Hosting own servers, why so complicated?

Post » Mon Dec 12, 2011 9:51 pm

I really really wanted to host my own servers, but why does it have to be so damn complicated with crysis 2, why all this editing code, editing files and downloading programs to read these files, why can't it just be like it was on Crysis wars, rember that button that said 'create game' and then that would give you a list of all the options you would need, from level roatation to how much time in each match or how meny kills to win... so on and so forth...

So how come we can't just have somthing like that patched into Crysis 2, it's not like crytek don't know how to do it.

This is what I'm on about for those of you who don't know,

I mean who else agrees? some of us don't want to prove how geeky we are, we just want to play a game, I'm sure after a couple of hours of 'effing and blinding' and mabye a reinstall of Crysis 2 I might work it out... but really, just patch the menu into the game, please.

I don't want to seem like I'm not grateful for the Server tool, I really am, and thank you very much Crytek, but please give a simple alternative to hosting servers.

I use Ubuntu aswell as windows, but not as much, I mean I really can't be doing with all the config stuff, I mean I can sit down and learn it, but my point is why go though that when it could be so much easier to do.

and yeah, apple, hate that company way to much :L

do many people actually play on un ranked servers. i thought the idea was to build your score up to gain xp points.

likewise, but i kinda knew it would only be unranked, too meny players would abuse having a ranked server to boost themselves up a bit, although I can't really see how that can now be done with the update to stop players form relay boosting... well anyway, it's still fun to host games on the levels you want with the players you want. :)

How do you host your own games in C2 MP on PC?
Can't find it... I am sure there isn't even an option for that.

The files are for a DEDICATED server
The screenshot you posted is NOT for a DEDICATED server

If you can't tell the difference, you aren't qualified to run a server.

Well I'm sorry your highness...

But please take note of the tick box in the screenshot for a frickin' DEDICATED server ??
(facepalm)

I take it you never played Crysis wars then.

So yeah, I can tell the difference and there is no need for you damn attitude.

So next time pay attention. and if you are going to say anything, make a valid contribution to the thread, or sod off.

Gee...

no it's not, that proves nothing, the game comes with host tools for a dedicated server, the proof is there in the screenshot!! okay sure you can download the host tool by it's self. this would really be for people wanting to run the server seperate from the PC they intend to be gaming on, but nonetheless Crysis wars has an ingame option for hosting a dedicated server. okay?

Running the game on the server means it isn't by definition, a dedicated server.

Uhm, did I miss something or do you really need two different Crysis 2 cd keys to join your OWN dedicated server?
If that is true, then this new dedicated server.exe is absolutely useless for me.

just get crysis wars and see for your self how it works, once you launch the game with the dedicated server box ticked it closes down the game and launches a dedicated server outside of the game.
