"Hours" of music

Post » Fri Sep 09, 2011 7:30 pm

I just saw an interesting tweet by Pete Hines.

@DCDeacon Is there a lot of peaceful songs like Oblivion had? My fav from Oblivion was Dusk at Market, anything compare in Skyrim?

@johnearts Yes, there is a lot of everything. There is hours (plural) of music here.

Now "hours" could be anywhere from 2 to 200 but even if it is just 2 then that's at least over twice as much music as Morrowind and Oblivion. I guess it will take me a bit longer to get bored of the music after all.

If there is one thing I disliked in Morrowind and Oblivion, it was the fact that most of the songs repeated every hour or so.. This is good news, thanks for the info! :foodndrink:

This is really great news, especially for a series known for its music. The more variety, the better.

Sounds awesome, more music is always good. :D
Although I never got bored of Morrowind's music in all my years of playing.

It's going to be great to update my list of music to listen to, and even better to have a larger variety of amazing, atmospheric soundtracks while playing the game.

I still listen to Morrowind & Oblivion soundtrack every now and then. Great background music for when you're studying.

Agreed! I'm all about the music in games. Especially in TES, it adds so much to the atmosphere. Can't wait!

I only know of that piece because I bought the soundtrack.

It'd be safe to say I never heard it in-game. :shakehead:

From what I heard, the music in Skyrim is incredible. So happy to hear that there's hours of songs so that they won't lose their appeal after playing for a long time.

My favorite song from oblivion is "Peace Of Akatosh." If there are multiple songs like this one i'll be happy!

Great news, would be even greater if we had an idea of how much hours exactly.
Anyway....Soundtrack to a game its even more important than graphics for me. Its like in the movies, you don't need a fullhd version for enjoying a good story, but a good story without good music....it can't be a classic.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XFMkDYVe4l8 piece of soundtrack somehow reminds me of the Neverwinter Nights soundtrack,
which is, in my opinion, one of the best works of Jeremy. I like it.

That would be good considering oblivion only had about 20 tracks for its whole game, and the same music played in each area, it was great music but it needed more variety.

The music in Skyrim will of course be awesome, it's written by Jeremy Soule after all.

Here is the length of the music in previous Elder Scrolls:

  • Oblivion Town Music: 12:29
  • Oblivion Exploration Music: 26:19
  • Oblivion Dungeon Music: 07:35
  • Oblivion Battle Music: 10:25
  • Oblivion Total + Intro: 56:49 + 1:50

  • Morrowind Town Music: n/a
  • Morrowind Exploration Music: 22:34
  • Morrowind Dungeon Music: n/a
  • Morrowind Battle Music: 15:31
  • Morrowind Total + Intro: 38:06 + 1:54

PS: Do anyone know if the music plays totally random, or does it play some tracks depending on what time of the day it is?

I don't think anything like that has been talked about officially, but damn I really wish it would be like that.

I couldn't stop listening to one of the "Town" tracks yesterday. As in, it was the only song I played all day while working, just kept hitting play over and over again. I share Pete's enthusiasm for the score.

That's not a bad thing, though, taverns need some jovial drinking music.

Are you talking about one of Skyrim's town tracks? :o
