Hostile Khans at Red Rock Canyon?

So in this playthrough I decided to go to Red Rock Canyon before the main quest takes me there (for once), and all is fine, until I near the end of the canyon, where the beatdown arena is, and the (three or four) Khans in the beatdown arena (including Jerry the Punk) turn up on my compass as hostile. If I keep approaching, they attack me, drawing in every other Khan in the valley who had been friendly before to shoot at me.

Through testing I've been able to determine that what I wear doesn't make a difference. I also do not have any companions in tow.

I don't know what's happening. I'm trying to recall if I've done anything to piss the Khans off so far. I've
Spoiler
- not shot at any Khan
- negotiated and spoke up for the Khans in Boulder City
- stealth-murdered half of the Vault 3 fiends (didn't get to Motor-Runner because I became overencumbered and turned back)
- done a bunch of the Contreras errands, but not the one with the ranger
I'm also Liked by the NCR and Accepted by the Khans. This is all I can think of having done that might be even tangentially related to the Khans.

Anyone know what the problem is? Should I just cap the hostile Khans silently so that they don't turn the rest against me? I don't want to kill Jerry unless I absolutely have to, I have a soft spot for that absurd artistic soul. Should I return only when the main quest needs me to?

Unsure if this is actually a bug, so I've put this thread here.

EDIT: Yep, if I kill all the hostile ones silently, the other Khans stay friendly.
