No horses

Post » Wed Jan 19, 2011 8:51 pm

i must admit i hated horses, i could run faster then horses in the beggining of the game, i never used horses and i tought they look stupid and unrealistic, i've downloaded a mod taking out every horse from the game, now horses are unique and only imperials legions may use it, thats much better! no more black horse courier running around

Todd said he was playing Red Dead Redemption a lot, and the horses in that game were incredible. Would be awesome if horses like that could be implemented with this new Creation Engine.

Well horses were made quite good actually IMO. For the animation and visual part. As for usefulness,as I said - remove fast travel, you'll start liking horses really fast.

Horses weren't necessarily useless because.of fast travel imo, I think horses were useless because most characters could be made faster than virtually every horse in the game. Add that to the fact that you can't attack while on horseback and imo it was just better to run.

Idk if horses will make a return, but some kind of mount prolly will.

I HATE horses. I wish to never see horses return in any Elder Scrolls game. Such unaesthetic and utterly stupid creatures.

M'aiq is gonna be real sad if there aren't any horses, after all they ARE his favorite meal, with a good cream sauce.

If there is horses in Skyrim, I will probably be disappointed in them, because I'm spoiled by the horses in RDR.
So I hope they left them out.

I definatley want horses. Most of my characters (not all) bought a horse in Oblivion.
They are good companions, and I would always defend them against attacks.
I remember most were all ecstatic when we saw horses for the first time in the Oblivion trailers

I wouldn't mind if they left horses out. The only horse I ever used was Shadowmere, and even then after about half an hour even that became annoying.

I got most everywhere on my own two feet, so I don't think horses are necessary.

Yes, if you play a vampire count or an archmage (or a japanese schoolgirl for that matter), then traveling on horseback would not fit the character. But there are those of us who play as knights and adventurers, who feel that having mount is a big addition to the role playing expirience. Although I never heard you could outrun the horses with a level 1 character.

Todd Howard said they are experimenting with the horse. He doesn't want the to feel like a jeep when being used so they don't know yet

Forget horses, how 'bout ridable caribou?

Failing that, hopefully we'll get breeds of horses fitting to mountainous terrain.

Gimme horses that can take me out of a hectic situation. There could be "mountain goats" in the game (although not mountable of course), but the horses should *NOT* feel like a frigging mountain goat again. So just fix the "sliding physics" of player and mount, and I could care less if it feels like a freight train or a giant rat. The seller for me is being able to get out of the mess I put ourselves into... :) Also I wouldn't have done a non fast travel game without them, with a non magic based slow character. Brute force at maximum difficulty didn't seem to help much against many of the heavier foes, although the silly "follow mechanic" did cost me a few horses.

the horses felt too stiff and "motorized" according to him. Besides that, they weren't really all that helpful (in my experience) fast travel made they obsolete, and they could be hard to work with going cross country at full speed, when you could do it yourself. They were also a little annoying when something attacked you (especially when playing with a game like mine where everything is buffed up) and you had to take several blows before getting down.

I agree, part of having horses is not because they "felt" right but that they got you from point a to b faster and they helped get you out of sticky situations. I don't care if horses feel like battle jeeps or like real animals, give me a horse and I will be happy. Though bonus points if you can make them better, but I would rather have a Oblivion horse then no horse at all.

Todd Howard mentioned horses in one of those "behind the scenes" videos that were on gameinfomer.com. He said if he did them, he wants it to be much more fluent and natural feeling.

Peasants ride horses.

Heroes ride mammoths, woolly rhinos, wolves, massive boars, giant spiders, giant rats, bears, wyverns and dinosaurs.

No one would make fun of "mount armour" DLC if it gave you daedric scale barding for your frickin' Tyrannosaurus rex..!

But seriously, I'd like there to be horses, and several other varieties of mount in the game. I don't even mind if my character can't fight from horseback or monsterback, as long as he or she can gallop through the tundra with the wind in his or her hair. Mounted archery would be nice, though. Please?

Doesn't seem to be much indication either way yet, though. At least if they're one of those things that don't quite make it in, there's a chance that expansions or DLC might still add them.

This! Red Dead Redemption absolutely nailed the horse mechanics and animation. If Skyrim has horses like that, they will be great and fun to have.

Horses are more practical than a spear anyway, I wouldn't mind a different kind of mount as well, http://static.guim.co.uk/sys-images/Technology/Pix/pictures/2007/12/21/goldencompass.article.jpg anyone?

:o That looks awesome.

I liked horses in oblivion, did not mind that they had no mounted combat either.
Not being able to cast spells on self however did bug me.

Don't forget with horse's comes the chance of more armour options.
