Horse Confirmed....

Post » Wed Feb 02, 2011 1:11 am

Whilst watching the trailer for the 10th time, I noticed in the shot with the windmill (1:20 - 1:22) you can see a horse on the left side of the windmill. I saw a topic on the forums saying horses arent in skyrim, well I just layed a big steamy brick on your topic.

skip along the video to about 1:19, pause the video when you see the windmil and look at the bottom left of the windmill. A horse! and its got a saddle. So yes, horses are in and you can obviously mount them

This is true I saw it but the question now becomes

Can we ride them? just because you see a mount doesnt mean we get to ride them.

I know that we havnt seen any footage of you riding a horse. But why would bethesda put a horse in thier game, put a mount in it and not let us use it. They did it in oblivion. It would be like putting a sword on the ground and not letting us use that sword

Not only that, but they even put a saddle on it. If that isn't an indicator of some sort then I don't know what is.

I know that, and I'll say that its very likely that we are riding horses.

But I am still taking "I'll believe it when I see it" stance.

It would make no sense to add horses if you can't ride them, especially since we were able to ride them in Oblivion. Otherwise they'd have added pack mules instead.

To clarify for those that indeed missed one of the interviews (I don't remember which one, probably the game informer show): Last time I heard, they were still working on mounts and weren't satisfied yet with what they had at that point, but that they're still trying to make it work.

It would seem logical that there are 'mounts' in the sense that they are present but may still have shoddy animations or whatever the problems they're working on are. This does not guarantee or confirm mounts as there might still be a possibility that they decide that they failed in making the mounts the way they want and scratch them from the final version.

Hey now, no need to be inflammatory towards each other!

Everyone's just excited and it's not always easy to tell exactly what will and will not be in the game until it's finished - so let's not jump to conclusions either way.

I couldn't imagine it not having horses. They were so basic in Oblivion, I would have promised even before seeing that trailer that they would have them.

The horse looks cool. Add some saddle bags and it's useful too.

Toddcast.

Anyway, its a meh for me. I usually walk everywhere anyway. If they can hold my stuff I may reconsider, but if its just to move faster I'd rather walk slowly and take everything in.

Todd said that they were still working on horses and hadn't worked out exactly what they would be like or if they would make it into the final cut of the game. He also said that a world without them feels strange. After seeing the video I completely agree that not having horses in Skyrim would seem really weird. So while I'm sure they have plenty of ideas they are testing to see how they work in the game why don't we offer some ideas of our own? Here's mine:

Now that towns have an economy horses should be able to carry packs or pull carts and could be used for transporting goods between towns. Basically you could store a lot more than you could carry by yourself and be able to trade and sell goods in different towns.

You should also be able to buy and sell horses. There would be different types such as cheap weak and slow ones that can't pull a cart but let you carry a little additional stuff and run off if attacked to strong fast ones that you can fight on the backs of and can fight back on their own if attacked, etc.

I dont think there was ever an issue of horses being in the game, just wether or not they could be mounted.

This is true... I think I may go buy a horse, purely to prepare for the game. :D

Oh and guys, if they're ingame, you can ride them. There's NO WAY Bethesda would do that to us. It would be fanbase-political suicide.
