Houses?

Post » Wed Nov 17, 2010 6:09 am

I play on the 360, and I loved how you could purchase houses in Oblivion and use them to stock your adventures' loot. However I wanted more customization. Like in some of the Mods. What do you guys think?

Being a pack rat having a place to store all my loot is essential; so yes, houses FTW. I would like more customization to be added (changing colors, able to choose whether a bookshelf or wardrobe/etc. goes here or there) but really I'd just like a place to store and display my loot. c:

Houses would be great, and more customization is always welcome. Being able to hire guards and servants or build a balcony would be nice. Faction strongholds such as those in Morrowind (but hopefully expanded) would also be great.

i am torn... i did love the Oblivion DLC that gave you large sprawling mansions like the Mages Tower, Battlehorn Castle, Vile Lair, etc... as well as the additional loot they provided. I think they are an excellent way of role playing for your character by giving him/her a sort of home base that fits that character. That being said, i think it would be far more interesting to unlock them via sidequests, as rewards for guild quests, or through in game monetary transactions instead of simply providing them as a strictly DLC scenario.

I want to see houses in Skyrim, i just want to have to work for them instead of having them be DLC content, it kind of takes the whole reward aspect out of it

Sure thing!
Houses have been in the series since Daggerfall (Though it would have been nice to get homes without joining the three Houses in Morrowind), so I don't see how they could remove this.

Afterall, they always said that we get to "live" in their world.

I play on 360 so houses with more customization for sure! I want to be able to actually have all the books I've found in the game placed on my bookshelves correctly. All lined up and set how I want them. Instead of praying I don't screw up and somehow knock all of them down using the grab button due to floaty shelf physics.

Houses with more customisation.
I remember this was brought up on the Oblivion forums about a month ago, and someone came up with a good idea (well i thought it was anyway), once you purchase the furniture, you go to a floor plan of your home and get to arrange your furniture easily.

Houses with more customization of course. I liked the housing in Oblivion, especially the one involved in the Anvil Quest; so naturally i would expect even more from Skyrim.

I agree. I think you can do that too with the furniture mod in Morrowind, though. You're only an Oblivioner, right?

Better have houses. Was a plus in oblivion. Though i'm not a HUGE fan of customization. I don't want to play Sims.......

Yup.
I presume the furniture mod allows you to buy your own furniture? If so, thats like Imperial FUrniture, which is like what i want in Skyrim.

Customisation like bookshelves which automaticaly place the books you add.
So that I don't have to spend 3 hours on getting a book right on the shelve. :P

I want to see a return of the lego-set mentality of building construction. In Oblivion, all houses were pre-made, both interior and exterior. The only differences were in furnishings and decor. Morrowind houses were constructed from building block like parts, that could be arranged in a number of ways, both interior and exterior. This allowed them to have a lot of variety in the layout of buildings, and gave modders a lot of freedom to create mansions and such.

Thats what I hated about Oblivion, I could never be a proper academic witha proper, full bookshelf.

Houses? Who needs city housing! Walk into a abandoned fort or cave, murder everything in it, put there corpses in a pile (or MAYBE we ca have a dispose of body option again..) and then set up shop!

And a few traps...

True!, also I want to be able to lock my house with a "need a key to open" option. (or alternation "lock")
That way they can inplement thief-NPC's without us worrying for them to raid our houses.

Or boobytrap the place so you get back from looting and see 4 thieves dead on the ground, covered in bear-claws

Not something I feel is particularly important, but I guess it would be nice. I usually just "forcefully evict" someone anyway, then exercise my squatter's rights ;)

And come back three days later to find all your hard work undone. :D

Anyway, I'd love to see the Real Estate (I can use those words if I wish) handled more realistically, rather than one empty house for sale located in each city and static cities - i.e. the ownership and residents of the houses staying the same even after they die. It won't happen, but I would like it all the same.

And yes, customisation is welcome.

Imperial Furniture mod for Oblivion , is what I want to see in Skyrim. It is perfect (but needs more types of furniture) and you can buy one of those houses in each city, then decorate them yourself. Or use construction set just to add an empty house, then furnish it ingame.

I think that is not so hard to make (if a modder can make it, I am sure developers can make it even better).

I really hope they will add that !

Some form of practical display for any stuff I've hoarded over the course of the game, would really be nice. The physics system in Oblivion meant my stuff had to either be hidden away in generic chests, or piled up in a bit of a random jumble. I miss having shelves covered in alchemical ingredients, tables covered in all manner of weapons, or displays of random items I'd found that just looked nice.

Also, armour dummies and the return of placable (and carryable) lanterns and candles, would be a big plus.
