Hotkey issues (dual wield & 1H+spell)

Post » Sat Dec 10, 2011 1:55 pm

I'm not sure if there is a solution for this, but here's the problem:

My character usually uses two one-hand weapons. They are favourited and assigned to the keys "1" and "2", one in each hand. I also use a spell, which is favourited and bound to the "3" key. When my character holds both weapons and I press "3", the spell appears in the left hand, which is fine. However, if I then press "1" to put the weapon back into the left hand, it will replace the second weapon in the right hand. The spell remains in the left hand. If I press "3" a second time, the spell doesn't go away, but it appears now in both hands. :)

Is there a way to go back to weapon+weapon by using the hotkeys? That is, without manually going into the favourites menu and left clicking the weapon that I want in the left hand. It's really cumbersome and breaks the flow of the game.

(Switching between 2H and 1H+1H/spell+1H/shield+1H all works fine for me, but I can't figure it out with the setup above.)

Very annoying.

Same here. I had bad experiences with hotkeys and spells only. Now my DW char REALLY has issues. I hope the hotkey system is addressed in the patch. :sadvaultboy:

Yeah, there's no way around it. primary weapons always go to the right hand.

It's kinda annoying. They gave us dual wielding and actually make our lives around it harder. What's the point of dual wielding if I can't dual wield my axes easily?

I cant even get the number hotkeys to dual wield my two different daggers. Hitting '1' pulls one out, hitting '2' puts the firs away and pulls the other out.

Ill take it there's no way to hotkey dual wield separate spells either?

Agreed! I hope they go back to the hotkeys being able to store combo's. I would still like the shouts/powers to be individual, though. Even if they could could set the hotkeys to be set for a hand. 1 - sword 1 in left hand, 2 - sword 2 in right hand, 3 - Ex-wife in mouth (AKA shout,) etc, etc.

Yup, This is a terrible problem for dual-wield types who also use spells. I pray it is in the patch, since the only workaround is constantly using the favorites menu and interrupting the flow of combat, which is cheese.

I mentioned this on the Mod section, and check the mods daily. NO fix yet :(

On the 360 I enchanted a pair of daggers with the same enchantment but diffent names. Now they condense in my fav menu and rename themselfs as the same thing.

This problem annoys me so much I had to forgo my plan for a nightblade and stick to pure duel-wield warrior.

I know right? this is the exact problem. The real shame is that it DOES work for switching purely between bows and dual-weaps. Spells kill it, and I have been doing the dual-wield with spells since D+D 3.0

I still stubbornly am doing it in my master/did in anticipation of either the patch or the release of the creation kit since I am certain it will be modded, there are too many threads with this topic.

This and Destruction magic are of vital import to the Munchkin

Just another example of redesigning core systems and then mis-designing the UI instead of just geting the UI right on the existing system. Sure toolbars and the like are old school, but atleast you knew what you were getting with drag and drop hot-key assignments.
The least they could have done is allow full equipment loadouts to be bound to hotkeys so you could reconfigure BOTH hands and your apparel with one keypress.

Yes this would be ideal, and save those oh so precious 1-8 keyslots.

Well, perhaps there is. If you press the hotkey for a spell of your choice twice, both your left hand and right hand will wield the same spells. Simply press another hotkey and you've got another spell on your left hand

probably

I'm playing a warrior, so I don't worry too much about magic. I'm no worrier, see?

Full equipment loadout would be OP.

I will never need magicka again if I can switch to 100% reduce restoration cost equipment whenever I want to heal, 100% reduce destruction cost equipment whenever I want to nuke someone.

I will be happy with just both hands.

What I do. In the fav menu I always have highlighted the 2nd weapon. When switching from spell to the weapon I press Q and right mouse button. Takes half a second to equip the weapon.

What if your dagger starts with the letter M and you have to go down between your huge favorite list because using the favorite list is a lot better than the [censored] UI? Not half a second.

You move to the dagger before fight. The fav menu keeps the selection as long as you don't change it yourself.

I posted this in another thread. However, here's what I do to make this problem A BIT less annoying.

Let's say I have two daggers out, and I want to switch to a spell. Normally, the spell would appear in the left hand, creating the problem outlined here. However, let's say you also have a bow or two-handed weapon hotkeyed. If you switch to that weapon first, and then immediately use the spell hotkey, you don't affect the dual dagger load-out at all. You switch to a two-handed weapon first, so when you use the spell, the weapon has to go away and you just have the spell in the right hand. When you press the dagger hotkey again, you are back to dual daggers.

This is still a bit annoying as it takes a second to switch twice instead of once, but I find it less annoying than having to go into the favorites menu a bunch.

EDIT: It's also only a semi-fix in the sense that you can't attack and use a spell at once in this case. If you want to do that, you'd still have to labor through the favorites menu.

Yeah, OK I do not know why you are attempting to play devils advocate of this horrendous problem for dual-wielders. Your solution is bad. Thanks. This needs to be fixed, hopefully in the patch and in a mod if nothing else.

If it does wind up being a mod I will feel genuinely sorry for console users since they will be stuck with this lousy problem.

Kia Ora

I also dilike this issue and the other thing I'm not happy about is the fact that to cast a spell you have to go into ready mode and if your casting
Clairvoyance you end up hualing out a weapon,.. that doesn't go down well if you in town looking to find which path to take or your healing your
follower it feel weid drawing a weapon on them to heal them,.. cast in OB was choice,.. having to sheath your weapon to cast slows you down
