HORSES svck

Post » Thu Dec 08, 2011 8:32 pm

I bought, correction, I burned 1000 gold today. This stupid horse, I don't know where it is anymore, if hes even alive. I can't call it to me. It can die. I can't store him at the stables. Why the FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF would you make something so easy to lose and pretty much worthless yet so expensive?!?! Sure, I understand the thought process if fast travel wasn't in the game. BUT IT IS! Horses should not be a useless waste of money. They should be a minor buff after you spend the gold.

Had I known, I would not have bought this, now dead, dumb animal.

Lower the cost to like 400 and I think we are in a better ballpark.
OR
Make them like they are in Red Dead Redemption. Expensive to buy, but if they die there is a timer before you can have it again, death is not permanent. Also, when I press a button I whistle and he will come to me as long as I am outside.

Sure 1000 gold will be pennies later on, but at the beginning, when a horse is actually useful and you can't fast travel everywhere, 1000 gold is a good chunk of change.

You might be right about not getting the same horse back. I always did because I had preorder bonus with the black horse. That thing was nasty. Or was it that when it died, you just got a crappy one for awhile. The good horse eventually came back. Its not like the deed for the horse was removed from your inventory when he died. I think.

I am here to spread joy and peace. If your horse has died, go back to the stables from which you bought it. It's probably going to be chillin' out in those stables like nothing ever happened! (Immortal Horses ftw)

You know why MY problem is with horses? They're so bleeding heroic. I don't want my horse to charge headlong into that dragon's stream of fire. Stop it. That's my job. You are not Dovahkiin, you are his beast of burden!

Good eye. Not many people correctly identify who that is.

I just steal my horses.

Yeah horses should have been handled more like RDR, or even Oblivion. You should be able to call your horse, and it should be stabled outside of every city you visit.

if you spent the money on a horse deed (the only way to actually buy horses) you could always use it to bring that horse back, no matter what happened to it. only those you wrangled in the wild were dead for good.

but yeah, they really need to learn more about horses from RDR than animations. you know how horses in RDR didnt try to stupidly trample every hostile thing in a 200ft radius the moment you dismounted? how you they would kindly not run in your face and push you all over the place? how you could whistle for them anywhere instead of having to trek across the land looking for wherever it wandered off to? those kinds of things.

You fell for the horse scam. As soon as I stole my first horse and realized I could practically WALK faster than a horse RUNNING, I never bothered. Actually, I never bought a horse in any game, I just stole them lol.

This makes me feel somewhat better. But the tracking and lack of summoning issues have to much of an impact on horse utility to make them worth it. Especially late game when you can fast travel everywhere. Make a horse whistle that costs another thousand gold. I don't know, it feels like they could have spit balled here a bit more.

I guess you're playing on an xbox then?

I set my horse to be immortal and I teleport him to me whenever I want, I also got a mod that makes it go 1.5 times faster from the nexus

A certain horse that has returned to Skyrim died from a 5 foot fall when chasing a dragon I was fighting. Strong wtf moment.

Simple reason why horse's are rubbish, it's so Bethesda can justify Horse Armour DLC.

Don't know where you got this info from, but it doesn't work. My waste of 1000 gold died while it tried to run off and fight a Frost Troll, i've been going past Whiterun stables ever since and it's never re-spawned. I speak to the vendor and he only offers me to buy a new one, and the only horse that's there requires me to steal it. Pretty pathetic actually since I thought in Oblivion at least a dead horse re-spawned after a while (or maybe that was one of my mods?)...

And yeah, 1000 gold svckS for something that's BARELY faster than running and only has one life. At least give it the option to carry equipment, but then knowing this buggy game you'd never see it again... you barely get to hold onto the equipment that you store in your own damn house...

i would use them if the had a 1st person view.

cant stand using them in 3rd person completely breaks immersion for me cant stand the controls for them either. always overcompensates your clicks. hopefully a mod adds 1st person....sigh im getting sick of saying "hopefully a mod"
game is awesome though leaps and bounds above oblivion. but I preferred horses in oblviion, well is used them alot more haven't even used one in skyrim really.

Really? I found them to be incredibly helpful.

They're faster than the player character is (Yes,I've tested this) and not only that-they can climb mountains like it's no one's business.

All you have to do is fast travel and your horse teleports there with you.

That said horses need unlimited sprint, ability to stable them, saddle bags, first person support, and ability to harvest plants and they would be way better. Even Oblivion let you have first person and harvest. They also all seem to be the same speed, where in Oblivion there were various speeds of horses. Unbelievable they dumbed this down.

I skipped daggerfall and morrowind, and rejoined TES with Oblivion, but now I know what the morrowiners are talking about a little bit when they "streamline" stuff and remove things you get used to. I was an avid horse rider in Oblivion, especially with a few mods they were nice. But Skyrim I just walk everywhere because there are so many fights you have to get into going anywhere it's stupid taking a horse. Watch Todd play, lol. There is a good reason he ditched his horse we'd have all noticed the horses think they are dragonborn too and join in the fight and act illogical. Just give them deer AI for craps sake so they flee instead of fight dragons.

Oh well, give me the editor and I'll have them sweet in a couple hours. I love Skyrim... but they need to put some "macro details" into the horses and companions and at least keep up with modded Oblivion.

There's always been a game that's done a WAY better job at handling horses than Bethesda. Two that come to mind are Call of Juarez 1 for the way they handle and RDR for everything.

I consider my day in Skyrim a failure if I don't have at least one horse die on me. The first few times it irked me, now I consider it a point of pride.

I also don't understand why there is no Horseback combat either. Not even Archery? Even Daggerfall could do this... and that was in 96 wasn't it? I miss riding around on my Horse, firing Arrows and casting Levitate... You're telling me a game in 2011 doesn't have really basic features that their OWN PREVIOUS GAMES almost 15 years ago had?
