Horse management- how to get them to stop following me?

PRetty sure this is mod related. I have both Buster (Weydan Priory horse) and Shadowmare (Dark Brother horse) following me around, and Shadowmare keeps engaging in combat. I would like to send Buster back to Weydan Priory and make Shadowmare stand still when I'm not riding him. I keep having to reload b/c he's getting himself killed.

I have kuerteehorsecommands.esp in my load order. So my question pertains both to controling them via that mod and via the vanilla methods.

From the ReadMe;

Horse commands
==============
1. Horse command (a Lesser power)
If there are any horses more than 500 units away from the player, the command will be interpreted by all the player's horses as "follow me".
Otherwise, the command will be interpreted as "stay here".
When issued while a horse is targetted (i.e. under the crosshair and inside the activatable range), the player can command the horse to "go to the nearest city", "go home", "be more aggressive (+25)" or "be calm".


Shadowmere is set to be aggressive and will always assist in combat. Try the "be calm" command. He's also set as essential and does not die, he goes unconscious for a minute or two. Unless you have some other mod affecting him.

Hmm, I have both horses right in front of me, and when I select the Horse Command lesser spell, I get no specific options for controlling them. There's just a whistle sound and both horses continue following me. This happens whether I am actually targetting one or not....no specific command options.

If you installed the mod correctly, after you hear the whistle, you should get a menu pop-up with multiple options.

My suggestion, ride one horse (say Buster), dismount, use the spell. Ask Horsey to go home. Ride Shadowmere, dismount, ask Shadowmere to stay.

OK, mod must not be working correctly b/c I am not seeing a menu pop-up w/ these options. Strange, I didn't get any errors when installing of building my bash patch.

Did you mount your horse before trying the spell? Also, do you have the latest version (released a few weeks ago)? That version also makes your horse glow for a moment so that you know which horse is being targeted by the spell...

PS: Building a bashed patch doe not list if you are missing install files. It just indicates missing masters. So that is not the way to tell if you have installed a mod correctly. On the other hand, the BAIN "missing" tab will tell you what you are missing, if you use BAIN.

No, didn't mount the horse before trying it. I have an old version-haven't done any updating of Oblivion or mods in about a year. Will download the latest version.
