Am I hot? Or NOT?

Post » Wed Apr 14, 2010 11:40 am

Lydia:  She looks kinda chubby to me. Pretty, but chubby. She would be a knockout if she hit the treadmill once in a while.

Kyla:  Not ugly, but nothing special.

Mindi:  Pretty, and cute. She's totally the type of girl I'd make out with under the bleachers. :P

Jibran:  I think he's pretty handsome looking. He's totally the type of guy I would.. No wait, nevermind. :whistling:

Edit: Why aren't the rest in? Dave, Bogmok, Claudia or Hale? They're decent competitors IMO..

Okay... since I guess at least minor modding is allowable on this, and since I already tried posting some of these on the thread on the Mods forum and they were entirely snubbed (I just don't have the skill to compete with those people).

The only things modified on any of them are some of the clothes/armors/weapons, the skin textures (Natural Faces) and the hair on the three ladies (Corean). Everything else is vanilla, and all were done through normal chargen.

All of your girls are really great!

A couple others I really liked were Amelia and Buffy :hubbahubba: . Oh, and Aedan looked really awesome.

I svck at making faces on the facegen. Anyone wanna gimme some tips for a vanilla Oblivion?

I'm actually surprised Bethesda didn't have a checkbox of some kind to restrict the sliders to follow popular observations on how the human facial features are proportioned relative to one another. Leonardo Da Vinci is famous for laying out such measurements. A Google search should bring up more info if you're interested in applying that process.
If the software had the option to apply such restrictions, it would no doubt save a lot of time and make character creation easier.

Why aren't the rest in? Dave, Bogmok, Claudia or Hale? They're decent competitors IMO..

Mostly I didn't want to flood the topic with a bunch of characters and had to stop somewhere. Claudia was the toughest to leave out-- I think she's a doll. But Renee's already got more than enough to do on this thread. And.... well.... it was just a bit of a struggle. At first I was concerned about posting them because they're modded and somebody said that modded characters would get the thread locked or moved, and I didn't want to be responsible for that, then I posted some of them on the thread in the Mods forum instead and was crushed when not one person even commented at all, so it took pretty much all of what little nerve I've got just to post them at all. I wasn't going to, but.... anyway......

I went back through the entire thread and, honestly, I didn't see a single character (other than maybe Bendu) to whom I would've given a "Not", so I just limited myself to picking out some "Hot"s:

Nariene, Squiros' unnamed character, Kelly, Buffy, Gael and Alleystria's current battlemage (Arianne?).

And if there was an option for it, I'd really like to give a vote for "Not necessarily hot but still well done" to Meldil. If asked, I wouldn't have been able to even guess what a deranged Bosmer kid who enjoys sneaking up on people and hitting them in the back and who has warrants for small fines for strange crimes all over Tamriel would look like, but when I saw him, I thought, "Yep-- looks like one to me."

gpstr, all of your characters are "hot", no question. I was especially taken by Lydia.

As an aside, I just want to encourage you to keep sharing your screenshots in the Ob Mods thread, and try not to let a lack of acknowledgment of your efforts discourage you. People tend to give comments to people who leave comments- share your thoughts on the screenies you see there, and I bet people will be more inclined to share their thoughts on yours. :)

I think she's pretty good, really. If she were mine, I'd just make the eyes a bit smaller (you might have to work on the placement a bit then-- distance apart, slant, height etc.), make the eyebrows a bit lighter (I find it works best to make them thinner, then to adjust the sliders for light/dark under them a bit toward dark and over them a bit toward light. For whatever reason, Oblivion faces tend toward highlights under the eyebrows rather than above them) and tone the beard down a bit (that one's especially tough, since there's a fine line between so dark it looks strange and so light it looks strange, and changing the beard tones, for whatever reason, changes the body tones as well).

Overall, I find it's easier to randomize until I find the skin tone I want, then adjust the shape to what I want rather than the other way around. The tone sliders have lots of unintended consequences and there are some things that they just don't seem able to fix, while the shape sliders are much more straightforward and much easier to fix if you start heading down the wrong path. And a simple trick you might not have run across yet-- if you go into the shape menu and adjust the forehead slant all the way forward, then go back all the way out to the complexion slider and just tap it in either direction, all of the facial textures will "snap" back into place, getting rid of most of the blotchiness that's the bane of Oblivion characters. Then you can go back and adjust the forehead tilt back to where you want it.

Best of luck.... :D

*edit to add* looking at that screenie some more, it seems to me that the problem with the face textures is primarily two things-- the beard is actually a bit too light, and the skin is a bit too flushed, so there's too much contrast between the red band across the nose and upper cheeks and the sort of greenish white around the mouth. I'd definitely move the skin slider a bit toward pale instead of flushed, but I don't know what to tell you about the beard. I've had very little luck with that-- as I said before, the line between too light and too dark seems just about impossible to find, plus there are all those different sliders for the beard, so it's hard to tell whether you need to change the circle or the goatee or the mustache or....

Honestly, with female characters, the beard is one of the things I pay the most attention to when I'm randomizing for tone, since I've found it just about impossible to change it successfully.

Again, best of luck....

In my own defense, I was careful to stipulate "likely to be moved to the mods forum, or locked."

But this just illustrates why I'll never be asked to be a moderator (besides the fact that I have a repellant personality): I don't know what I'm talking about.

Well like I was saying earlier, if this contest were based on a points system (like if we could give a vote from 1 to 10 points for instance), there might be a prob with the vanilla versus mods syndrome, because then picture quality could come into play as a factor. But so far the Vanilla gamers have been holding their own pretty well in my opinion. Agree? Disagree?

...Things are a little hectic in the Renee Gade household tonite, so if I'm a little slow at getting stuff up in hte opening post, be patient. I'll have 'em all up (and votes) by tomorrow afternoon. And thanks! :)

By the way, Holy Assassin has been cross-checking me on my scoring, so just wanted to give him a shout. :) things have been accurate so far, sorta/kinda...

A question for all the (what I'll call) blanket-voters. This is Acadian, greenwarden, etc. The ones who say "they're all hot". Do you want me to just give a +1 to ANYbody who posts a pic from now on? In other words, I've been tallying votes based on whatever's already extant. Should I just give a blanket-tally +1/hot vote to anybody who shows up in the future?

Just wondering because I was debating with Holy Assassin that I should allow you peoples the freedom to change your mind. Like I shouldn't just "assume" everybody should get a hot vote from you guys (in the future). Or should I?

Well, some people here probably know Lorelei pretty well. I stopped doing pics of her a long time ago due to some people on the forums being very rude and insulting her. I never did any other pics of any of my other characters (Erianna, Ariella, Momoko, Lyrillia).

Here is an old pic of Lorelei in case anyone is wondering about what she looks like full body.

All of these are very nice. I am brand new to this game and so far haven't managed to make a face as nice as any of these.

Marik
Sierra
Mathias Duponte
Misty
Shivazsa
Igodah Go^Pe
Amaia
Sajin
Meldil Eradra
Leotine

I liked these ten the best. I am friends with Pseron in real life so I had to vote for one of his, lol.

Sorry.... I didn't mean to make it sound like I was assigning any blame.

You could've just said that you thought that maybe it was barely possible that just maybe posting a heavily modded character might very rarely lead to a thread possibly being occasionally moved every once in a while and that would've been enough to scare me away from it. :D

I would think that the thing to do is to not count non-specified votes at all. Giving a "Hot" to everyone is the same thing, relatively, as not giving any at all, so in order to be fair to those who are still showing up, you'd be better off not giving out blanket votes at all. Otherwise, you have to figure out what to do with latecomers, and neither giving them a vote they didn't actually earn nor not giving them a vote you gave to everyone else would be fair.

I would think that any time a specific name is mentioned in the thread, that specific character gets that vote, and that's it.

gpster makes some VERY good points about the "blanket voters". I Dang! I'm so confused now. Don't worry, though, I'll pull it together.

My latest votes:

Lydia: Wowie! When I saw her it reminded me of one of those Afterschool Specials NBC used to have (you know, before Cable TV was around). I immediately saw myself being her friend, all the while getting all shy cuz I really wanna ask her to the movies some time! +1 from me!

Kyla: I'm neutral on her. Good-looking, but I can't decide one way or the other. Need to see her in regular townie clothes, perhaps.

Mindi: um..to die for! +1! Next!

Jibran: Nawt. Just not doing anything for me. :(

thefox99's "svcky Breton": I wasn't sure if this was truely being entered in the contest or not, so I left a blank spot on the OP for this one. But I'd vote "not" in this case. Like she needs a makeover or something! She's kind of like my high-elf (Igodah Go^Pe). Looks stunning in a dress, but kind of ordinary in her battle clothes.

Lorelei: OMG. Faerie wings always look cute, but I usually don't see them as "hot". But Lorelei manages to pull this off! :hubbahubba: The negligee is also an obvious plus. Many human females (Earth females) can't wear negligee without looking [censored]ty. Lorelei doesn't look [censored]ty, though; she's managing to pull this look off without looking like she's about to go on Jerry Springer. Her eyes and purple pigtails are a little spooky/over the top, but what can I say? Hot vote here!

Would you care to clarify what you mean by "Not again"?

Sorry, just saw this post, I missed it before.

I think the vote above Angel was a "not" vote from me, and then when I got to Angel, I merely said "not again". I didn't mean it in the way you took it. I was merely saying "not" and "not" a 2nd time. Make sense?

Nissshe! Would you like me to enter her (yick, that didn't sound right!) and not the previous "svcky" picture?

Hey everyone, I'm going to a birthday party tonite, I'm literally out the door in a few. Will tally up votes probably in the morning, becaues I'm anticipating being a bit drunk tonite after the party.

...This is alot of work! I just sat here for 2 hours re-tallying stuff (in my notebook) and adding new entrants btw.

I'm thinking gpster is right...the blanket-voters might get bumped off, except for greenwarden, who has been good at returning here and giving actual reasons why she thinks characters deserve hot votes. Acadian, too, maybe. We'll see...

Again, I like all these characters. I think the original Kat Orrork had a rather haunted expression, and the revision still keeps that feeling. But am I really the only one who sees the "hot" in Jack, killerpenguin's Argonian? :ooo: He's awesome looking!
