76 hours in, Main Quest still unfinished

Post » Wed Dec 07, 2011 8:37 pm

76 hours so far... and at level 41.

I've only done the main quest to I think the 1/3 mark. And the main faction quest (meaning Legion or Stormcloak) to about the halfway point.

I haven't even done much in the way of other faction quests, since the Companions are bugged for me with the Hall not resetting after an attack on their HQ.

All I can say is... WOW! Every cave/fortress/dwemer ruin/etc. has a story... caves are definitely not samey-samey like Oblivion. I still have upteen sidequests unfulfilled, and countless Misc. Ones. Whole swaths of Skyrim are almost entirely still unexplored.

Seriously, the best aspect of the game so far is the background that accompanies almost every location. Hardly a 'dungeon' exists that doesn't have a narrative of some kind, rather than "Here's a randomish cave filled with rats/goblins/etc." like most RPGs. Each one seems to have something that makes it unique. You don't just rush through them to get them "Out of the way". To say that almost 80 hours in is a pretty big deal.

Also thanks for putting the exits near the end point, or a shortcut back to the front. Saves countless hours of tedium walking back through an already cleared area.

In short, everything is fun, and 'drag' moments - the times you say to yourself, "I have to clear this/do this, boring stuff to get to the good stuff." is minimal.

Thank you so much Bethesda! I'm almost scared about the DLC. This is like pre Civ-5 action, "just one more turn" = "Just one more quest".

My only complaint is that I had to sit through the Twilight Movie to get wife credit for playing Skyrim all last weekend.

There certainly are a lot of things to do but the main quest is not very long at all compared to the previous TES titles. I am happy with the game but I think the main and guild quests are way too short.

I am also 70+ hrs in and haven't completed the main quest. Only the mages guild and thieves guild are done. I haven't really done anything else other than exploring and just random stuff. Amazing game.

I've played like 30 hours or so (only get to play on weekends) and I haven't joined ANY factions yet (or started the MQ), just exploring every cave and ruin I come across and loving it. :D

I was at 60 hours in when I decided it was time to start focusing on the main quest again.

At that point, I was only up to getting the Horn for the Greybeards.

10 hours later I was finished with main quest and now I'm just going around exploring some more.

It was disappointing and I've already forgot most of the details. Only thing I remember was needing to start the thief and mage guild quests first, but didn't need to finish up the first quest in order to move the main quest along.

Aside from one dungeon, everything else could be easily blitzed through.

I have put about 20 hours so far and I haven't even finished the main quest due to always getting side quest on the way. Love how the game was made!

93 hours, level 48 and I've just gotten up to a really spoilery part of the main quest. Now I'm scouring the world for words of power (made so much easier by arngeir and the mysterious friend). Ill probably be doing that and the civil war before I finish up the MQ.

Man you said EVERYTHING !!

I really liked your post, i feel the same way !

I just have two little complaints :

1st - Almost all the quests i've done so far requires me to go into dungeons, caves, crypts etc.. I mean, i would like to make more outside caves missions... If you know what i mean.. but nothing to worry about, i'm just a [censored]. lol
2nd - Some quests requires you for example, to go to Riften, talk to a guy, and he says to you to go to Markath or Soltitude to get someting or kill someone and then come all the way back to Riften to get your reward.. I'm complaining about this, because i don't like to use Fast Travel.. Probably you'll say to use carriages, but there is soemtimes that you gotta go to a cave in nowhere very far away from all the major cities, so it's kind a big travel to do.. I think they should put more locally based mission, i mean, to go to places the aren't so far away.. ;D

Other than that i'm loving the game at it most ! This two complaints don't bother me that much, i'm just saying..

Thank you Bethesda. :tes:

Im just near 60 hrs now and haven't started one of the main faction quest yet and still finishing the Grey Beard trials. I did complete the Companion's quest, started with the thief's guild, and finished nearly all of the quests in Riften (besides the thief' guild quests of course) and Whiterun. Exploring is extremely rewarding and I love how the different caves, forts, and ruins have different atmosphere's and feels. Not wanting to rush through the game as I know it's going to be a long time (if ever) that the next TES comes out. Trying to savor and enjoy as much as I can.

I already come across a place on the South East part of the map that seems like what will be a portal for an expansion :celebration:

I finally finished the main quest, after 90+ hours. :D (Yes I've actually played that much already) The world does feel more empty now though. I always felt that I could just jump on the main quest and find some other ones on the way.
