2-hour Dungeons? Wow! :O

Post » Mon Oct 17, 2011 1:55 am

I read in the "Skyrim Information VI" Topic (thanks goes to Zaldir) yesterday that dungeons are far improved, and some even taking 2 HOURS to fully search, etc.

How many of these do you think there will be of that size and depth?

In Oblivion, they were pretty small. If you couldn't battle, were too weak, ran out of provisions, weapons were broken, etc, you could very easily retreat to the exit, leave, and return once you were ready and rearmed, etc...

WELL, you better make ABSOLUTELY SURE that you're READY for a LONG trek into a large dungeon in Skyrim. Almost as if it's a journey that takes planning and preparation, as if climbing Mount Everest or something.

Otherwise you might find yourself unable to proceed at some point and get killed or something being a LONG way from the exit. Although, perhaps there are multiple exits (though I hope not). :(

Well you might say: "Well a '2-hour dungeon' doesn't mean that it's huge necessarily, just a lot to loot/look for". Whereas that's true I think for a dungeon to take 2 hours to search would then logically HAVE to be large, yes?

Your thoughts?

I think once I mod out health regenration and mod in locational damage things are going to be a lot more difficult and realistic.

I hope this is true. You would actually need to prepare for it rather than finding an odd opening in a cave and venturing in. I'm getting excited now, I'm going to plan out my tactics for when I go dungeoning: what provisions I'm going to need, what backup weapons I should take, where I'm going to rest if I need to. There's so much to think about :D

As soon as the game comes out, I predict this thread will be revived or a new one like it will crop up, in which somebody is very upset that they finished 'the hardest dungeon in Skyrim' in 30 minutes and Beth did...something or other wrong

The thing is, for you or me, yeah, sure, maybe we scour the place looking at every brick in the wall, trying to find a hidden or secret door. Somebody else will run through it at top speed 50 times until they find the secret and then say: "I did it just like that. Boom. It was too easy"

Players sometimes lack objectivity about this stuff. I easily spent over an hour on many dungeons in OB, playing a stealth character. I blasted through the same ones in much less time as a tank. there were a couple in which I didn't find the secret door or whatever for a while and that took a long time. Then some mods, like Ivellon, took longer than 2 hours

So I wonder how the timeframe for a dungeon is arrived at. Fully search? What does that really mean?

Yea i believe that the 2 hour ones will mostly be Dwemer Ruins, but they are all handcrafted now that they have 40 more members that worked on Skyrim than Oblivion, thats almost double what they had originally.

If you think about it, 40 new members to work on the dungeons (I doubt the 40 new members only worked on dungeons). They said the size of the world is about the same as Oblivion, but they jammed more quest, dungeons, and things to do into it. I asked Pete how much more stuff there was and he responded that they don't calculate, they are to busy working on the game, still to this point.

Anyways in previous interviews with Todd Howard it was said that there is almost double the amount of stuff in Skyrim than there was in Oblivion.

I'm really looking forward to this as well though I am expecting this to probably be a small percentage of the dungeons to hit this length.

Hopefully something like this http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Arena:Labyrinthian would be a good candidate :D

I really hope this is true. Best dungeons I have roamed have to be from Baldur's Gate 2 and Pathfinder RPG (tabletop) but I hope that these will be as immersive as those. There were some gems in Morrowind, Oblivion, and all four Fallouts aswell so definitely looking forward to roaming Skyrim's dungeons too.

Why do you guys never post a source?

If you post amazing news like this, back them up. Atleast link to the info-thread so I can look it up there.

Well they have 8 level designers doing the dungeons, so I would expect some pretty big dungeons, and I will look forward to it.
