when I drop my loot in my house and place on shelves or desks and I leave and then come back it is all over the ground. I don't get how it got worse? Please someone tell me if they know this and are working on it.

Agreed. This is my number one complaint about this game.

I'm having the same problem, and am equally mystified as to how they could have made it so utterly broken. Even quicksaving and then quickloading while in the house causes all my stuff to go everywhere.

Sounds like it's hard to fix. Probably have to assign each item to the location you put it down and stuff? Just a guess, really.

Also, why the heck can't you use the arrow keys or numpad keys to rotate the object you are holding? It is such a pain.

I haven't noticed this because I just use the containers inside the house. Really, I like the bookshelves, but they don't hold nearly enough books. Books are the only thing I'm really collecting this time around.

I think, but I'm not sure, if you drop an item on the floor, leave the house and come back in you can place it wherever you like and it will stay. I'm not sure but I've read this might work. I'm going to try it when I get home. As for weapon racks, that's something Bethesda simply needs to fix.

I haven't had a problem so far. The mannequin, weapon racks and bookshelves all seem to be doing their jobs.

Edit: Also, this is a huge step up from me spending hours maneuvering every item in my inventory into just the right position for display.

I only collect unique books, but there is WAY TO LESS space to put all unique books on bookshelves. That's a bad thing...

Physics engine has some flaws. Most item that lie around freely in the world are 'frozen' until you pick it up. This means the objects are stuck on a specific coordinate until you interact with it.
If you stack some books on each other, quicksave and quickload again, the locations of the books will stay the same, but the psysics engine resets and the objects will receive a little force impulse because they collide a bit or fall a small distance. This can create a cluster[censored] of physics calculations which can send stuff flying. This is quite common for physics engines (garry's mod for hl2 suffers the same quirks, different engine), and therefore i think this game has the same issues. I'm not a programmer nor technician, so correct me if i'm wrong, but i think this could be easily fixed by 'freezing' every object that lies still for more than 5 seconds.

Nope, skyrim and half life 2 both use the havok engine.

I haven't had any issues with physic objects flying around. They don't even move when I enter a cell. Not like Oblivion, where every time you enter a cell all the phys objects are elevated slightly so everything falls down as soon as you enter a building.

Press and hold the activate button until you pick it up, then release the button to move it around.

There is also a telekinesis spell, that DOES allow you to rotate an object, just like all the other Elder Scrolls games that makes manually placing items infinitely easier.

Press "E" and hold it.

Yes, the "E" is on KB only sorry - it is the activate button. (You silly console users! :) )

I didn't see this problem at first, but lately the physics have been wonky and random items in places fall over. I actually walked around the Companions' Hall setting food back on the table,... hehe.

In Oblivion my house never had this problem in the all the years I played and reloaded my saves. I hope this is able to be fixed a little.

I have zero issues with house decoration. The bookshelf does what it should. The weapon rack holds a couple of my (what I consider to be) collectible swords. And the containers don't respawn. So I'm good.

edited to clean up the mockery and sarcasm I had going on.

Ah, indeed. Thank you, sir.

If you use weapon racks, mannequins, etc (with an inventory menu), you shouldn't have any issues because the items displayed on those won't have any physics properties. As soon you just (litterally) drop them somewhere in the house, these bugs can occur.

I think the introduction of weapon racks, bookshelves and mannequins are Bethesda's solution to this problem. You can still display all your pretty stuff without fooling around for an hour to get that two handed sword in the right angle...

The problem arises when you try to manually place an item, no matter where you put it (on a table, on a shelf, on your bed) it always ends up on the floor.

Is this always the case? It seems that this system is very inconsistent.
