wise), never mind that they remapped a bunch of keys. Kept trying to hit v for vats, ended up re-binding to make it feel more natural.

Well, Beth has been stripping rpg elements since Morrowind so this shouldn't be a surprise. Skyrim also had its share of complaints when Beth eliminated attributes and classes.

I agree. I miss degradation, the reputation/karma system and FNV's dialog options and skill checks as well. Saying that those who miss these things are Obsidian fans is ridiculous... Skills were around since FO1. Perks were something extra and with skills your character could gradually become better little by little at what you wanted.

At this rate Fallout 6 will be a pure FPS....

Really don't see how you could possibly associate that to the OP's rant unless you have some silly generalization of people who like RPGs by Obsidian just because you didn't like NV or whatever.

I think the removal of skills will largely work in the game's favour. There was a good article a while back that explained their reasoning behind the Skill/Perk changes https://bethesda.net/#en/events/game/fallout-4s-character-system/2015/09/24/31.

EDIT: Yeah, sofa/TV centric UI's are always a disappointment when you're sitting at a desk - but yeah, I expect we'll see a mod for that.

I agree with most things people are saying against the game, but I will say this:

I'm glad karma is gone.

I know anyone whose played Fallout for a long time will get angry at me for saying that but hear me out:

Morality is extremely difficult to handle in video games. There's always gonna be wiggle room or gray area and the game can't account for the motivation behind your actions.

I would have prefered karma to be reworked. For it to work more like a reputation system for each faction where you can have positive karma with the institute, but negative karma with the railroad etc. I ALWAYS prefer games to improve upon existing systems rather than remove them, but honestly in this case I'm fine with it just not existing anymore. Even Obsidian more or less gave up on karma in New Vegas.

No problems here. Skills have been replaced by perks, and now you must design your character around the perks that you want. I thought the old system was quite boring and could use an overhaul. Wasn't a big fan of Skyrim's astrology perk trees either. I like the idea of high level perks being available right from the start, but the next rank has high lvl req.

Sort of a pointless complaint. The skill points seem to be mimicked by special skills and the perks. For example, stealth being based on agility *and* up to 4 or 5 levels of a sneak perk. Broken down its a more complicated 25/50/75/100 + agility to factor in stealth effectiveness. That seems a hell of a lot more in depth then the previous games. Added to that, a very limited pool of special points, you have to be far more focused in your early build.

I agree... This game is a horrible disappointment. I'm so sick of getting dumbed down products so they can support consoles. Fed up with this.

Klunky interface. Can't get UHD to work in windowed mode.

I really regret buying this on day 1 and not waiting until I've read the forums.... I've moved away from pre-ordering and day 1 purchases but I made an exception because I never thought Fallout 4 would be this bad.

Mouse action is horribly erratic, klunky and unusable. I play 13 other games on this rig with zero issues, which is comprised of the most common components out there.

Does Bethesda offer refunds anyone know?

As a whole, I still feel positive towards FO4, but...

1] I am missing the lack of some RPG elements. I'm only at level 4 [...close to 5] and am holding a perk just in case it becomes obvious where to put it.

2] I'm also put off by the pacing. Being put upon by NPCs in need so soon into the game has me feeling the need to be tied to that one local more when I really just want to wander 10-15 hours before doing very much of anything. Plus being given power armor so early makes me worried about going anywhere without it, but it is too damaged to take anywhere.

The game is a delight.

I'm glad the obsolete crappy features have been removed.

Just coming up on 6 hours play time and I think I'm ready to leave Sanctuary Hills for the first time. B)

Less special points is certainly good. But don't make it seem like it's some kind of a deep system. Agility affected sneaking before. It would be much better if skills were around without level requirements and more gradual development while these additional bonuses were taken as perks like in previous fallouts. And traits? Where are traits?
