[Early WIPz] House Redoran Expanded

Post » Sat Mar 19, 2011 6:45 pm

Had a look through some http://www.heraldryclipart.com/mottoes.html:
For the honour of our ancestors
Honour through virtue
Faith, king, duty (maybe Faith, house, duty)
Faith for duty

Heh, like the Zephani one: "I have seen most miserable things." An ancestor of Marvin, maybe? "Life, don't talk to me about life."

Update:

Just started work on re-doing Indarys Manor. Looking pretty good so far, i deleted everything in the foyer and im completely re-doing it, now it seems more welcoming instead of just being a table, some books and a few urns its now some nice tapestries and rugs with two large planters full of plants and flowers.

Just to show I'm making progress on the quests, here's a new screenshot:

As you can see, I've been working on a quest to attract new members to House Redoran. It's largely done, but I still need to write the text for an in-game recruitment poster - 'House Redoran Needs You', that sort of thing. Any budding propagandists out there willing to help? ;)

Just a quick note; Bolvyn Venim, while definitely a bastard, is generally considered a pretty damn great leader among the Redoran. He was the one who secured Redoran's holdings on Vvardenfell, after all. Point being; bad reputation or not, Redoran would be even worse off than it is now without him, so having the members talk about his leadership as if it was a burden to the house as a whole may be a bit odd. Of course, Miner may just be saying that because he personally disliked Venim, so it's not like it doesn't work at all.

As for a slogan...One of the family mottos Dragon32 posted would probably be suitable.

I think the word should be 'was' rather than 'is'. Yes, he's respected for what he's done in the past, but let's face it: what happens in the vanilla Redoran questline is basically a political coup, with the other Councillors banding together to force Venim out of his position. I think the fact that they'd even consider replacing him with a random outlander indicates that they're pretty fed up of him by this point (even if they weren't willing to say so openly before his death).

Regarding the posters, it's not just a slogan I need but a whole block of text (since it's not really practical to use an image instead). I'm sure I'll come up with some eventually, but it's not something I'm especially good at.

Even though Venim was a great leader he was a royal pain to all of the other council members and ruled the Redoran with an Iron fist. The council members along with a great number of the citizens would probably like to have someone who was less "Hitler-ish" but still had the leadership capabilities, a.k.a the new Archmaster (The player).

He's usually described as a natural leader though, and the situation in Vvardenfell at the time *did* demand a strong leader. The councillors were probably fed up with him, yes, but that doesn't necessarily mean that his leadership abilities decreased in the 13 or so years from Vvardenfell opening for Great House settlements until today. The dialogue works as long as it is his political enemies talking though, I guess.

I'll see what I can do, but it will have to wait until later today.

I always got the impression that Aryon/Athyn Sarethi/Crassius Curio just set up an ignorant but powerful outlander in a position of power in their respective great houses so they would have a good puppet to rule their house through, but that's just my opinion. *shrugs*

However strong a leader he may have been in the past, it's pretty clear that by this point he's become more of a liability than an asset to the House. Being obstinate and ruthless can be good in times of crisis, but it can easily backfire if you turn it on your own people. Just look at all the quests that involve defending Venim's reputation against 'slanders' by other Houses (most of which are probably true) - not to mention his habit of sleeping with other Councillors' wives, and attempting to blackmail or even murder his political rivals. Even Athyn Sarethi describes him as 'tyrannical and unjust', and he's the one who praised Venim's leadership ability in the first place.

That might be true in Sarethi's case (though if he admires Venim's leadership so much, why does he want to rule in the first place?), but it doesn't explain why the others fall in with the plan. If you think about it, they're taking an enormous political risk by supporting the player's bid to unseat Venim. Just imagine if the player hadn't won the duel to the death...

@asapp: I like the new Indarys Manor interior, but what about the people who use other IM expansions? Should we perhaps make an alternative esp that doesn't include the IM changes?

Ah, good point. I'm afraid it's been a while since I did the Redoran quests, so I forgot about most of those quests and what they entailed.

Figured I'd give it a try now. Do with it what you want.

HONOUR THROUGH VIRTUE
A true warrior fights not for the glory of battle,
but walks the paths of duty and faith. Forever
walking a virtuous path, the true warrior embraces
war only for the sake of peace. But a warrior cannot
walk this path alone, without house, clan and family,
the virtue of duty will forever elude him. Join the ranks
of GREAT HOUSE REDORAN
And walk down the road of the true warrior alongside
clan, under the watchful gaze of ALMSIVI.

Not exactly a shining example of the perfect 'propaganda poster', but oh well.

Hey, I like it :P I'll probably use that wording, perhaps with a few small modifications. Thanks, Xeth-Ban!

No problem, glad you liked it!

So, do you guys still need any help with interiors/exteriors? I don't have time to fully dedicate myself to the project, but I'd be happy to put together an interior or three if there is a need for it.

I'm not sure. You could try asking Asapp over at the http://redoranexpanded.motionforum.net/index.htm.

Yeah that would be a good idea, however in an act of utter stupidity I already saved it on the DoHR.esp, so, it will be a while before I can work around things and make a separate esp. I'll try to work on it some this weekend and see what I can do, dont know how much time I'll get in though since I just got Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood yesterday and its been occupying all of my spare time so far :P

Couldn't you just use TESAME to delete the changes to Indarys Manor, and save the 'cleaned' mod as a new esp? Then re-load the original mod, delete all the changes except the ones to Indarys Manor, and save that as a new esp?

And yeah, I know what you mean about other games. I've been a bit 'distracted' with other stuff recently as well ;)

Ok I've come to the conclusion that we need someone skilled in a 3D modeling program and nifskope. Even though I know how to use them, through trial and error I found out that my skills at making buildings are non-existant :P I can make almost anything.....except buildings.

So if you have some spare time head over to the http://redoranexpanded.motionforum.net/index.htm and post in the thread in General Discussion. I only really need one building done so im not asking for a full time commitment to the mod, just a little help.

-Thanks! :)

There're couple of Redoran-style buildings ( a "church" and a hut) on Morrowind Modding History. They're by Wizthis but never got a wide release. They might help here.
