My house getting messed up while I am gone

Post » Fri Dec 09, 2011 4:45 am

I notice that whenever I hand place items all throughout my house, once I come back, they are all over the place. They will be on the floor, in totally separate rooms, just generally all over the place. I actually lost my Ring of Hircine because it was on a dresser and when I came back, it was just outright gone(likely knocked somewhere).
Anyway, I love decorating my house and this is driving me insane. What is causing this? I never had this issue in prior TES games or Fallout 3. Is it because of the housecarls? Should I take them out and leave them in a cave somewhere?

Greybeards. Fus Ro Dah. Partying at night in your house.

No seriously, it's a bug/glitch. You aren't the only one.

Indeed it is very frustrating. It's also ridiculously annoying to try to arrange items with a controller. I don't know how it is on PC though. Sadly, I doubt this bug will get much attention. :cryvaultboy:

I've found that after you put the item back again it genreally stays where it is. Still frustrating as hell though, either carefully a whole bunch of stuff go out, come back in and put them back or go out come back put back after each item.
I was gonna move house from whiterun to solitude as breezehome is jamm packed with stuff on display and i wanna take it all with me but i don't think my sanity could take it.

Its a big problem in everyone's game and there has been a thread near enough everyday about this issue on the forum since players got their hands on the game.

Its down to the dodgy physics and it needs attention asp and if developers know about it, I think they would agree. Hopefully something will be done about it in an upcoming patch.

There's a problem when you realise that your house in Riften is cleaner than the house your computer is in ^.^

Yes sadly I experienced the same problem, sold/gave away all the rubbish plates and bowls ect getting my house in Whiterun ready for all my goods to show my friends who have not currently got Skyrim to try and make them jealous lol, spent ages rearranging everything only to go out then come back after another quest had been completed and the place looked liked it had been ransacked, luckly I didn't actually loose any weapons/armour but did discover another bug.....

The notes you carry, I recommend not placing them in the bookcases/bookshelves or when you come to take them and read them again all or nearly all of the text simply disappears. Not sure if this bug effects all the houses or just the one in Whiterun. Ok placing the books there well it was when I did it but not the notes. I lmanaged to gain at least one note back after I killed a second assassin the Dark Brotherhood sent after me, I dropped the damage note in the river and placed the new note in one of the end tables in the bedroom and was still there upon my return. I say lucky but is it really lucky to have the Dark Brotherhood after you, I can't think for the life of me why or who ordered the contract, worse I had done was to kill the smithy dude in Riverwood well he sent some thugs after me who i met and killed on my way back down the mountain after seeing the Greybeards, the note on one of their bodies said the smithy ordered for me *to be taught a lesson for stealing off him* so I did the only thing any decent Skyrim player would do and that was to cut his head off with my 2 handed sword... didn't know his daughter was watching though as she was stood behind my character..... maybe I should marry her mum and live the life of a smithy, Surely i can do more than just sharpen axes rofl

Due to Physics, I stopped decorating my houses with Oblivion.

I am sure this will get addressed, because it got better in Fallout/New Vegas. They seemed to take a step back in this game, but it just needs a tweak to the Physics settings for those cells.

I had the same problem. I normally don't decorate at all other then to put away books on the shelves. But with a fully decorated house in Solitude, there are plenty of food on the table and they just progressively drop off the table every time I return home. Its just messy and I don't want clean the table up because I don't want it to be empty =(

I don't know but it might be something with placing items close to walls. I've also experienced it, but only with items close to walls, that would shake a little when I put them down.
