House in Markarth

Post » Thu Dec 01, 2011 5:06 pm

Ive done a quest for the Jarl, and have done 3 or 4 bounties for the Steward but he just keeps giving me more bounties and no new dialogue appears for the Jarl, how do you purchase the house?

I think he gives you two quests, but the second one requires you to be a certain level. This quest is the one that involves getting the shield.

Hope this helps (dunno on info for the level req):

It takes a bit to earn his trust, and you won't get the quests back to back. I had to wait close to a week to get the last bounty quest. So be patient with it. Talking about Markarth here. I have all the homes but the one in Solitude so far, and I definitely like Markarth better than any others. The only thing that would be nicer is maybe another mannequin or two, and a little bit more lighting. It is really dim in there. I can definitely see Vlindrel Hall as being the stock player house that people mod more than any of the others. Since it is in a mountain side, there is a ton of space to expand it.

Spoiler
You get the first quest from the steward, and then a series of bounties that you need to complete. He takes awhile to give them to you though, I had to wait 2-3 days between bounty assignments, and I think I did 3. Then you get the quest to go get the Jarl's shield. He will then tell you that you can buy the house, before making you thane.

I am currently trying to earn his trust; I just get side tracked easily in this game. Level 28; haven't seen a dragon and haven't completed a single guild...heh

oh ok you have to be level 20. But for the second part where you have to help 5 people in town what if you have already helped a couple before you get the quest do they count towards the 5?

Helping 5 people to become a Thane of the city. Being able to purchase the house is before that.

I had a lot of problems with being able to buy the house. I did all the quests including 6 random bounty quests. But I was level 15. Someone on the forum told me that I needed to be level 20 and I grinded my level to 20 and there it was, the quest to get Jarl's shield.

Yes, I believe so.

That hidden level 20 requirement is confusing a lot of people.

By the way, I find the house the best of all. Its layout is simple and it is big. Nice lightning with stone walls also.

No, I got the house without even starting the MQ or anything Civil War related. To get it, you need to be level 20, do "The Forsworn Conspiracy" and the "Sybil of Dibella" quest by sneaking into the basemant of the temple of dibella and getting caught by the priests. You then need to do some quests for the jarl until he gives you the shield quest. There he will allow you to buy a house and become a thane if you buy the house and help 5 people.

Love being Thane anyway...

"Hey, you murdered that woman!" "
Yes, but I am Thane"
"Oh, okay, that's alright then"

I finished the forsworn conspiracy, I'm level 30, but the Steward doesn't talk to me. I did one bounty quest, given by the guy at Silver-Blood Inn, but he doesn't give me any other dialogue options. :c

You have to be a Thane of the city you want to buy the house in as well as doing the quests.

I bought it, and I'm level 19. I did Foresworn Conspiracy, a ton of bounties, the quest from Cacelmo, any little "fetch" quests from citizens I could find, and advanced the Stormcloaks Civil War to the part where they have control of Markarth. And then it became available. Never got the quest to recover the shield though -- that must have a level 20 requirement. Never did the Dibella quest either.

I did the shield and Dibella quest and the Jarl offered me to be a Thane and the Steward now can sell me the house! I needed to do more quests for them.

Thank you guys!!!!
