House of Cards RetrospectiveRelaunch

Post » Fri Sep 26, 2014 3:32 pm

I read House of Cards IC and OOC and (for the most part) liked what I read. It had a hard time progressing from early on, but at some point in the future I'd like to give it another shot. I've put a bit of thought into this, but will be putting a good deal more into it before posting anything. The thoughts of participants and non-participant readers are invaluable in determining just what went wrong.

If anyone has any thoughts on what they think did and did not work in the thread I'd like to hear those thoughts.

There were a lot of characters and factions who disappeared rather quickly, so I'd imagine starting the thread without them. A lot of interesting stuff was done in the thread so I'd like to start this relaunch after the events of the first thread and after a bit of a timeskip...but I'd also like to clean up what already happened a bit.

I want this to edge closer back to canon lore as a base so that any diversions away from that can be shown through the writing rather than an accepted diversion from the get go. I'd excise the bits involving Las Sucias, the Enclave Remnants, and Caesar's Legion. The timeskip would see the New California Republic taking out the hive they attacked near the end of the Original Thread...but facing criticism after doing so, and subsequently (and not without some in fighting) pulling back out of the Mojave once and for all.

There are a few other changes I'd want to make. As well. The only one that really comes to mind right now is just getting rid of one of the Three Families. The White Glove Society never did much of anything and seemed to be included just for completions sake. I'll have them abandoning New Vegas as the Tunneler's make the city unsafe and unfit for such refined and civilized folk.

Once again, any thoughts on these changes, any changes you'd like to see, any changes that you feel would break the story, any feedback is welcome.

The problem was simply that there aren't enough active RPers here. At that point in time, people were split between Colombia, House of Cards and Houses Folly. Now, most of our people who serious about being active are in Ashes of Columbia.

I don't expect to see an RP as active as Columbia was at it's height until we start getting some real buzz about the next Gallout game and an influx of members.

(I meant to send you a PM earlier, but it slipped my mind.)

I'll be back as Gomorrah, but concerning the other factions, it might be best to leave in lore factions in, unless the new group decides otherwise. Or will you be filling the role of GM? As the old one was group based.

And I'm not sure keeping some of the events as they were would work. The idea of a reboot is to grab as much attention as possible and gather a RPer base. Leaving the events as they were could alienate new RPers to the setting as they'd need to read up on what happened.

Not necessarily. Even though a lot happened...really not all that much happened. As some have commented a lot of what happened happened in the OOC, partly due to the Rule By Vote approach you all attempted. What actually happened could be summed up in a paragraph or two...perhaps setting back to ground zero is a good idea though. Been thinking about starting it back over with House, would immediately change a good deal.

By taking the lore factions out I really just mean not considering the small amount of stuff they did, Caesar's Legion, Enclave Remanants, and Sucias, to have happened. Each of those factions had a small handful of posts that didn't impact much of anything. Caesar's Legion posts consisted of a two (was it one?) stop goodwill tour and a series of coups, Sucias didn't do much of anything, and Remnants attempted to set up a clash between NCR and the Tetrarchy, but it fell apart.

Pretty much this. House of Cards died out because of lack of interest. Columbia more or less died out because people felt the RP had run its course for the most part. Certain factions had come to dominate the RP and it was about time for a reboot anyway. Ashes of Columbia is barely chugging along as is, and it received a pretty large amount of support when it was initially proposed. Just not a good time for roleplays really. I tend to agree with Ghostly in that the RP forum isn't going to pick back up again until a new Fallout is announced. The only real cure for apathy is hype.

Anyway, just my two cents. I highly doubt I'll participate in House of Cards again in any case. It wasn't a roleplay I particularly enjoyed as much as others, and I only stuck in it as long as I did because I felt obligated to. I'll continue devoting my time to trying to keep AoC alive.
