Houses were lonely places in Oblivion. Will we have any frie

Post » Sun Feb 28, 2010 8:50 pm

I think it could be fun, sitting at my table, surrounded by a pile of books when dear old Martha pops in with a Sweet roll and starts a little convo about the rumor of a treasure stolen from the town leader, which then becomes a quest to find it and such. I think it will/could be very fun. I hope they have this, cause I only have a console, and my PC is not near the best, more close to the worst, actually. So no Mods for me.

Meh, all players want is to "Herp Derp, kill dragonz derp. I lova ma lootz cuz iz all i carez aboUTs. I killz everyonez and has no friendz! I DoNt CaRE FoR RoMAnCez Or friendz or eatinz or buyin houzes cuz I killz dragonz cuz uma dragon-bOne"

In other words, the majority of people are awed by hacks and slases and spells and whatnot. They think all good games are just fighting and leveling up.

My favourite part was where you insinuated that people who enjoy action in their video games are stupid.

I want a real reason to stay in my house.

Maybe a friend is coming by and we heading off to the tavern?

This. I don't spend much time in my house.

Same, but that is only because I felt like there was no real purpose to spending time in my house, other than to level up maybe. I felt the same way about fallout 3 too. Would be nice if they gave you a reason to spend time there.

Do people really feel loneliness when playing a video game? If you're feeling lonely go hang out with people :). I only personally used my places for stashing loot..but it would be kinda cool to have people knock if you're there for long periods of time I suppose. Yeah that might be an improvement. As long as they aren't the adoring fan.. ...unless you have a basemant with shackles..then the adoring fan can come over I suppose lol :P

I would love to see some sort of SIMsish NPC behavior and have the people who like in your village/town/city drop by.

Then play the Sims.

I think it would be impractical. If the guest figures that he/she can just take an artifact when you aren't in the house(or anything similar) it can cause a lot of annoyance. Leave it out, business visits only(like when a guard captain seeks you out) and make them leave once they are done.

I just thought of something, If your a Vamp or something that can't go out during the day, people coming to you could help pass the time. I guess. I still like the idea.

not unless its optional. in nv if you leave ppl in youre 38 suite they steal your food, and that maid in ob is always knocking s**t over.

As far as I know they only did that if you told them to wait through the companion wheel instead of dismissing them. They never took any of my things

Houses were useless in Oblivion apart from storing things. You didn't even need to sleep because waiting gave you health and you could pay 10 gold for a room at an inn or find a free bed. They should make more things to do with houses.

I agree with this, having a house you open some sort of game play element if if just a simple one. In Oblivion I would see farms or wineries, and think it would be cool to own a house that produced things and thereby added to you wealth. I don't want a whole game about running a house, I just want the concept that if you buy a farm it earns you some money. If I own a house next to a mill it makes me more money then a farm. If I own a house with a vineyard & winery I earn even more money. If I enter 'the office' in the house I can see "my books" that show how much I'm earning. Just some basic activities on some properties that show some economic advantages as well.

But houses could do other things too. It would be nice if it were easier to show off items in them. It would be nice if owning a home in at own could increase you status in a town or even makes towns people trust you more, give you better prices, or gossip with you. The opposite could be true as well if you won a house in a town maybe towns people in other towns would trust you less if they don't like that town...and a mission could be about making peace between those two towns.

Owning a home should matter, owning homes in certain places should mean something to NPCs, and owning homes that produce things should be an economic advantageous.

Be cool to have some sort of mead-fest in the local Nord community or hold a civilised dinner with some Bretons or Imperials (and no other uncivilised races, because we're just that racist). But yeah, I don' really care about social interaction in the home. It would be good if the house served some other purpose than to just to store loot and display stuff though... maybe rent it out for a monthly fee? Furnish and resell? A proper system for displaying trophies and spoils other than just dropping in a display case?

There definitely needs to be some houses with good side quests like the one in Anvil or just more simple things like Skingrad... The servant in that house was cool but she/he/it should serve some other purpose than free food...(some sort of sixual relationship?)

I think it would be cool to have in the game. I once Rped a civilian in the imperial city, working out of a shack selling clothe, and it would be cool to have friends stop by every once in a while, maybe offering a quest, even simple ones like, "could you head over to (insert town/city)) and buy some (insert thing they sell there) for me? I would make the trek, but (insert lame excuse" Then it could be as simple as fast traveling there and back, or making the trek yourself(the more fun route)

It has been a long time since I have played Arena and Daggerfall, so I don't remember housing in those games. It seems like starting with Morrowind and the Bloodmoon expansion that the TES designers have been experimenting with player character housing. We saw some in Oblivion, and a little in FO3. I am sure they will do something, and I hope their evolution continues, to include things like mannequins etc. I think most of us want to see in game housing continue to evolve.

Housing is one of the areas where modders shine brightly. Modders can create and deliver much more variety in housing, allowing the player a very broad spectrum of housing concepts from which to choose. One of my favorite sites when playing Oblivion was Oblivion Real Estate. I look forward to seeing what the modders will do for Skyrim.

As "cool" as the modding community is in this regard, I feel it is important, however, for in-game housing to continue to evolve, providing the player with variety and usefulness in application.

Kind of Interesting. I certainly wouldn't mind "Friendly" NPC's stopping over, but the other issue, is that the lodgings in Oblivion were pretty lonely. I wouldn't mind seeing, as sort of the lowest-tier of own-able properties, be residences in boarding(Common) houses. At least then, the up-and-coming adventurer can mingle with the locals, and it creates a cheap storage area for the player who hasn't earned enough wealth to invest in a better property. Two issues solved!

real adventurers dont stay in their houses except to drop off trophies

This, unless I'm playing survival (hardcoe) mode or I want to enjoy the game at a very slow pace.

Janus Hassildor would randomly pop in my Rosethorn Hall in Skingrad for a chat with a fellow Vamp.
