4 hours of play, reflections on what, so far, is an excellen

Post » Sun Dec 04, 2011 11:53 pm

I am posting this here to give a general impression that is spoiler free.

First, I am noticing a LOT more conversation and topics with the people you get to speak with in places - this is a great thing since FO3's conversations often felt anemic. A lot of the dialogue is in gaining information and not "choices" but I'm enjoying it greatly. Also, I have laughed out loud quite a few times - which is rare imho in most games..... the one-liners or references have been enjoyable.

I love the new reputation system - although it's too early to see if it has a deep and lasting impact - but so far, I really like it.

The choices seem fairly black/white right now .... I had hoped for more 'grey' but we'll see as the game deepens.

I have not had any graphical slow down (have had over 15+ NPCs on screen all at once) nor crashes, nor issues of any kind with the game.

I just recently (before leaving for work) reached Primm and just started the quests there after thoroughly exploring Goodsprings.

So far, the game is just as good as I had hoped.... kudos to Obsidian so far!

Just picked up the FALLOUT: NEW VEGAS three hours ago and have been enjoying it immensely. Had no problems with installation and everything is running smooth and slick on ultra settings with a resolution of 1280x1024 on a 2.5 quad core and 2 gigs of memory with a Radeon HD 5770.

Music is great and it will be a long time before i put any outside music in the game if ever. Excellent work by Inon Zur and Mark Morgan.

Intro and character creation are fun and puts me right into the action almost right away. As soon one walks out into the world its totally new and refreshing yet comfortably familiar. Combat out of vats is much more precise and natural. To my surprise i found myself playing more out of vats mode because of how exciting and natural it felt. Sound effects are stunning and completely immersive. I really feel like am in a living environment full of wild creatures and a war going on around me. The colors in FALLOUT: NEW VEGAS are much more rich and dont feel washed out. Everything stands out and brings out the great artwork throughout the world like the many exciting posters.

I found myself connecting to npcs right away thanks to the great voice acting and their unique visual appearance. So far i have yet to meet any npc clones. The new reputation is great and makes me feel rewarded for helping others. It will be interesting to see what happens when i do something..NAUGHTY.

Am playing in hardcoe mode which is a blast to play and reminds me alot of the first FALLOUT aswell as the 1980s classic WASTELAND. hardcoe mode feels very intuitive and could have easily been called commonsense mode since it doesnt feel unnatural or like am playing a game. Making sure to eat drink and sleep is not cumbersome or tedious at all.

Love the game box art full of ENERGETIC ZEAL!

Definitely worth the money and rushing to buy on the first day of release.

Thank you to all involved at OBSIDIAN and BETHESDA for this masterpiece.

I am a happy customer :obliviongate:

I only got the game last night and teh little amount I played was really cool. Mostly tutorial stuff about crafting food and health items, but I liked what was added, kept and done away with. Granted I only have about three hours into the game but I like it!

Awsome I picked up Vanquish and Fallout: NV last night at midnight release but just threw in Vanqiush since I had to work at 9am and didn't want to take get absorbed into the world of New Vegas to the point I was running on 2 hours of sleep. I'm enjoying Vanquish a ton but luckily since I work from home, I just installed Fallout on my HDD(was rather quick less than 10 minutes) and am about to decend into New Vegas.

I got to play a couple of hours this morning before work, and I agree with these sentiments. I'm pleased with the voice acting so far, though I can't say much about it because I haven't gone beyond Goodsprings yet. At least it seems like it won't just be the same 4 voice actors all game long. ;) I also agree about VATS, though it's going to take a bit of getting used to to not use VATS as often as I did in Fallout 3. I'm not much of an FPSer, and even less on the PC. But I can say this: using a shotgun is just more fun when you do it outside of VATS. :P

I actually disagree about the shades of grey comment; I'm finding that things are certainly not as cut and dry as they might appear initially, ie., that the NCR is the "good" and Ceaser and the Powder gang, etc., are the bad. Certainly the Powder gang does some pretty raucous stuff early on, but the NCR, as I'm learning upon getting deeper into the game, is far from "good." I won't post any spoilers, but I will say that what I thought would be a relatively innocuous decision regarding the faction with whom I'd be siding has gotten considerably tougher.

I got about 3 hours last night and I really feel the same, although Sally Sunshine or whatever her name is feels kinda flat. I have been trying to use the iron sights, but I am still using VATS when facing several enemies. I have barely ventured outside of Good Springs and I cant wait to get home from work to explore more.

I played about 30 minutes over lunch and ran into once instance of MAJOR slow down when being attacked by several enemies. Hopefully this is a fluke and wont happen too often. I am playing on the 360 from my HDD. So far the game is everything I had dared to hope for.

Yes am picking up alot of hints of the NCR leaning towards not being as wholesome as they appear. Interesting how they remind me of certain real world fringe groups in the news lately. Maybe those slaves of the Legion have a reason for having fought so hard against the NCR in their last great battle.

Any comments regarding the stability/bugs specifically on the PC? Do you see people floating about like in Xbox?

I wish I didn't have to wait for Friday.

So far I am loving the game, I found it to be a vast improvement to F3 in terms of feel. One thing I really didn't like about F3 was the way the world looked, NV ont he other hand the world feels very alive and interesting.

Likes so Far:

-Mobs not automatically attacking you
-Animals seem to have factions, ants attacking scorps, coyotes attacking geckos (this may have been in f3 i just never noticed it)
- Iron sites
- Locations have unique designs, more diversity in objects
- More inclined to do follow the story.
- Interesting landscape
- Far cooler weapons
- being ambushed, the name of the location should have given it away but I was just looking for loot instead i got in a massive fire fight.

Only dislike is that the map feels more restrictive then F3. I feel less incllined to wonder off and do my own thing. But it might be that it's just early in the game.

Overall loving it.

PC version seems to have the most bugs at the moment. A large level beyond the consoles, in any case.

I have played about 4 hours also.
and... its great! I am loving my time with the game so far!

I am playing the pc version and its running well (50-60 FPS all the time).

Here are the things im enjoying:
- The story is wicked
- atmosphere is awesome
- loving the rpg elements
- the voice acting is fantastic
- the gameplay feels more fluid now

So far its reminding me alot of Fallout1 and 2! Thank you Obsidian! This is what I call a next gen Fallout game done right! The atmosphere is dead on!
