I don't think you quite know who the Brotherhood is. If you've only played Fallout 3, you might think the BoS are all white knights, which is simply not true. The Brotherhood in California is notorius for taking tech for themselves to 'prevent another apocalypse' yet bizarrely enough they use this very same tech to wreak destruction on those they deem it's enemies. The Brotherhood would NEVER ally with House because simply put, he has better technology than the Brotherhood that they could only DREAM of owning. The Brotherhood DOESNT share, they never have. Perhaps during Fallout if you do a certian ending, but in general, the Brotherhood likes to use weapons technology on others, while never saving Pre-War autodocs, prosthetics, and other helpful to humanity technology, they only gather and preserve the weapons technology.

House is selfish, no doubt about it, and if you think about it virtually everyone in the Fallout Universe is selfish. If you're going to complain about someone being selfish then complain about the NCR.

If it was the Eastern Brotherhood of Steel, Not only would House gladly let them in with open arms, but Followers of the Apocalypse, Freeside and Westside as well. people think at first in the first Fallout that the Brotherhood is 'awesome' until you noticed that they never give a crap about anyone else, just themselves. The real question about House is this: can he actually do what he thinks he can do?

If he can, then he's the best option, despite what you are forced to do to the Brotherhood (distasteful as I find it). Greatest good, greatest number.

If he cannot, then best to bump him off and either take control yourself or support the NCR.

House is selfish, but that's okay since as we saw with NCR trying to help everyone everywhere at the same time when taxing them and letting them killed by bandits is a bad idea.
When House provides the Courier with life support systems he uses (he makes the promise), the Courier can just oust him and take over Vegas once s/he is able and experienced enough to bring civilization to the masses. Unless of course House allows Courier to do it anyway.
